People that love this movie are sick. Why people like to watch cruel movies?

Let's make a movie about torturing kitties and puppies... apparently people love cruel movies so it should be a success. Right?

Well, this movie is not about torturing kitties and puppies but you get the idea of how bad this movie is in those terms. I really don't get it.

I loved the first half of the movie, but after that it all goes down.

I like the performance of all actors, the director was good, music was good, all was good, but the story turns 180° and I hate it after that.

If you think this is like rocky but with a woman instead of a men, you are wrong. I enjoy all Rocky movies, but this movie takes some of rocky ideas and put a twist you could only desire to your worst enemy.

So they make you care about the main character and then play with that in a cruel way.

An Honest Liar (2014)

Great way to learn about Randi's story

I admire Randi since I was a kid because he was passion about the truth, and his effort to expose BS. I always hear about he was a magician, but never got the chance to see him in those days. Gladly, this documentary tell his story from the beginning to the present, so there is a lot of footage of his magician days.

The story sometimes jumps back and forward, but I think in a good way. Overall is told chronologically.

A long story compress in so few minutes. But don't feel like was too short or too long.

Also is great to see people that was involve in all those stories talking about it in the present.

If you are a fan of Randi, for sure you most watch it.

Captain Phillips (2013)

Too long and sometimes boring. Bad acting and awkward dialogue

Some people recommend this film so I take a shot. I was expecting maybe be similar to Cast Away, that I like. But even when both are slow and long movies, Captain Phillips is not near as good.

The story is fairly good and some parts are "just good", but overall I didn't like it. I don't know, is like I don't care. Maybe was the acting or the awkward dialogue between Tom Hanks and the hijackers. Generally I like tom hanks but this time I think he didn't make a good job. Hijackers also feel fake. At least in some parts.

Hard to really feel immerse on the story. And some parts are excessively long that make you think "What I am waiting for?". Mostly on the last 3rd of the movie.

At least there is a happy ending, as the real story.

Quite some people seem to like it anyway, so even when I don't recommend it, I suppose you could still give it a chance and watch it.

Is not terrible. Is just "mah".

Taken 2 (2012)

Not as good as 1st movie, but acceptable if you don't mind the flaws

I read some reviews and many of them have a problem with how Istanbul was not show as the real city. I bet they are right on that criticism, but in my case I was (and still am) ignorant on how the real Turkey is. so that don't bother me. When you don't expect something, you don't get bother for inconsistency with reality. For example, an airline pilot would hate a unrealistic plane movie, when a regular person would not mind.

Back to Taken 2, the action was very good. Is true that in some situations was like "too good to be true". Things like guards not looking to prisoners, so they have a chance to escape. This happens in so many movies. Sometimes we forgive this, some other times we don't. Didn't bother me that much, but might be an issue for you if you expect Taken 2 be as realistic as Taken 1.

Maybe a reason I like it is because I didn't watch Taken 1 before I watch Taken 2. I mean, I watch Taken 2 first, and later I watch Taken 1. For that reason I watch Taken 2 without comparing to the previous movie. Work for me.

If you don't mind the Hollywood surrealism, and the fact that is not as good as the 1st movie, is enjoyable.

Actors great; action great; story great; visual effects great. Realism not so great; a few clichés are there about bad guys vs good guys.

If you plan to watch it, please don't try to compare it to the 1st movie. Also, you might want to leave real world political and cultural situation out of the window. Maybe a little of common sense too.

Worst movie? Incredible that some people say that so often about so many movies. Taken 2 have its flaws, but there are good things too that make the bad things not that bad.

Taken (I) (2008)

I love it. Is everything you could want from an action movie

I watch it 3 times in the past few years, and still enjoy it.

Don't want to spoil anything so I will keep this simple.

I can't complaint on anything, and that is something very good to say about a movie.

The story is very original. The main character is like James bond, but at the same time "the guy next door". Let's say a retired James bond. But unlike James bond movies, Taken is more realistic. Is like all could happen in real life. Maybe a few exceptions, but not a deal breaker.

Even with a good story, the action also by itself is enough to enjoy it. That is why I can watch it many times and still enjoy it, like I watch Die Hard.

You should watch it if you like action movies like Die Hard. My sister don't even like die hard and she like Taken. Maybe because Taken is even better than die hard? More updated? Who knows. But my point is that you might like Taken even if you don't like die hard.

The Transporter (2002)

Is practically "Grand Theft Auto" as a movie

Everything reminds me Grand Theft Auto (GTA) games. Even the main character looks like the character of GTA IV.

Action is great and the story is fairly good. Also reminds me a little to Die Hard, but I find it sometimes too unrealistic. For example, main character fight many times without fire weapons. Works great, but sometimes he is against dozens of bad guys and none of the bad guys seem to have a gun. Especially at the end, gets too ridiculous in this. All those bad guys should have at least a gun. I mean, they look like they get pay for defend the main bad guys. Maybe that is the least I like about the movie. But is not too bad. You might forgive that.

I didn't like the girl actress work. Was not convincing many times, for some reason. Is like sometimes acts very different from what you would expect. Her work was acceptable, but not good.

Overall enjoyable for those who like action movies, but not super.

I don't regret watching it, but I might not watch it again.

I would recommend the movie Taken instead.

Gravity (2013)

Pointless story and sometimes just silly

If you only want good effects, specially on 3D, you will like it.

If you care about story and realism, forget it.

Since was a space movie I was expecting some professionalism. Not necessarily like Apollo 13, but at least a little. Oh boy I was wrong. From beginning you can tell this is going to be bad. I mean, is like I am not watching real astronauts. For example in the beginning you see one of the main characters flying around wasting fuel just doing pointless spins around the ship. Really? Just go around over and over while talking like they are in high school? When they suppose to be doing a serious mission.

Was too obvious from beginning that was going to be another effect parade, and story just was an excuse to show it. They try to put the emotional parts, but for me they fail. Sad parts don't make it a good story.

Maybe what I hate the most was George Clooney character. I don't know if is Clooney fault or writer fault, but that character was just too cocky. Too "not-real-astronaut-like". I don't know how to explain. Is a space clown, but with hero write all over it to try to make you like him.

Surrealism is very common on Hollywood. Sometimes we forgive some of that for the entertainment or for a good story. But this time don't work at all.

Good effects is not enough to make a good movie!

Worst movie? No. Visual effects was nice and at least that part I did enjoy. Gets old after a while, though. That is where the "good" story should get in. It never comes on Gravity.

After a while I counted the minutes to the end.

Summary: pointless, boring, good visual effects, music was good enough.

Troy (2004)

Good war scenes and effects, but story is sad and unpleasant

The least I like about this movie is that there is no good guys. There is only bad guys in both sides. Well, to be honest there is a few people that are not necessarily bad guys, but they are not important on the story or don't end up well.

Was very long movie. Maybe necessary for the magnitude of the story, but since I don't like the story I was counting the minutes after 2 hours.

I don't know how accurate is from the real story, but if is quite accurate, then is a great way to experience that history. If you like that era and that story, you will love it. Is like been there.

But I don't find the story compelling. Very stupid reasons to go to war, and stupid reason for the main character fight a nonsense war.

One side is kinda good, but they do kill "good people" too. There is a bad side but have "good people" too, that are not really good. Is so mix.

You will find yourself hating all sides, and feeling sad for everything that happen. Is what really happen, so I suppose I can't complaint to the writer. But maybe a story that should never be on film, at least not in the movie-like way where you expect be entertain and feel good for watching it.

Although the Trojan horse was a good idea, I don't feel good about it.

Watch Brave Heart instead. Brave Heart is also sad, but the story make more sense and do have positive things about the ending that make you think that watching it worth it. With Troy, you will feel sad, and that is it. Kinda pointless to watch.

Ransom (1996)

Everything was great. Can't say anything bad about it

Great story and well executed. Acting was all I could expect. Action was great too.

I read someone didn't like the happy ending. At least me, I do like happy endings, or at least feel that everything make sense, or have a reason to tell the story. Was satisfactory ending. All I can ask for.

I try to be very strict on movies. Want realism, action with meaning, interesting stories with good execution, good editing, good effects, good acting, etc. On this case I just can't say anything bad about this movie. Maybe a little sad, but you can expect that from a ransom.

If you want drama and action, you should like it. Maybe not the best movie, but very satisfactory to watch. I watch it 3 times, and still plan watch it again in the future.

Face/Off (1997)

Too fake, too long action scenes and too Hollywood

I watch this film because people say was one of the best action films ever. I like Cage and Travolta, and action movies in general, so I give it a shot with open arms.

Sadly to say, I didn't like it. Don't necessarily hate it, but was so hard to buy several things about the story. I can take science fiction and fake things (hollywood style), but this time they go too far. Is like is too obvious they want to tell the story as they want, that they don't care is absurd in so many ways. The story and the way was develop is too fake that lose the charm.

Action was good, although sometimes was too long. At the end I just really get bored saying to my self "no more action, just finish the movie". Strange since I like so much action movies. And effects are cool. But, I don't know. Was like pushing too much in the same things, over and over.

If you only care about action, there are a million movies I could recommend before Face Off, like Commando, Die Hard, Rocky, Lethal weapon, True Lies, etc. These movies I mention not only have great action too, but also have more realistic and interesting stories. At least are more satisfactory to watch.

Face Off one of the best action films? No way. You might like it, but say is one of the best is absurd.

I am not watching this movie again, nor will recommend it to anyone.

Dune (1984)

I didn't read the book, and still don't like the film

Is a very strange film. I like star wars and science fiction in general, but I don't see anything to like about Dune.

Is confusing, but i don't even mind to not know some things that was going on because the story doesn't attract me too much. I still watch it completely, thought.

Watching it was in some parts awkward and even unnecessarily disgusting.

I like the band Toto, but on this movie wasn't good, with a few exceptions in some parts that was just OK.

I suppose the novel is still very good, so stay on the novel and skip the film.

Overall, some people might like the film. But for me, too strange and disgusting.
