Secret History: Hitler of the Andes (2003)
Better than expected
Gives some of the accounts from eyewitnesses who encountered Hitler in South America and others who worked on the investigation. Very creepy reenactments! A modern documentary could explore in more detail, but not bad at all for the time it was released.
Dressed to Kill (1928)
Silent comedy gem
Perhaps a precursor to the crime/comedy films of Billy Wilder, Scorsese and the Coen brothers, 'Dressed to Kill' is a wonderful gem of a comedy dealing with the glorification of gangsters. We are introduced to two of the lead gangsters in a scene where they change into robbers' clothes, hold up a bank and nonchalantly change back into dress clothing during their getaway. The majority of the film then deals with Edmund Lowe's character attempting to lure Mary Astor's character into his circle of crime and own personal affections. His advances are comically deferred by Astor's dodges. Another nice comedy element in the film is the band of roughneck criminals, whom contrast with the suave Lowe.
I was lucky enough to see a great 35mm print accompanied by a live piano score. Afterwards, I was surprised to see the low vote count on IMDb and can only hope this underrated classic will someday be seen by a larger audience.
Who Do You Think You're Fooling? (1994)
Who cares?
Interesting short film. I see the director's point about how Tarantino's story for Reservoir Dogs is similar to City on Fire... but who really cares? Everything these days is a remake or a re-imagining of something that's already been done before. Just watch Swingers; they have a great conversation about the issue in that movie, and they go on to re-enact a scene (fittingly) from Reservoir Dogs.
Other than that, the editing was sort of amateur. It was a cool idea to overlay the audio of one film with the video of the other film, but the timing was sort of bad. There were some parts of the film that went for too long, that could have been trimmed down.
