Mystic River (2003)
I wanted more from the film
With Mystic River there are some great scenes and it has a magnificent look but it lost a lot of the meaning that was in the novel. It is a Hollywood film so it needs to have that broad appeal but I think some of the integrity of the story has been lost along the way.
Ned Kelly (2003)
bad film
Ned aKelly is such an important story to Australians but this movie is awful. It's an Australian story yet it seems like it was set in America. Also Ned was an Australian yet he has an Irish accent...it is the worst film I have seen in a long time
My Brother Jack (2001)
Great story
This was a great story really well told. I read the book years ago. When I saw it was being turned into a mini series I was a bit worried that it wouldn't really work that well. However the harshness of the central character's father is well represented by William McInnes.
Lucía y el sexo (2001)
interesting and capturing
I really enjoyed this Spanish film. I loved the way the writer's life was discovered atfer his disappearance. Although highly visual the film is about the prose. The main actor is so sexy the film steams and is a great escape
The Virgin Suicides (1999)
A weird film
This is such an unsettling film but I love the way the girls are observed by the neighboring boys. They are distant witnesses to a tragedy they dont really understand or predict. It shows Sophia Coppola as a truly great director
The Truman Show (1998)
more relevant now
Compared with when it was first released TTruman Show has more relevance because of the explosion in reality TV shows and the way in which ordinary people become celebrities. It was basically fairly prophetic about the current media
Love Serenade (1996)
Brilliant
I saw it last night on TV. This is probably the best comedy that Australia has made. It's very funny in a subtle type of way that really captures so much of our outback attitudes. The ending is comic because of the surreal image of that fish.
When Harry Met Sally... (1989)
fantastic film
The comedy in this has really lasted over time. I saw it when it first came out and then on TV the other night. It has so much subtle comedy. I was laughing as much as when I first saw it. It's the one film I am going to buy on DVD because you can watch it so many times and it still has the abilty to make you laugh like it's the first time you saw it
