Plan B (2009)
Loved It!
WOW! I loved this gem of a movie. Two alleged "straight" guys discovering some feeling between them might seem like the plot of a good porno film but this is handled with such realism that the audience can't help but feel drawn in.
At first I wondered why there were lingering shots of the buildings' exteriors, but then I started to like the (what I'm guessing anyway) was the symbolism of imprisonment of feelings, coldness, loneliness, austerity.
I also loved the style of leaving in background noise during great moments. Isn't that the way real life is? I want to see this movie again and the actors were excellent! I especially liked Pablo, who has one scene of internal pain that is not forced in any way and is totally believable.
I'm going to watch it again!
Gone, But Not Forgotten (2003)
Guilty Pleasure
I'm glad I watched. The dark haired guy was cute, but the film was just illogically bad at points.
1. Why make a point of twice flipping a switch to activate a FAKE fireplace? We're in the woods. Why isn't it REAL??? 2. If everybody's walking around in AUTUMN jackets and in "a few weeks" the lake will be drained for winter, why would Drew jump in the lake to go swimming??? 3. Drew's brother goes to the lake and finds Drew sitting in it. It's nighttime, fall and the brother has a winter coat on. Yet Drew is sitting in water! Laughably bad is the 5 beer bottles that are floating around him. So did he walk in carrying 6 beers and sit alone in the dark drinking one by one? And the tide kept all of the empties right around him? It was just ludicrous.
4. The doctor says it's not her area (the amnesia). Because it's a psychological amnesia, he would need a psychiatrist. Again, the doctor said it's not her area. And, yet, no explanation is ever given why the guy keeps going to see her.
5. Blurring the license plates? Why? Is the director in the Federal Witness Protection Program? It's a feel good movie I guess. But it tries too hard to throw in "drama."
Brokeback Mountain (2005)
I swear???
What is Ennis saying at the end when he says, "Jack, I swear?" I give this movie a 10 by the way. What a powerhouse. An astonishing film.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a film that showed 2 MASCULINE gay guys. Most of the time, Hollywood portrays gays in a non-threatening to straights way. Look at Will and Grace. What an INSULT. The one time I saw a masculine guy on Will and Grace (Bobby Cannavale, the cop) the writers had to ruin it by having him be so stereotypically gay. There was an episode where he said he was suspended from the force because he stopped to go shopping during a major assignment. WHAT AN OUTRAGE to degrade like that. I just can't watch Will and Grace; it outrages me. Jack is such a caricature. NO gay person is as flaming and nelly as he. And Will is not very masculine.
And Hollywood sells that show as hetero on one level: Will and GRACE. They lack the BALLS to portray Will and BOB.
Brokeback Mountain might change things. It is the first time I've ever seen this. It's never been done before. What a movie!
Let's hope for gay people everywhere that this will signal a change in Hollywood. Enough of the degrading, stereotypical, Step n Fetch it, Amos and Andy like, Will and Grace depictions of gay people.
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN! Hallelujah!
