Jeepers Creepers (2001)
Where is the intelligence behind this film?
Too many generic beers and a bad batch of moonshine chasers might have been all the help required for Victor Salva to write this script, enough courage to prove that is was worth making.
Interesting that a demon requiring 'food' every 20 years is something folks don't know about. Dahhhhhhhhhhhhh dahhh dahh dah DAHHHHHHHHHHHHH....DUMB.
Victor Salva's writing skills are best witnessed in the movie POWDER.
It shocks me he had to stoop very low to scrape this screen-play from the bottom of the barrel - literally.
The dialogue does not equal that of any kid I ever hung around with EVER!!!
By the way - the creature DOES look like FREDDY. Are y'all BLIND? Guess so. Anyway, the only reason I watched this is because of the relief of commercials.
This is teen fodder, lame brain fodder. Guess films are made to test the audiences' sophistication.
I would definitely toss this script in the fire after my intelligence has been insulted after the first 5 pages. Thank goodness it had been burned.
Lost in Translation (2003)
Slow moving but good none the less...
YES, we do know Charlotte is a Yale graduate! She actually tells the character played by Bill Murray in one of the bar scenes.
So, Christopher Mulrooney, who commented on this movie on February 20th of this year, you stand corrected.
This movie portrays real life as it happens and that is good. I don't have a soundtrack playing in the background of my conversations...nor do I hear it in the funny times, sad times...etc. When one does not expect anything out of a movie or life, quintessentially, one will not be often disappointed!
I found this movie interesting. Not entertaining in the respect I perceive most movies. It reminded me of a documentary. The first 1/2 hour I questioned the movie, but like it soon afterward.
Enjoy this movie! For those who are open-minded.
Don't expect it to be the typical movie and you will venture into a world of movie-making extra ordinary!
Ciao!
Braveheart (1995)
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally a movie that is as historically acurate as is possibly could be.
You thought The Passion of the Christ was showing terrible brutality? (it was mostly off camera). The execution of William Wallace was more brutal with those who have a vivid imaginiation.
Having ones internal organs cut out while still alive is more grotesque and hideous than Christ being tortured (off camera) in The Passion of the Christ!
This movie give a good account of the historical facts, including torture. Another movie you should be angry about is Schindler's List...it too was historical factual, but I can't recall it being attacked as being brutal as everyone thought The Passion of the Christ was.
If anyone is in doube how disgusting torture was, one need only to research.
Tombstone (1993)
Great Western, Not Great for Historical Accuracy
I enjoyed this movie very much. The characters were right on, however historically, it is not quite accurate. And that's okay. This movie captures the characters very well historically, but Wyatt did not come to Tomstone with a woman, truth be told.
Hollywood seems to think that keeping things historically correct is not good enough.
For those wanting to watch a good western...This is the one.
Wyatt was a fearless man and Kurt Russell portrays him well.
Doc Holliday was fearless also, and Val Kilmer played one of his best performances in this film.
If you have not seen this film, rent it - you will not be disappointed.
That is...if you ARE a fan of western flicks.
Tea for Two (1950)
Even for a young'un like me....I fancy this movie
Since I was a child old movies made my day when they were on the television....Long before video tape machines. Nothing, in my mind, can replace any old movie. Black & white or Technicolour, they are done with class and taste. Now, anything goes. That is a shame. Enjoy this movie. Especially, the actor who plays Doris' uncle. Can' remember his name just now.
Pillow Talk is another Doris Day film I would suggest. Her acting is so wonderful to watch. I have yet to see her act the same way in any movie I have had the pleasure to see. She is one of a kind. Her smile, her singing: Amazing!
American Outlaws (2001)
Good but NOT accurate
Okay, I admit, Colin is cute. But that is not the ONLY reason why I like this movie. On its own it is good. It is not historically accurate. Jesse did not fight the railway, he was just a bad egg who liked robbing banks. So, watch this movie for the fun of it. If you want to watch it for its historical accuracy....? Well....you won't get it in this movie to extent you want.
The action is good. The lines are good. Didn't think this was a drama and comedy. Sure, some lines were funny though it does not warrant it as being a comedy by any means.
Think I may be the only one whose hormones did not rate this film. LOL. Not sure if it is more a chick flick because of Colin or a guy flick because of the gun action.
Nonetheless, it is a good, entertaining movie.
The Astronaut's Wife (1999)
Well, I Liked This Movie.
This movie is visually and mentally stimulating. One needs only to have a very vivid imagination and the ability to enjoy the multifaceted ability of Johnny Depp, which some comment on him being 'wooden' or 'his worst acting yet' or 'not a bad boy', is a good movie.
I was able to relate, to a degree, to Johnny's character, for I dated a guy who was very much like Commander Spencer Armacost. Additionally, it was very easy then to understand Charlize Theron's character, Jillian Armacost. That is why I liked this movie....I could relate to the two major characters.
A few things left me (and perhaps others) in the dark:
1) The outer space shots did not make much sense. Just a little more information might have helped us understand the alien. It not clear why it (or they) is trying to take over earth. Is it for taking over the earth or the space program or both.
2) Captain Alex Streck, Nick Cassavetes, is also taken over by an alien in space. Though it is not quite understood why he went through such physical trauma and Spencer did not.
3) Joe Morton, who plays Sherman Reese, the NASA Representative, does an okay job playing his character. Again, this movie does not explain, to any degree of satisfaction, what Mr. Reese knows.
4) The character of Nan, Jillian's sister, seems to have no reason for being in the movie. Except a useless filler used in detergents?
5) I found it interesting that an old radio, in the Armacost's apartment was used as the main 'stereo' system.....I could go on abit about the details....but no need to be that picky.
Bravo on the cinematography, to an extent! The best edited scene, in my opinion, is when Spencer kisses Jillian at the company party in New York. They are against a wall..the camera tilts, until we see the characters lying prone and we see them on their bed, at home of course. Very well done. It made me dizzy in the theater.
If you can get into the main characters and put yourself in the right mindset for this movie, it will be an interesting view. But, if you are looking for a BIG SCARE this is not the film. The fear is very subtle.
Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)
A Feel Good Movie
Robin Williams is cast perfectly as is everyone else. The choice of music "Dude Looks Like a Lady" while showing scenes of Daniel living the life of Euphegenia Doubtfire is hilarious!
Robin man is a wonderful actor and comedian....No Doubt - he brings quality to the movies I have seen him in.
A timeless movie...regardless of the continuity problems. It is a movie with very few goofs.
Additionally, Sally Field is awesome in this. I did not think, at first, casting her a Miranda Hillard was a good choice. After seeing the movie the second time through, my opinion changed.
Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001)
Amazing Message for All
I am a daughter of the war....and the message of this movie is simple. "Love does not stop when there is war, nor should it. It is true that we should cherish each innocent, pleasurable moment whenever possible for no one knows when such things cannot be enjoyed."
It is not fair to judge how well or how badly an actor can manage a Greek accent. Try it - then if YOU can manage it as well as Christian Bale then good for you. The acting in this movie has passion, regardless of those who did not have an authentic Greek accent.
This movie is a 10 for me. Many of my family were killed, slaughtered and survived prison camps telling horrid stories. This movie has shown me love can conquer ethnic boarders.
Farinelli (1994)
An amazing introduction to something unknown to me, Castrati singers.
Though unable to comment on Ferinelli's historical accuracy in this film, I was intrigued by the beautiful singing voice. Directly after viewing this movie on television on went my computer to research why Ferinelli's voice sounded so feminine. The history my eyes devoured regarding his life astounded me. How sad that not many 'castrati's' did not survive the castration. Additionally, I realized the movie is indeed not very factual and agree that the sexual content was unnecessary. Nonetheless, it is an enchanting movie despite the fiction entwined with some fact. Very soon I will purchase the soundtrack and hear what other IMDb users are raving about. I look forward to being lost in, mesmerized, and hypnotized by the operatic voice (voices). This film is a must see for anyone in love with opera, and the best music ever to first entertain the human ear.
