Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
i want my money back, the movie has no story
I sat and watched the pirates of the Caribbean thinking I'm going to have fun for 2 hours. Thinking I'm going to see a pirate fairytale, a story! But no. No story. Only nice dress, nice swords, impressive elements, but no plot. NO PLOT. what is wrong with good movie writers in the US? nobody talented? i blame the producer too, he obviously doesn't care about making a "good movie" but a load of impressive scenes with impressive cast but that isn't exactly a movie, that is a SHOW for the eyes only, a cake! When i think how many thousands of dollars this movie cost to make, i get even more furious. People are dying in this world out of poverty and Hollywood makes this kind of no story movies to buy producers a nice home in Miami. But not all audience is a fool, as the producers think...
Lost in Translation (2003)
One peculiar Trial (this is not a movie of course)
This movie ...i cant believe it was nominated for so many awards and actually won the best script at Oscars.
I mean, nothing is great about it except the photography. My opinion of course, but really, it looks like the director-writer is aspiring to be a Tarkovsky or European cinema creator, very surprising from the daughter of a major Hollywood player (Copolla).
It is NOT even a sensual or good character movie, it does NOT have reasons to watch the heroes, it is really NOT good. Coppola's awards and nominations show how much the world wide festivals suck up USA creators and products no matter how good they are. Everyone just want to kiss American bottoms. It is really sad.
If this mediocre realism movie was made by a European or other person, it would not certainly ever ever get this much attention. Because , it is so damn mediocre (and so damn and clear its also a "european film" wannabe)
Held Up (1999)
an American slapstick with a lot of racial and social reference
This movie is a comedy but not for chunk eaters. It tells a typical story of a gang band robbery by a group of Hispanic's in a deserted land store somewhere before the borders with Mexico. At the beginning of the move the Hispanic's kidnap an African-American, some weirdos and the store owner. The local authorities are totally incapable of managing the situation (hostage) and the funny thing is that, when the local sheriff calls for help, help cant find its way to the small deserted village where the story unfolds. This is to show how central governments neglect near border or small cities in USA. Many other examples of USA government, social and racial mockery through the movie, always funny. I didn't like the end. It was so typical that it didn't fit to a movie like this one, a sort of "political" slapstick comedy.
Poirot: Murder in Mesopotamia (2001)
awful mystery drama
Herculis Puaro is, in general, a well established 'hero' we know well from books and movies. This movie or this story don't work and i felt its not Agatha's mistake. The cast isn't good, the actors are over exaggerating and making foolish gestures, the costumes are so clean and tidy that everything (even Arab clothes) look fake and for the serious spectator who thinks twice this movie can be seen as a comedy instead of mystery drama. The actor playing Herculis Puaro is doing a nice job but nothing fantastic. The scenes are, as said before, perfect and looking fake. The story is not very enchanting although a mystery of murder but who cares about the death of a loony and vicious blond 45+ woman in the iraqi desert?! The 'victim' is not likable.
Oggy et les Cafards (1997)
Oggy VS the cockroaches
Don't you hate cockroaches? Don't you feel they can ruin your evening when they get out to terrify you? Oggy feels the same. But Oggy, a modern cat with a pop-freak culture, wants to deal with them in many different ways at every episode of ''Oggy and the Cockroaches". Pleasant humor that is more adult than childish and lots of irony.
The cockroaches are 3 little ''bad boys" with no respect for Oggy or whoever gets into their way. They usually pay for their bad habits, sometimes in a sadistic for them way. They have the chance to revenge and Oggy pays too:( The spectator isn't sympathetic with Oggy or the cockroaches, both characters are messing around with each other, resulting in a non-clear justice.
La libertad (2001)
Interesting beginning, uninteresting ending
"La Libertad" means The Freedom and the story looks like it at the first 20-30 minutes of the movie where in no dialog, only the tiring chores of a young wood chopper and the terrible noises of chopping saw make a nice start for the film lover. The director makes very steady precise movements with the camera resulting into a slow pace. Still, after 30 minutes or so, this ''silent'' ode to ''man in the woods'' becomes a boring documentary about how wooden logs are chopped and carried to wood buyers due to dialog starting and ..it isn't interesting. Watch the first half (all of the movie) if you like man-nature-solitude themes. The director is very good and possibly "La Libertad" is an experiment for him since his is young also. I guess we may watch his ''progress'' in cinemas soon, hopefully.
Shattered Glass (2003)
Hollywood MAKES THIS KIND OF MOVIES TOO
This movie is so unexpected from Hollywood Production. No monsters roaring or bouncing. Based on true story, it tells the hidden truth behind a very successful reporter, Stephen Glass. His so great career extensively seen at the first ''half'' of the movie is totally SHATTERED, hence the title. The script is vibrant with interesting conversations between reporters and editors with an in depth view of the reporter's job. In short: watch it, to discover that cinema can be as interesting as anything else having image tricks. The actors are excellent, the script is thrilling (especially for those who like psychology and the media business) and an opportunity to discover how editorial teams in magazines work.
