The Burning Plain (2008)

Arriaga Never Disappoints Me

I was so happy to find out that this film was written by Guillermo Arriaga. Because his previous films which were written by himself had good moral messages. The storyline was also unique. He always shows the story in bits and pieces until the connections between them emerges. The bonds between the characters are shown slowly makes it so mysterious. And there are definitely sadistic scenes that made me cringe in horror. This time the sadistic scene involved slinging a dove and then simply breaking its head without the slightest feeling of mercy.

The difference is now he didn't collaborate with director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarittu anymore. This film is his debut as a director. Based on the information on Wikipedia, this film gets a low rating. I think it might be the problem with the execution. At first it had the aura of the previous films, but in the middle of the conflict it became less strong. And you could say the ending was too quiet, but not impressive (There's a film ending that is quiet but still captivates the audience, right?) As for me, I didn't mind about the execution and how it ended. This film was still good and I enjoyed watching it until the end. Especially because Jennifer Lawrence was in it and her acting was great.

A Very Heartbreaking Film

Jennifer Lawrence is awesome!!! I cried so hard when she lay on the bathtub waiting for her unreliable mom to hug her, but she never got it. This movie is really heartbreaking.

Cerita kenapa mereka bisa berakhir di sana begitu tipikal, tapi tetep aja bikin aku geleng-geleng kepala miris. Gimana enggak? Penyebab utamanya adalah kepala keluarga mereka sendiri. Orang yang seharusnya menjadi benteng pertama perlindungan mereka berempat justru tega menyiksa dan mengata-ngatai dengan kasar hampir setiap hari. Dan kamu tahu? Yang lebih mengejutkan lagi adalah bahwa dia adalah seorang pendeta! Yup, kamu nggak salah baca. Ayah dan juga suami itu adalah seorang pendeta!

Jennifer Lawrence's First Movie

I don't know why I gave this film 10 stars when it was not so amazing. It's been ages ago, I guess. But let me stay to my first feeling when I watched this movie. This is Jennifer Lawrence's first movie and she was awesome. Only showed up a little, but still, It was so memorable. Maybe that was the reason I enjoyed the film, besides the fact that this film was actually enjoyable although not so special. I could see the life in Hollywood and it was tough. The main character really reminded me of Avril Lavigne. She was so cute. I wonder where she was now? Oh, I just remembered that I liked the connections between the characters shown in the end.

Allen's Film Never Fails to Entertain Me

Lagi-lagi film besutan Woody Allen bikin aku jatuh cinta Apalagi musik pembukanya musik klasik Swan Lake yg berkesan lucu karena ini emang film komedi tapi tetep punya jalan cerita yang serius.

Gaya Woody selalu sama di setiap filmnya, tapi di sini dia lucu abis! Aku suka banget. Apalagi kalo inget cara dia ngomong "From the bottom of my heart... Blablabla" Hihi. And that mnemonic thing. So funny

Scarlett juga oke, cuman ada di beberapa scene yang aktingnya agak kurang. Ceritanya dia jadi mahasiswi lulusan jurnalisme bernama Sondra yang mendadak didatangi hantu bernama Joe Strombel (dulunya reporter ternama) dan dibisiki soal kasus Tarot Cards Serial Killer yang sampai detik itu masih diselidiki pihak kepolisian. Maka jadilah dia sama Sidney menyamar sebagai anak dan ayah demi mendekati Peter yang diduga sebagai sosok serial killer tersebut. Pokoknya seru deh petualangan mereka berdua.

Aku selalu suka sama film-film karya Woody Allen, termasuk yang satu ini. Sumpah, keren abizzzz!!! Ceritanya keren dan akting semuanya mempesona. Tambah ngefans sama Woody Allen.

Berawal dari pria miskin yang berhasil masuk ke lingkungan orang kaya, lalu menikah sama anak ceweknya, tapi dia selingkuh sama mantan calon kakak iparnya yang cantik dan seksi bernama Nola, yang diperanin sama Scarlett Johansson. Perselingkuhan ini berakhir tragis karena Nola akhirnya hamil. Sedangkan Chris, si pria itu, nggak mau kehilangan fasilitas yang selama ini ia peroleh semenjak jadi menantu orang kaya. Memang ini seperti film yang menggambarkan akhir getir sebuah perselingkuhan. Tapi bukan itu sih intinya. The point is how important it is to be lucky in your life. Karena faktor keberuntungan ini, si cowok terbebas dari tuduhan pembunuhan dua orang sekaligus!!! Ck ck ck. Dan itu berarti dia tetap bisa menikmati apa yang sudah ia raih.

Iya, sih. Orang boleh kaya, pinter, terkenal dan sebagainya yang bagus-bagus. Tapi kalau nggak lucky, semuanya percuma aja, kan. Tapi ya teteplah harus bekerja keras. "That's mandatory" seperti yang dibilang Chris di film ini. So I wanna be one of those lucky people. Have a nice day everyone and good luck.

I Don't Think Ewan and Scarlett Brought Out Good Chemistry Here

Awalnya aku nggak ngerti jalan cerita film ini. Cuman tau ini genrenya sci-fi (pantes gak langsung connect hehe). Tapi lama-lama bisa ngikutin sih. Dan lumayan seru juga. Effectnya keren, apalagi kalo nonton di bioskop. Cuman yang kurang itu kecocokan antara Scarlett sama Ewan. Akting mereka bagus, but somehow their faces don't match for each other.

Jadi ceritanya mereka ini adalah produk sebuah proyek ilmiah yang disponsori oleh orang berduit yg pengen hidup lebih lama lagi di dunia (ngapain sih pada mau umur panjang??? Bukannya hidup itu penuh penderitaan???) Yup! Mereka adalah kloningan para orang berduit tsb. Malah presiden pun ikutan proyek ini hehe (btw yg jadi presiden kekurusan). Tapi karena ada "malfunction", satu kloningan itu gak sepenuhnya terbersihkan memorinya. Jadilah kekacauan di proyek itu. Cuman pas kloningan itu semua terbebaskan, berarti mereka pada ada dua dong??? Gak dijelasin nih soalnya pas bebas langsung udahan.

Amazing Movie Experience

Another movie about magician that amazed me. WoW!!! But first, I couldn't almost recognize Jesse Eisenberg! He's so different and handsome with that hairstyle and a little touch of beard and mustache. Also, Michael Caine is here again and he reminded me of The Prestige.

Slow Pace but Great Movie

The ending was just shocking. Nice plot twist despite its slowness. But it's okay because I kept awake until the end. And it was a rather shocking as well to see how brave Shailene to take those naked scenes. It was just my perfect Saturday night movie selection.

I enjoyed this remake

Sometimes it's easier to understand a story through a movie than a book, and this one is among others. Anyhow, I don't remember ever read about Margaret pricking her thigh or something until it's bleeding and I didn't know for what reason. Of course, I don't want to waste my time trying to find it out in the book, though. So, maybe she did it to ease the anger inside her while talking with another mom.

The blood's falling down from the top was the best part for me. And I think this is the first time I adore Julianne Moore's acting and expression.

Nice movie about sisterhood

I like both the book and the movie. But for the part where Maggie tries to overcome her dyslexia, I love the movie version more. It was just so moving when she and a retired professor spend enough time together in a retirement community. She agrees to read him poems when she knows that he's blind. And in return, he gradually helps her deal with dyslexia.

Not so thrilling

Well, it's not as thrilling as the book. I don't really like the idea that Roark appeared a lil' too early. But i totally agree about Max the dog didn't die in the burning house, unlike the book. Thank God.

I love Jack's last speech so much. And guess what. I'm right about imagining Matthew to play Jack and Donald to play Lucien.

So Funny

At first I didn't really find it funny because I've watched Miss Congeniality 2, which is basically similar in both characters and conflict. Sandra Bullock's in it, too. But then it has its own jokes and they are ridiculously funny. Couldn't stop laughing that two hours feels so short.

I didn't feel sad when I read the book. To me it's so funny, instead. But watching the movie got me so emotional almost in every scene, yet no tears. I wonder if something wrong with my brain and my imagination I like the cast of Hazel, Augustus and Isaac, a little disagree with the cast of Hazel's parents and Peter Van Houten. And I think 2h 13m is way too long for a teenage drama movie.

The Railway Man (2013)

A great movie about forgiveness

Watching this movie makes me wonder how many people have been "murdered" in the constructions of the railways in Indonesia. I believe all the railways have been there for decades or even for century? And I came to think that many Indonesians during the Japanese and the Dutch colonialism endured the identical suffering as I've seen in this movie. It's so harrowing, those Japanese... The way they treated those prisoners of war was ruthless. Unbelievable!!! What were they thinking???

What I like the most about this movie is that it is based on a real story of Eric Lomax, a very gentleman and so full of forgiveness. I cried watching how he finally befriends with Nagasa, the Japanese who had tortured him brutally.

Black Swan (2010)

Great film!

Never get enough of this movie. So here I am watching it again for I don't know how many times. This is the second movie of Natalie Portman after Anywhere But Here which I adore eminently.

It's a very dark movie to me. Just love the psychological element here. But it has a funny moment too, when Nina started to touch herself and then suddenly realized that her mom was there in the corner and... Luckily she was sleeping.

Pretty boring

I fell asleep every time I tried to watch this movie. That's why I need 3 days to finish it, lol. It's about politics, especially about the job of campaign team. They do almost everything to win, including making (broken) promises of course. I don't really understand about the ending. So I checked Wiki, and I guess I can follow it a little. Evan Rachel Wood is disappointing here to me.

Not enough to scare me so much

It's not as creepy as I thought it would be. I even fell asleep during the exorcism. Sorry. It's just an average story I can find in many other horror movies. Even that Nazi thing just didn't help. But I got a little goosebump when Romy got possessed, and also the sound is good.

I'm not a big fan of horror movie, but I kinda tired seeing movie with an evil child in it. Except it's really really scary like The Ring or The Omen itself, which I think inspired this movie for its evil child part.

Just okay to me

The first scene until David's stuff got robbed and when Rose performed her striptease to fool Pablo is totally funny. But after that... It was funny, and then it wasn't. It was funny, and then it was too much. Always like that during the 2 hours of the show. I don't know why I seem so hard to be entertained lately. Haha. Maybe it's just my mood. And somehow, this movie reminds me of Just Go With It where Jennifer Aniston's in it, too. Basically, it has the same conflict. But I remember I laughed a lot more in this movie. I really hate the biting spider part. So gross!!! And I wonder why they even have a gut to screen it. Yeah, I know... It's Hollywood, America.

OMG!!! I just love and adore this movie so much! I'm willing to watch it more than once. I love the story, the cast, the sound, the cinematography. Everything! There's nothing I regret for picking this movie last night. It was so great!!!

That lobby boy is so funny, his face. No words out of his mouth, still I laughed out loud. And Ralph Fiennes just kills it. Hands up for the make-up artist too for making Tilda looks so old, lonely, and ugly hahaha. I still wonder if this hotel and the painting and the people in it are truly exist. And also the book.

Song of the Sea (2014)

Beautiful Animation

This animated movie is so so so beautiful. I really love the animation. Looks so different from any other cartoon movie. But sometimes it's a lil' hard to get the drawings. Only sometimes, especially when there are so many objects on the screen that made it looked complicated. I also love the music. So soft in my ears.

It's an Irish classic (where I finally learned how to pronounce "Saoirse" in the right way haha). The story itself reminds me of the legend of Danau Toba or The Mermaid. Well, it's different actually. Only a few parts of the story and the character that looks similar. The saddest part is when Ben had to part with his dog, Cu.

The Truman Show (1998)

The best reality show ever!

This movie might be the trigger of all reality shows in television industry. Yeah, who knows? Only this one is the realest reality show ever. No script and no drama. But surely I don't wanna live like this. It's like being betrayed, right?

Watching this movie made me think how God rules this world and the humans. How God tries to "control" Truman's life and finally gives up to his persistent will, which finally leads to the change of his destiny. Isn't it interesting? It's just like being given the primary secret on how to get what you really want. Great!!! I hope I can practice it in my life.

Still Alice (2014)

I like Julianne Moore even more here

It's not as sad as any other movie about disease, such as Black or A Walk To Remember, where I cried like a flooded river. Still it's gloomy and I began to like Julianne Moore even more here.

The best scenes for me was when Alice looks for a toilet but forgot where it is so she pees in her pants and got hysterical and when she got lost in her own campus. So depressing.

I always love watching movies based on true story, and this one's my favorite too. What a character Keane is (feel bad that one of the bands I love got the same name with this slick swindler). But I believe everything happens for a reason. So, if Margaret were never met Walter Keane, those Big Eyes would never reach its popularity in a split moment, right?

Oh, despite its true events, it's really absurd to me when Keane decided to defend himself during the trial in Hawaii. Is this really really really happening then??? Gosh, what a stubborn person he is. Get lost!

Get Smart (2008)

Not Really My Fave

The comedy is too light for me? Or heavy? I don't know. I fell asleep too much and I didn't regret it. This movie also reminded me of Johnny English or The Tuxedo. I mean, the concept. Two agents, man and woman, have to become a partner. However, I like the part when Agent 99 had to pass the laser trap and she did it exactly like in striptease moves. But when Max tried to copy her, a very big mouse suddenly came out of his tux. Haha, got me lol.

Shine On with Reese (2018– )

A Great Show

I always love and adore Reese Witherspoon and I'm so glad that this show of hers was so good to watch! I really enjoyed all the talk she had with all the guests. I could see how Reese was so friendly and could easily connect with the guests that made the conversation interesting from start to end. Many inspiring things I got from this song and some facts I've never heard before, like the fact about the song I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton.

My favorite episode was with Dolly Parton and P!nk.
