Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)

Fun!

I loved it! Yes, it is made for the family audiences but it really kept me going for two hours! It is an action filled adventure on the high seas from the times when Britannia ruled the waves. It has it all! Action, pirates, sailors, ghosts and what not, but it really is entertaining! You have no other option but to take your kids to this one, you will not be sorry.

I especially liked Mr. Bardem as Captain Salazar, his acting is a little bit better then the rest but every actor gave hundred percent for this film and it shows!

Since this is my review 400 for IMDb.com I have to take an opportunity to thank staff at the Multiplex Cinema City Sarajevo for being generally kind and professional. Not to forget Meeting Point Cinema as well. I also want to thank IMDb.com staff for letting MOST of my reviews pass.

Criminal (2016)

Average!

Oh, how did he learn to drive on the left side of the road so quickly? Now let me get serious:

Plot: Average at the best! I saw so many action filled films similar to this one that I could not get entertained that much. Yes, it is set in London and that gives a nice touch to the whole thing, but it so unrealistic that I could not get serious about this film. It is an interesting idea to give a convicted felon a life so he can have a house, wife, child and so on, but please give me a break. It is not realistic.

Acting: Acting is good and Mr. Costner really tried to give something so this film would get off the ground but it did not help that much.

If you like action packed films this is one for you but if you do not you can freely skip it.

Tiger Theory (2016)

Freedom!

Is there anyone truly free? This film tackles that question. Jan so desperately wants to escape his present life that he is ready to go to the lunatic asylum just so he can get rid of his past life which makes him so unhappy. Film is full of humor which is so connected to the Czech cinematography. Acting is excellent and I have to say that this film brings the best of Czech film making.

If you are lucky enough to be able to see this film you will not be disappointed. I strongly recommend that you obtain a copy somehow and watch it.

Hippocrates: Diary of a French Doctor (2014)

I liked it!

I have to say that this film was simpa. Plot is set in a hospital in Paris and shows all the horrors which doctors and patients have to live thru. Acting is very good and main characters show truly how life of a doctor in the hospital in France can be hard and complicated. It also shows well suffering of the patients and what their families have to live thru when mistakes are made by the doctors. If you are a fan of the European cinematography and want to see how life in every day France looks like I recommend that you see this film. Otherwise you will not miss too much by not watching it.

Alien: Covenant (2017)

I am truly disappointed!

I had big expectations from this film. I have to say that I am greatly disappointed.

Plot is not interesting, I can not even to compare it to the Prometheus which was far better film then this one.

I was so disappointed that I almost left the movie theater before it ended.

Visual effects are excellent for that is expected of today sci fi films.

Acting of Michael Fassbender is excellent, that is the highlight of this film.

I would like to add some more to my review but I do not want to waste your time. If you are and Alien series fan you should go and see this film, but I warn you you will be disappointed. If you are not that kind of fan you can freely skip this one.

Ghost in the Shell (2017)

I did not like it!

I am sorry but this film did not connect with me. Yes there are good visual effects, and Scarlett Johansson is trying very hard to act well. That is one of the problems about this film, she was trying too hard, and it shows. Other actors, well I can hardly mention their performances since they did not act that well. Visual effects are excellent but they are in the most Hollywood blockbusters so there is not much to say about that it would help this film. I would not recommend this film to my friends. This is as much as I have to say on this film.

The Young Pope (2016)

Out of touch with the reality!

What I am most bothered with this series is that it is detached from the reality of the real Vatican. Modern Vatican does not function like it was portrayed in the series. Modern Vatican under Pope Francis is closer to the people or at least it tries to be.

Scenery and the dialogue and the clothes are fantastic. Nothing to say about that, except that it is not that real for this present times. It is more for the late sixties of the last century or even for some Pope a la Borgia Pope from the middle ages. It just does not make a cut for the present times. Not that I was not amused by it. I had a real feast for my eyes by watching it. I hope they make more seasons of it although I am not sure what new can they show to the people.

All in all I recommend this series, but under condition to remember that it is just a TV series and it does not have touch with the reality of the real Vatican.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

I had to go and see this film!

Well I was seven years old when Episode IV came out. I was sitting next to a seven year old forty plus years later and I felt like I was seven again. I mean that Darth Vader, is he as mean again as he will ever be? I am glad that he was voted as the worse villain of all times, he certainly deserves the Title.

Fighting on the tropical island is particularly a nice touch to an excellent film. I can imagine how much work went into making this one, but I am sure every dollar was worth it.

There is not much more that I can say about this film that it already has not been said. So do not miss it! Go and take your seven years old now that you are forty plus. ;)

La La Land (2016)

I loved it!

Hollywood makes a film about itself from time to time. This is one of these kind of films and I loved it. I am not sure was the La La Land portrayed well in this film, for I never went there. It seems it was not, according to other reviewers but it was not that important. What was important was to make a film about the La La Land so people understand how actually it is difficult to make it there. I think this film makes a good case about all of that.

Dancing and singing not in the rain but on the Californian sunshine is excellent and anyone who wants to see a musical should like this film. It was like watching Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers again in some futuristic remake. So for the sake of relaxation and good mood go and see this film.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Great action film!

If you are into action films this one is definitely for you! Non stop action, excellent visual and special effects makes this film a memorable one! You do not have to love action film to love this one! Everything is great about it, plot is certainly memorable, it is geared towards the younger audiences. Acting is great, both the principal characters and the the other ones are great in their roles.

You have to love this film, if you get involved into the plot and it is interesting to watch all the way.

I simply have to recommend this film for the action loving audiences, but you might just watch it for fun anyways even if you are not an action loving person. It certainly will make your time worthwhile.

The Fault in Our Stars (2014)

Warm film abut illness.

We forget about people struck with illness, and this film came along to remind us about people who are in the midst of it all. I liked this film. Acting is truly excellent, you can feel the chemistry between two principal actors. Plot is interesting, although I am not sure is it realistic, with going to Amsterdam and all, but you have to make interesting film like this for the wider audiences. Otherwise, it would not probably be interesting for them.

I also liked the music.

If you have a sick member in your family this is a film for you, otherwise you could watch it for fun, you might like it like I did.

Jersey Boys (2014)

I did not like this film very much.

I am sorry, but I did not grow up during Jersey Boys. I am of a poor knowledge about this group or how it started. So I did not like this film very much, since it did not bring memories. I am indifferent about the script and editing, I am also indifferent about directing, since I did not like this film very much. I will probably forget it pretty quickly. If you are a music lover or fan of the Jersey Boys this is a film for you, otherwise I could not recommend it to the wider audiences.

Since I did not like it very much, there is nothing further I should add.

Mrs. Miniver (1942)

What an extraordinary piece of war propaganda!

Even if I was involved in the World War II on the side against the UK I would still love this film. Everything about it is uplifting and certainly helped people of the UK feel better after watching it. Especially because it was released in the 1942 when war was certainly not won yet.

Everything about this film is excellent, acting, plot, cinematography. Simply it is just a fantastic piece of propaganda! If you are a student of film making this is a must see for you, but if you are feeling like spending a rainy afternoon with a cup of an English tea in your hand, then you should watch this film. It will make your afternoon worthwhile.

Maps to the Stars (2014)

Nothing really.

I expected more from this film. I got almost nothing. It was like watching B production film. No plot, acting was OK but nothing out of the extraordinary and really nothing to keep me glood to the TV I almost wanted to end it before it ended, but I decided to watch it to the end since I had to write this review.

Do really people live like this in Hollywood or is it just a bad copy of it? I am not an insighter into the Hollywood stars way of life, but it seems to me that it does not portray that way of life well. Or may be it does? Who really cares? It really is not a film I can not recommend. So find something else better to do with your time then to watch this.

Leviathan (2014)

Too slow and too boring!

I am not impressed with this film as other people are. I saw all the reviews including metascore of 92 out of a 100. I really do not think it deserves so much.

Story is timeless, it can happen in many countries all over the world and it will happen in the future as long as there is humanity.

Scenery is magnificent, but that is not so difficult to achieve, all you need is a good camera and camera operator to shoot it all.

Film portrays Russians well, that is exactly how they behave and live. Russia is a corrupt state and has a very aggressive stance. Some Russians still live the Cold War and the CCCP mentality.

Although I had a best intention to recommend this film to the wider audiences I really can not. It is boring and long.

It really shows how far above all other cinematographies Anglo-Saxon cinematographies are, especially the Hollywood and all the cimetaographies revolving around it.

Better Call Saul (2015–2022)

Looks very promising!

After watching season one of this series I have to say it is another promising opening season for a multi-season series. After watching Breaking Bad I wanted to see will the script writers keep up with the freshness and ingenuity of the Breaking Bad. I have to say that we have a promising start. I have to say that Bob Odenkirk is fantastic as a principal actor and that the whole crew really lives up to the expectations. I liked most of the episodes but the pilot sticks to mind from other episodes.

I will recommend this series, it is very entertaining and full of interesting and funny gigs. Watching it is time well spent!

Big Hero 6 (2014)

Children liked it, I did not especially.

Children that watched this film liked it very much, they were glued to the TV all the time projection was going on. They really were into it. They were a little bit slow to follow plot, but who cares! It was the animation and music which attracted the children. Big whit blob! I really tried to pay attention to the film, but since it really did not make any attraction to me I decided to go get some popcorn and soda for the kids. They really enjoyed it. I mean the whole package, movie, popcorn and soda. Other things they did not care much about. That is why there are grown ups like me to take care of the other things. Lucky them! They should enjoy their youth while they can.

Furious 7 (2015)

I did not like this film very much.

Yes there was a lot of action and a lot of crashing cars, trucks, and airplanes. Yes there was a lot of action and shooting and good guys and bad guys, but all in all I can call it just a good action movie. I saw so many of these, similar ones before, that I really can not be impressed very much with repeating action, which increasingly looks the same in all of these expensive action films. Scene, when car is crashing trough three towers is probably the most memorable one. Otherwise, all other scenes looked very much similar to other action films I have seen over the years.

If you are a fan of high speed, lots of crashes and no brainier plot, this is a film for you, otherwise, you might freely skip it.

Winter Sleep (2014)

Did it really manage to end? I thought that this film was never going to end. Yes, I think this film has many qualities. It portrays family relationships so well during peace and quite of winter somewhere in Anatolia. I am sure that these days it is not so peaceful and calm in Anatolia with all these refugees streaming from Sirya and Iraq into Turkey. Turkey does not have such a calmness in it, it is more hectic and wild place then portrayed in this film. After all Istanbul alone has 12 million people.

I really do not think that this film is for a wider audiences. It is more an art film, and way way too long. It is for a narrow audiences who like these types of films.

Stations of the Cross (2014)

I was not that impressed by this film.

When I saw the reviews for this film I expected more then I received. Although nicely imagined, plot did not deliver what I expected. I found it a little bit unrealistic that case like this can be found in a modern day Germany. Of course, like most of European film makers, this film maker concentrated on a case which is more rare and not a regular occurrence. It is an exception in the modern Germany rather then the rule. That is what actually bothered me throughout this film.

Acting was very good short of excellent.

Like any film which deals with religion, this film also enters the realm of fanatic believers. In this case it is the Catholic faith. When will they make film about ISIL so we can see what a true fanaticism truly is?

The Book of Life (2014)

Sweet cartoon!

When I want to make kids happy I show them a cartoon. It was not different this time. However, there were some small kids involved, and they could not follow the plot. This plot was geared towards older children and some adults who can not live without cartoons. I really liked this film. Visual effects and voices borrowed are excellent. I also liked the plot, although it was difficult to pay attention while watching this film since kids were restless.

I also liked the music in the film.

So basically I can call this a sweet little cartoon to be entertained with kids you need to babysit.

If you like cartoons and if you want to entertain some kids for some time, this is a film for you.

Haider (2014)

I would like to say that I liked this film, but...

I really wanted to see this film since it was highly recommended to me. I liked parts of it, other parts I did not. I liked cinematography and acting. But plot was a little bit confusing and film is way, way too long. Kashmir problem is well known to us, it is a problem which is still unresolved and plagues relationships between two nations, India and Pakistan.

There are some nice dances in this film and some nice singing, but for me most of this film was a little bit boring and too long.

If you are interested in India and Pakistan and Kashmir, this is a film for you, otherwise I really can not recommend to the general audience, I simply think it is not geared towards Western audiences.

Diplomacy (2014)

I enjoyed it very much!

I enjoyed this film very much! First of all it is a very interesting recreation of a stage play into a film. Plot is interesting well enough since the subject is of a great interest to the general public, one night in August of 1944 when general in command of Paris had to decide should he follow Hitlers orders and blow up Paris or to surrender without doing it. He made good decision, we should be grateful that he had piece of sanity left not to blindly follow those orders.

Acting is excellent by both principal actors, and other actors as well.

If you are a World War II buff this is a must see for you, but I strongly recommend that you see this film anyways, because it is just short of a masterpiece.

Whiplash (2014)

Disappointing!

I expected from this film much more then I saw. I think music is not about military discipline and swearing, it is just the opposite. How important is for a drummer to play his drums fast? Not that important. I think this film was made more for the actors and music editors then for the music itself. What a disappointment!

It is also disappointing to see that this film took more Oscars then Boyhood. It is sickening! I really would like to add that I really expected more about this film then it delivered to me.

I am sorry but I would not recommend this film for you to see. It is just so disappointing.

How the War Started on My Island (1996)

Look at the Croatian war of independence with humour...

This film is trying to give a look on the Croatian war of independence from what was then Yugoslavia a look with humor. Although at that time there was no humor in it at all. For us who stayed alive to write these lines, I can vouch to you that it was pure hell which materialized on Earth in the period of 1991-1995.

Plot is base on a true story on the island of Vis, which harbored substantial Yugoslav Navy base which became unwelcome on the island overnight as Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia. Time was September of 1991.

I would like to tell you that I laughed with the film, but because I remember so well horrors of the war I could not laugh. I will leave that to you.
