The Evil Dead (1981)
Embarrassing
Maybe this was scary in the 80's ? But Alien came out in 79 so there's no excuse for how bad the practical effects and masks look here. That scene where his girlfriend is laughing with the clown makeup is so terrible. I guess she was supposed to be looking like a "demon" there ? Idk I don't understand what the fans of this movie like here. Terrible cinematography, cheesy dialogue. One of the worst, most boring films i'v ever seen. I was gonna watch the other movies in the series but if they're anything like this I'll pass. Maybe the new modern remakes are good but this movie was a pain to sit through.
Yip Man 2 (2010)
A Parody
Loved the first IP man, but this one is almost a parody of the first, there is a fight scene with like 40 armed men and it just looks silly, there's another fight scene on top of a table where master ip and another master just punch each other extremely fast and it looks like they're just slapping each other like schoolgirls. The fight scenes are less grounded they just feel less exciting than the first one on top of being more silly. And the worst thing is the movie is NOT subtle at all when it comes to the western boxer and police man which are the antagonists, they are just caricatures of actual human beings and don't act like a normal person. None of the western characters do, I get they wanted to make them bad enough so the audience hates them but they could've been at-least a little subtle.
Kaubôi bibappu: Cowboy Bebop (1998)
Last Episode
Don't really like Anime but this was incredible, a few episodes got boring here and there but overall incredible but, in the last episode, I can't seem to understand why Faye and Jet didn't go and help spike. Especially Faye who really didn't want him to go and was concerned for him, but doesn't think of going with him to help? Why? Jet has injured leg but, he's still walking around and seems perfectly fit to help. It sort of cheapens the ending for me. Other than that, the show has great episodes spanning all sorts of genres like horror, comedy, action, romance and tells it in an incredibly stylized way.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
The pinnacle of HP
Idk about the books but when it comes to the films, I think this is by far the best Harry Potter film. The tone is dark yet still has that magical charm and the cinematography and world building is some of the best in film history.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2011)
What a journey
Finishing the series knowing there's no more films with Harry, Ron and hermoine feels so awful. Feels like you lost a lifelong childhood friend.
Shichinin no samurai (1954)
Great but
I agree with everything that's been said about this film, the acting, cinematography, directing is all phenomenal but where tf are people getting "great action scenes" form? This movie has terrible and downright embarrassing fight scenes. The "samurai" are seen in the end battle aimlessly swinging their swords like children would. The action is probably the worst part about the film. Nothing in the action scenes has a "samurai" feel to it.
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
Great action, but missing the 2014 mythology.
It was great, but the 2014 Godzilla is the best in the Monsterverse. The 2014 had that mystery and mythology vibes that just make it superior to any other film in the Monsterverse.
Godzilla (2014)
One of the best blockbusters
One of the greatest, most well paced blockbusters of all time. All the generic marvel movie lovers complain that "there isn't enough Godzilla" which is what makes his screen time even more impactful and stops this movie from becoming just like any other cgi fest monster movie. Brilliant and easily the best film in the Monsterverse.
Midsommar (2019)
Why
Pretentious trash. I love films like the lighthouse so it's not that I "don't understand" these type of films but outside of production design & cinematography, this was utter trash.
Stranger Things (2016)
Season 3
The first 2 seasons are great but season three is mediocre minus the last episode. Wish the whole season was more like the last episode.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (2016)
Meh
Just a cheap Tomb Raider ripoff with a worse lead character
Tomb Raider (2013)
Best tomb raider
The story, the characters, the atmosphere. It's all perfect. By far the most compelling Tomb Raider game ever and one of the best adventure games.
Extraction (2020)
Horrible script
The dialogue is horrible but that's not a surprise since russo's wrote it. The ending is embarrassingly horrible and the action is average at best. Chris hemsworth is the only thing that's good in the film.
The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)
Tears
Such an underrated film, the only fault is the second act which dragged a lot but the 1st act and the ending are perfection.
The Last Samurai (2003)
Masterpiece
Tom Cruise's best film and Hans Zimmer's score is beautiful
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Beauty and emotion
Everything has already been said about this masterpiece. It's incredible in every aspect of filmmaking and Rodger Deakin's cinematography is just out of this world good. Without a doubt one of the most beautiful films ever made
Marriage Story (2019)
What
Overacting, awkward dialogue and non existent cinematography. The most bland film I have ever seen. Nothing about it works and it shouldn't be getting any acclaim
Inception (2010)
A modern masterpiece
There's so much to say but all you can really say about this piece of art is that Christopher Nolan is a genius.
The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)
Endearing
There's some films where you just love them and you can't explain why, this is one of those. Incredibly well made and well acted. Can't wait for Shia to make more films like these.
Taxi Driver (1976)
Talking to me
One of Scorsese's best. Moody and super atmospheric. Just incredible.
First Man (2018)
Space cinema
Don't know what it is about space films. Interstellar, first man, 2001, they just give filmmakers the chance to tap into such deep emotions while also providing a sense of wonder. Incredible film. Technically and narratively.
The Irishman (2019)
Masterpiece
A melodramatic, Somber and last of its kind tale about the mafia. Unlike other brilliant Mafia/mob films that Scorcesse has made, this was different, instead of showing you the glamorous side of Mobsters, shows you a heartbreaking story about what that lifestyle leads to. With The master behind the camera and talents like De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci blessing the screen, I don't even need to comment on the performance and directing, it's all brilliant.
In the end a man sits in the end, alone, no one by his side during his final days, Thinking about what he did wrong, while Still of the Night plays in the background. Scorsese's presumably last mob film ends in a poetic and sentimental manner and I wouldn't want it in any other manner
Klaus (2019)
Masterpiece
A hand drawn masterpiece. Surprisingly one of the best films of 2019. Every frame is so carefully drawn with such care. Usually these animation projects fall for the same clichés and sob stories. But this was a heartwarming story without needing to rely on the cheap tactics most animated films use. Excellent writing and simply excellent filmmaking. One of the best animated films i'v ever seen, a Christmas Classic. Bravo Netflix
6 Underground (2019)
Meh
I was hoping this would be like a Transformers 1 or 13 hours kind of Michael bay film which I love but it's sadly not. Incoherent, no real characters. But the cast was great however and some action sequences are fun so 🤷♂️.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Decent
I thought it was a well made film, decent twist at the end but it's no where near as much of a "masterpiece" as some fanboys are making it out it be.
