Over the Hedge (2006)
Clever!
Wow, what a wonderful surprise. I have to admit that when I first saw the trailer for this film, it really didn't grab me. Dreamworks obviously has a great animation team, but that doesn't always mean the storyline is going to be interesting enough to amuse me. Well, I certainly stand corrected on this one. The script was quite clever and the characters were unique. My favorite was definitely Hammy. Which was interesting, because to my recollection, the initial trailers seemed to focus on him and that was what kind of turned me off; go figure. The plot was simple enough, but quite cleverly executed, with a lot of great little details. For the first time I found myself more interested in the storyline than studying the animation and marveling at the lighting, etc. I will definitely be picking up a copy so I can watch over and over.
The Pink Panther (2006)
Pure Garbage
This was such an unbearable film to watch that I couldn't be bothered to waste my time viewing it to the end. I'm disturbed that people would find it funny. I am a huge fan of Steve Martin, so had pretty much assumed that he would to a great job in honour of Peter Sellers. Now I'm wondering if he had something against him. Martin's accent was absolutely abominable, as was Kline's. I mean, how on earth can two talented actors such as themselves NOT know how to do a fake french accent. It's really not that difficult! I can honestly say that the only part that had any kind of redeeming quality was the intro to film on the DVD version. The style was very cool; an interesting mix of 2 and 3D. Anyway, I realize now that taking time to complain about it is also a huge waste of my time. Better luck next time Steve.
Signs (2002)
Pure garbage
I can't believe this poor excuse for a film got such a high rating. I actually saw this pile of trash in the theatre and felt compelled to ask for my $ back. The "alien" was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever seen. One would expect a whole lot more these days with the amount of people out there with amazing 3D skills. Check out any number of 3D sites like www.3dtotal.com and see some REAL pros. Don't even get me started on the script. When I see this film as a rental I have to fight back the urge to throw it on the ground and stomp it to pieces. Personally I think Mr. Gibson has gone over the deep end with his film that contain very OBVIOUS religious overtones. I mean come on, does he think he has to repent for his Mad Max films? Well, at least they had some entertainment value....
