This movie is special because of its incredibly layered, complex and, above all, real depiction of evil. De Niro plays an ugly, disgusting, sickening and manipulative type of evil, while Di Caprio embodies a type of evil much harder to conceptualize, because his characters is in the mix of ingenuity, lack of intelligence and awareness that leads to his manipulation. But it's not really neither of those, because there's also some actual evil in this character, as his lies showcase. Besides these aspects, the movie doesn't strike as something creatively and incredibly orchestrated. Its nature is one of sobriety: the art and aesthetics don't stand out. Furthermore, the movies has a moment where it feels "sleepy", and by this I mean that the story feels stuck or moving unnecessarily slow. The pacing and rythm isn't quite there at times
