Splash Mountain, the Disneyland flume ride which has been criticized for racist and stereotyping related to its roots in the 1946 Disney film Song of the South, will officially close at the end of the day today to begin its renovation into an attraction based on the more modern film The Princess and the Frog. Walt Disney World closed its version of the ride in January.
According to Disneyland officials, the renovation project is expected to last more than a year. The re-imagined ride, which will be called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, is scheduled to open in late 2024. When the attraction closed in Orlando earlier this year, Splash Mountain saw a record wait time of 220 minutes on its final day. It looks like there is a similar turnout at Disneyland today, with some reporting a 200-minute wait by 2 p.m.

David DeLuise is reflecting on some fellow actors’ unprofessional behaviour on TV sets — and he’s not afraid to name names.
During the latest edition of PodCo’s “Wizards of Waverly Pod” rewatch series, in which he and fellow “Wizards of Waverly Place” alum Jennifer Stone share hosting duties, DeLuise looked back at the time he landed a guest spot as a murder victim on “CSI: Miami”, in which he shared a scene with star David Caruso.
His character, he explained, met his end after being stabbed in the neck, with Caruso’s Det. Horatio Caine showing up at the crime scene.
“So I was dead. All I did in the scene with him, I was dead,” DeLuise recalled.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: Who is the scariest serial killer on TV? You define “scary.” Old and current shows fair game.
Daniel Fienberg (@TheFienPrint), The Hollywood Reporter
Landry from “Friday Night Lights.”
Damian Holbrook (@damianholbrook), TV Guide Magazine
Ok, so he wasn’t necessarily a serial killer, but “Nip/Tuck’s” The Carver gave me a serious case of the scareds. After his first appearance near the end of Season 2, the porcelain-masked serial-slashing maniac who was all about slicing up hot people (because “beauty is a curse,” of course!) ran amok in Season 3 and the amount of series-regular characters he went after was kind of unprecedented. Did you watch long-running FX drama, Nip/Tuck? If you have been missing the graphic, plastic surgery sudser since it was cancelled in 2010, you might be in luck. Creator Ryan Murphy is mulling over a revival of the series. During the "Ryan Murphy and Friends" panel at Entertainment Weekly's EW Fest, Murphy suggested bringing back the series with new writers and recasting the main characters with two female leads.
The original series ran for 100 episodes and starred Dylan Walsh as Dr. Sean McNamara and Julian McMahon as Dr. Christian Troy. Joely Richardson and John Hensley rounded out the main cast for all six seasons. Roma Maffia, Kelly Carlson, Jessalyn Gilsig, and Bruno Campos also starred. Castle (Nathan Fillion) watches Beckett (Stana Katic) doing boring paperwork and Castle comments on the worst tasting coffee he's ever had. How does he know what a monkey that's peed in battery acid tastes like. Beckett thinks he's hiding since his book is out today. A Db has been found dumped in a rug. Castle takes photos of the Cs without the other's knowledge. He comments, "every artist needs a muse." Beckett threatens to break his legs if he calls her his muse. She's so violent, well if it isn't the use of a gun, it's physical violence she has on her mind. Castle doesn't believe it was a robbery since he wouldn't hang around to wrap him in a rug. But he also knows who the Vic is, as usual, kept that to himself for a while. He's Councilman Jeff Horn ( from the bus ads) he's up for re-election.

Whenever a network manages to take a series of soap opera quality and turn it into a cultural sensation, you have to take the time to step back and figure out what’s separating it from the shows relegated to early and midday time slots that have similar themes of torrid love affairs, murder, and irrational behavior on the part of every character featured within. What gives Nip/Tuck its little crowbar of separation from the average soap opera is the firm focus on character development, even if it comes from unexpectedly random emotional outbursts that place protagonists at odds with one another unexpectedly? If you were a fan of the show in its original run or are looking to get started on a new series, the recently released Nip/Tuck: The Complete Series on DVD represents four solid seasons of great dramatic television capped with two lesser seasons, leaving...

The Princess and the Frog was a breath of fresh air when we saw it released back in February this year. It’s now come out on Blu Ray and DVD and I’m pleased to report the magic transfers seamlessly onto your home TV screens.
The movie was the first to be hand drawn since 2004 and it was new Creative Director of Disney, John Lasseter who decided to bring the hand -drawn animation back to the studio where it all began with the genius that was, Walt Disney. The Princess and the Frog is a retelling of the fairy tale created by Grimm brothers back in the 19th Century. This is the review of The Princess and the Frog, directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, starring Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campos, Jennifer Cody, Jim Cummings, Keith David, Michael-Leon Wooley and Peter Bartlett. The Princess and the Frog, the latest offering from the Disney studios, is set in the French Quarter of New Orleans during the ‘Jazz Age’ and don’t you know it from the opening sequence to the closing credits, with bustling Mardi Gras scenery and new, but somewhat familiar, sounding show tunes as the film is scored by Disney stalwart Randy Newman.

The Princess and the Frog (2009) made only a minor impression at the box office last year when it arrived in movie theaters, and that's truly a shame. And it's a shame for several reasons. The film is an old-school Walt Disney production, crafted lovingly with hand-drawn animation and overseen by directors John Musker and Ron Clements, whose talents helped bring The Little Mermaid (1989), Aladdin (1992), and Hercules (1997) to life. Its modest-at-best success may mean that Disney -- and other studios, too -- might pull back on hand-drawn features, and that would mark the end of an era for a remarkable artform. It's also a shame for a far simpler reason: while it's true that The Princess and the Frog never quite achieves greatness and might not belong on the same shelf as some of the legendary Disney classics, it happens to be a wonderful gem of a movie in the spirit of its classic predecessors.

I'm not a big fan of remakes, or sequels for that matter. Accordingly, revamping a classic and drastically changing the characters and settings, made my hair stand up. That said, I was very pleased with the modern-day retelling. True, the story has shifted from the enchanting kiss of a princess to bring a prince back to human form from his frog form to a girl getting down to his level and taking adventure to unexplored horizons. It goes back to the classic old-school Disney formula loved by so many, and holds its ground. It's been a while since the last of this kind - "Home On the Range" was lackluster and painful to watch for the most part. The story tells of Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose), daughter of seamstress Eudora (Oprah Winfrey) who keeps two jobs to start her dream of owning a fancy New Orleans restaurant. Bruno Campos...

Walt Disney's The Princess and the Frog received much attention in the build up to its theatrical release last year. That was largely because it is the studio's first hand-drawn animated feature for several years. It was well worth the wait. It may not be quite on the level of classics such as The Jungle Book and The Aristocats but The Princess and the Frog unquestionably deserves to be recognised as one of Disney's best musical animated adventures. Thankfully, Walt Disney Home Entertainment has done justice to that by giving us a Blu-ray fit for the best Disney film since Wall-e.
Want to know more? The Princess and the Frog takes the classic fairy tale of the frog who is transformed into a prince by the kiss of a princess and turns it on its head. In Disney's version, the French-accented and penniless Prince Naveen of Maldonia (voiced by Bruno Campos...

As I move farther away from my first viewing of The Princess and the Frog, I begin to both like it more and respect it more. I originally praised it for being a wonderful relic of two-dimensional animation, and while I still believe it’s overly slapstick in parts when it could have been more toned down, it’s simply a wonderful film. On Blu-ray, it still has all the magic it retained the first time around, and is emblematic of what a good piece of Disney animation should be.
My original review follows:
Disney’s animated films have always had a curious way of reflecting the time period they were produced in. The thought is rather obvious, but struck me last week as I revisited 1977’s The Rescuers. The film seems to have come from the darkest decade in the Mouse’s history: within the opening credits, a bottle...

Chicago – The importance of Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” should not be underestimated in that it not only successfully brought back hand-drawn, 2D animation in an era dominated by CGI but it presented an American fairy tale for African-American children and adults everywhere. It’s a lovely little film with a few flaws that are easy to overlook with such a marvelous Blu-ray presentation.

For a while now, Pixar has been doing most of the heavy lifting for Disney's animated film department. Apart from distributing Hayao Miyazaki's occasional masterpiece, Disney has little stock left in the hand-drawn animation department, though they seem out to remedy that unfortunate trend with their recent feature The Princess and the Frog. It might not be the cure they wanted, but it will definitely be considered a solid strike towards the direction of getting their once revered house of mouse back in the hand-drawn animation biz. To its credit, The Princess and the Frog does a lot to recreate that magic Disney was once known for around the world (would anyone have cared about the Disneyworld resorts were it not for that sense of whimsy?). It has a few inspired musical numbers, a majority of wonderfully animated scenes against terrific backdrops true to the story's bayou setting, and...

Chicago – Once the Walt Disney company confers the title of “Princess” upon one of their characters, in pop culture they live forever. Tiana is the latest title holder, and she is voiced by Anika Noni Rose in “The Princess and the Frog,” now on DVD.
Princess Tiana is an breakthrough, of course, because she is the first African-American princess in Disney animation history. Tonight, Nip/Tuck said goodbye after seven seasons on the air and 100 episodes. The show is truly an original and has gone many crazy places that other shows haven't gone before. The show's talented cast includes Dylan Walsh, Julian McMahon, Joely Richardson, John Hensley, Roma Maffia, Kelly Carlson, Jessalyn Gilsig, Bruno Campos, Valerie Cruz, Kelsey Batelaan, and Linda Klein.
At the start of the series finale, "Hiro Yoshimura," Sean and Christian chew out Matt for ditching his wedding to Ramona. He professes his love for Ava and asks them to watch Jenna for a few days while he gets things sorted out.
At the office, the docs make Liz a partner in the company and show her by adding her name on the sign in the lobby. Sean tells her they'll put a nursery in the office so she can keep working and be...

Disney’s latest movie is a beautiful work of art with a magical touch and a soul stirring soundtrack that made me realise how much I’d missed hand drawn animation in this brave new world of CG.
It was John Lasseter who refilled the inkwells and restocked the paint pots of Disney’s traditional hand drawn animation studios after their doors closed following the completion of 2004’s Home on the Range, and it was a bold move from a man who introduced the screening personally via a pre-recorded message. You’ll know the man and his works, and you should also know that he has an overwhelming passion for what he does: celebrating wonderful stories, beautifully told.
The Princess and the Frog is a film that combines the very best of Disney’s talented storytellers, and you can practically feel the love that was poured into each frame of this film.

Talk about being disoriented right from the start! Minutes in the episode, viewers and characters are thrown in a chaotic storyline thanks to a injured patient who isn't making any sense. Of course, things got more chaotic seconds before the opening credits, when Bruno Campos suddenly appeared as the main ghost of the week and threw more nonsense at Melinda and co.
I don't know about you, but I felt dizzy watching this week's episode! I even had to pause a few times and try to reassess the situation since clues where coming from left and right, and things weren't making much sense. Plus, the ending was thrown at us so fast that I had to rewind to ensure I understood the reasons behind the weird happenings!

Precious (15)
(Lee Daniels, 2009, Us)
Gabourey Sidibe, Mo'Nique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey. 110 mins.
It sounds like a relentlessly depressing pile-up of miseries: the tale of a 1980s Harlem teenager who's poor, lonely, overweight, undereducated, abused by both parents, and pregnant for the second time by her father. And it gets worse after that. But, mercifully, this doesn't play by European social realist rules, throwing in flourishes of fantasy and even comedy, and offering glimmers of hope, real and imagined, to lighten its heroine's unenviable burden. It's still a harrowing watch, powerfully performed and earnestly authentic, but even as it wallows in the gutter, it's looking for the stars.
The Princess And The Frog (U)
(Ron Clements, John Musker, 2009, Us)
Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campos. 97 mins.

Disney returns to old-style animation, and gives us an African-American heroine, but it all looks a little old-fashioned, says Peter Bradshaw
The geniuses at Pixar have revitalised the art of animation: how weird then to see Pixar's guiding spirit, John Lasseter as executive producer of this very old-style Disney animation, which could have been made during the Nixon administration. The only thing that alerts us to its modernity is its new racial awareness. For the first time, the Disney corporation has given us a princess who is black. Or … have they? Tiana, voiced by Anika Noni Rose, is an African-American girl who once dreamed of kissing frogs to find her true prince. Now she's a hard-working young woman in New Orleans who dreams of opening a restaurant. A visiting aristocrat, Prince Naveen, voiced by Bruno Campos, is turned into a frog by a voodoo trickster and when Tiana kisses him – yikes!

Disney's return to the fairytale, The Princess and the Frog, comes out here on February 5, but in case you can't wait until then, here's a spiffy new poster from the film to tide you over, showing all the major characters and showcasing the gorgeous animation. For those of you who haven't seen it yet or toured around Walt Disney Animation Studios learning all about it (ahem), here's a handy guide to the characters. In the centre is Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), hard-working waitress with a dream of opening her own restaurant. On her palm is the froggy form of Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos), who got himself trans-frog-rified by voodoo man Dr Facilier (Keith David), top right. On the left is voodoo lady Mama Odie (Jenifer Lewis) and her snake Juju, alongside Cajun firefly Ray (Jim Cummings), and that's trumpet-playing alligator Louis (Michael-Leon Wooley) along the bottom. It's all directed by Ron Clements and John Musker,...

In a cinematic sense, there are few things more frustrating than not being able to wholeheartedly praise a movie that's drawn with good intentions and brings back the mind-blowingness of classic 2D hand-drawn animation. It's easy to love Disney's The Princess and the Frog, but much of this affection results from the nostalgia of the movie's visuals and an audience's willingness to get lost in the rapture of the final act. To bring things into perspective, I must stress that the female protagonist, Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), starts out as an independent, hard-working woman but eventually loses her way and decides that, above all, the ultimate happiness comes from capturing the right man. It doesn't even matter if this man is nothing but a ne'er do well slacker playboy, for love is simply enough to carry the day, and the rest falls into place. Perhaps even more exasperating is that...

Facts of interest: Disney's first hand-drawn film in five years.
The plot: Tiana is a charming, young woman from New Orleans who kisses a talking frog and magically transforms into one herself.
Our quick thoughts: Walt Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” is a marvelous return to good old hand-drawn animation, and even though it isn’t exactly as magical as most Disney classics, the film sure is a great addition to the studio’s wonderful collection of energetic, musical adventures boasting plenty of heart and soul.

Chicago – The feature animation film tradition, invented by and fostered by the Walt Disney Company for close to 70 years, gets another glorious rendition in their latest release, “The Princess and the Frog.”
Rating: 4.5/5.0
In an unexpected twist, given the title, the story is set in the early part of the 20th Century in New Orleans. Tiana (voice of Anika Noni Rose) is a hard-working African-American woman who dreams of opening her own restaurant. She holds down several jobs in a dedication to her father, who never got to live out his similar dreams.
One of her best friends is Charlotte, the daughter of a wealthy industrialist in the Crescent City. She is anticipating the visit of Prince Naveen, playboy royalty from across the ocean. The Prince is only interested in the music and party aspect of old New Orleans, and subsequently falls under the spell of the evil Dr. Facilier.

Ron Clements and John Musker return to Disney to bring fans the newest in their constantly growing vault of animated classics. The duo that most recently brought us Hercules and Treasure Planet, both of which were far less popular than most Disney animated productions, also deserve credit for two of the most popular ones… The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.
The story loosely follows the traditional story, but replaces the princess of the title with a hard-working young woman from New Orleans, a woman with little money and no royalty. Tiana, voiced by Anika Noni Rose, has a dream since her childhood of opening the grandest restaurant in New Orleans with her father. She carries this dream on her back, working two jobs as a waitress and saving every little penny she earns to one day realize her dreams.

The Princess and the Frog
Directed by: Ron Clements, John Musker
Cast: Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campos, Jennifer Cody, Keith David
Running Time: 1 hr 35 mins
Rating: G
Release Date: December 11, 2009
Plot: A young woman in New Orleans works hard to attain her dream of owning a restaurant. Unfortunately, she gets sidetracked by a layabout Prince in the form of a frog. Soon they’re looking for a way to turn back human with a horn-playing gator and a lovelorn firefly.
Who’S It For? Kids, but it will definitely appeal to adults too. Anyone who enjoyed the early ’90s Disney hits like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin should enjoy this.
Expectations: This is the first 2D Disney film since John Lasseter took over the animation department. I was hoping for a classic Disney film, including good music and likable characters, though hopefully with a more modern sensibility.

Being a princess is not always an easy way out of a problem.
If there’s anything modern about The Princess and the Frog, that would be it. Touted as Disney’s big return to hand-drawn animation, it’s the first of the Disney Princess line that doesn’t have its main character escape hardship by finding true love in a rich suitor. Though the two main characters spend most of the movie as a couple of frogs (a fact that might raise a few eyebrows, considering how much has been made about this being Disney's first "black princess") going on an enchanted adventure, it's in human form that they really make lasting impressions.
Our heroine Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) is certainly no princess. She’s a woman whose idea of happily ever after is buying a fixer-upper factory to turn into her very own restaurant. Her prince, a flirt...

Sure, it's great that Disney is returning to its roots, making its first 2D animated film in years. And yes, of course, it's terrific that the studio has finally made a movie that features an African-American woman as the princess. So it's too bad that "The Princess and the Frog" fails to live up to all that potential. Let's face it, it's not like the Mouse was trying to go back to the moon or reinvent the wheel. But it feels as though they took a cursory look at the Disney flicks from the early 90s and just tried to emulate what worked. And when you do that, it doesn't. The film is set in New Orleans during the Jazz age, and the Princess in this case is Tiana, voiced by Anika Noni Rose. She works two jobs and has been saving up for years in the hopes of opening her own restaurant.

Disney’s animated films have always had a curious way of reflecting the time period they were produced in. The thought is rather obvious, but struck me last week as I revisited 1977’s The Rescuers. The film seems to have come from the darkest decade in the Mouse’s history: within the opening credits, a bottle containing an Sos note drifts out to sea over a song declaring its own loneliness and desperation. The tale of two mice rescuing a little girl from an abusive hell-hag is drawn in a sketchy and spastic style that reflects its subject material greatly — it’s unique in its vicious nature, as dark as Bambi’s classic scenes are chalked up to be.
Thirty-two years later, times have certainly changed. The Princess and the Frog, the first classically hand-drawn animated film since President Obama’s step into the limelight, reflects a sense of sterling...

Disney is poised make a triumphant return to form with the animation style that the studio used to change the industry over seven decades ago. The Princess and the Frog is the first hand-drawn animation from Disney since 2004's Home on the Range and graces the big screen courtesy of some legendary studio talent, including the directorial pairing of Ron Clements and John Musker in their sixth studio collaboration (including both Aladdin and The Little Mermaid ). Featuring Disney's first African-American princess, the film reimagines the Brothers Grimm's "The Frog Prince" in New Orleans, backed by musical numbers written by Randy Newman.
