There are breathtaking stunts throughout the "Mission: Impossible" series, like when Tom Cruise rides a motorcycle off a cliff or climbs the Burj Khalifa, but "Mission: Impossible 2" — considered the weakest despite having the most subversive visuals — includes a memorable stunt on a much smaller scale. It's far more intimate but incredibly visceral.
On a sandy beach with the background of crashing waves, the hot-tempered villain Ambrose and Ethan Hunt engage in hand-to-hand combat. In the midst of their slamming punches and leaping kicks, Ambrose sneakily pulls out a knife. In a behind-the-scenes video, director John Woo describes Ambrose's combative approach as "evil" and "dirty." Woo came up with the choreography where "he jumps up in the air and lands on Tom and this knife almost cuts his face, and also pretty close to his eye." In between Richard Linklater films and Broadway stints, Ethan Hawke seemingly can’t resist playing the action hero. The character actor’s portfolio contains some surprising hits like Daybreakers, The Purge and The Magnificent Seven. All of which capitalised on Hawke’s inherent charm and vulnerability. Even his turn in gritty crime drama Training Day, saw his determined cop Jake tempered by naivete and sycophancy. 24 Hours to Live seeks then to drop Hawke’s lovable persona into some of the most high-octane action of his career.
Hawke plays Travis Conrad, a wetwork specialist for Red Mountain, a Blackwater-esque Private Military Company. When one of Red Mountain’s soldiers gives up vital intel to Xu Qing’s Interpol agent, Travis is hired to take them both out. Which he then proceeds to royally screw up and get himself killed. Fortunately, Red Mountain has been working on a new experiment to revive dead soldiers.

Ethan Hawke is not known as an action hero. But then, neither was Liam Neeson before Taken. Hawke has done exciting movies like Training Day, The Purge and In a Valley of Violence, but he’s better known as the intellectual lover in Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight. In his new movie, 24 Hours to Live, director Brian Smrz said Hawke is really the one you see fighting bad guys and crashing cars. “For the most part, he wanted to do as much as he could,” Smrz said in a phone interview. “But he’s also smart enough to know that certain times we’d put...read more...

24 Hours to Live has a great premise that’s sure to make you want to see the movie. However, its director, Brian Smrz, wishes you didn’t know what it is about. Spoiler warning for 24 Hours to Live, although this spoiler is only the spoiler that the film’s distributors agreed to show in the trailers and marketing for the film. Ethan Hawke plays Travis, a hit man lured out of his hiatus for a high paying job. The job goes south and Travis dies. That’s the beginning of the movie. "These guys don't play nice." Get locked and loaded. Saban Films debuted another new official trailer for the adrenaline-fueled action indie movie 24 Hours to Live, yet another assassin story if you're up for another one. Ethan Hawke stars as a career assassin who is given a chance at redemption after his employer brings him back to life temporarily after being killed on the job. This trailer is a bit more action heavy again, making this seem like some Taken meets Bourne meets Shoot 'Em Up meets Crank movie. The rest of the main cast includes Xu Qing, Liam Cunningham, Rutger Hauer, and Paul Anderson. This is worth a watch just to see what it's about, but damn it seems like a weird film with angry Hawke. Have fun. Here's the second official trailer (+ poster) for Brian Smrz's 24 Hours to Live, direct from Vimeo: You can still watch the first...

In the years since breaking away from the heartthrob roles that made him famous in the 90s and a central figure of pop culture, Ethan Hawke has been keeping himself very busy with a wide range of projects and outdoing himself in each one. From award winners (Boyhood) and Canadian indies (Maudie) to mind-bending sci-fi (Predestination) to horror (Sinister), he has become one of the most interesting and consistently great actors working today.
His latest, an action thriller titled 24 Hours to Live, isn't going to be winning any awards for creativity in either the title or plot department but Hawke is always fun to watch and if nothing else, director Brian Smrz certainly has the experience behind the camera to pull this one off.

With hard-working hometown boy Ethan Hawke in the lead, it's easy to see why the Austin Film Festival would add Brian Smrz's 24 Hours to Live to its lineup. But the long-running event's focus on the art of screenwriting makes Aff an uneasy fit for this action pic, whose underdeveloped script is not among its modest virtues. Focusing on a hitman who is brought back from the dead and has 24 hours to save his former target's life, the picture sports the kind of commercial appeal that plays best in non-English-speaking territories. On these shores, it will quickly shuttle from...

Travis Conrad (Ethan Hawke) has sacrificed everything for the agency, including his family, his future, and his own life. "I'm going to come at you with everything I've got!" Saban Films has unveiled an official trailer for an action film titled 24 Hours to Live, yet another assassin movie if you're up for another one of these. Ethan Hawke stars as a career assassin who is given a chance at redemption after his employer brings him back to life temporarily after being killed on the job. Sounds a bit like the plot to Crank, but this doesn't look similar at all. The rest of the cast includes Xu Qing, Liam Cunningham, Rutger Hauer, and Paul Anderson. I'm seriously surprised that Ethan Hawke is in a film like this, but I guess he needs some extra work to keep things going. The clock on the arm isn't an original idea, but it is kind of cool. Marvel Music/Hollywood Records have released the digital versions of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2 songs-only album and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 original score album by composer Tyler Bates (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “John Wick Chapter 2,” “Watchmen”).
The film opens in U.S. theaters on May 5, 2017.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is filled with great action, humor and performances, but it is also infused with a new mixed tape and soundtrack, a dynamic that resonated deeply with audiences in the first film as evidenced by the success of the soundtrack album. The Grammy-nominated “Guardians of the Galaxy” soundtrack reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, becoming the first soundtrack album consisting entirely of previously released songs to top the chart. The album was certified Platinum by the R.I.A.A.

Ethan Hawke has signed up for the Brian Smrz-directed thriller "24 Hours to Live" which goes on sale shortly at the upcoming European Film Market. The story follows an assassin given another shot at life after being revived by his employer.
The casting comes as CBS is reportedly seeking Hawke to reprise his role of Jake Hoyt from 2001 cop drama "Training Day" in the upcoming TV series based on the property says Deadline.
The new show will follow a now corrupt older white cop taking a young black detective under his wing, a reverse of the original film's setup. At least two versions of the pilot script existed, the one that got greenlit has Hoyt in support as the Deputy Chief.
The site indicates Hawke would be fine with the occasional guest appearance (ala Bradley Cooper in "Limitless") but not a regular recurring role.

It's the end of week, so let's take a few minutes to clear off some of the various comic book movie bits and bobs that have been hanging around our digital desk.... First up, Adam McKay, who gave Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" a "bigger" and "funnier" rewrite, says he might direct a movie for Marvel. "I’m starting to get into the early stages with Marvel. There’s plenty of fun stuff and our company always has tons of things so we have a couple movies coming out this year,” he told Collider. "I just did a big rewrite on 'Ant-Man' with Paul Rudd and had such a great time working with them that we’re kicking around ideas. But yeah, maybe I would take on one of the characters so we haven’t locked in anything, but discussions are definitely going on.” Which character do you think McKay has right sensibilities for?...

(Cbr) Quicksilver, the breakout star of "X-Men: Days of Future Past," is revving up for another outing in its sequel, and possibly even a film of his own. I’ve worked with Hugh Jackman four times before this, and I love the younger cast who’s already great to work with as well.” But then Smrz went on to say he’s been taking a lot of meetings about directing opportunities. “We talked about Quicksilver before,...

Evan Peters will be reprising the role of Quicksilver in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse...
Well, this'll cheer Marvel up. It's little secret that there was a bit of behind the scenes unhappiness when it was revealed that Bryan Singer was bringing the character of Quicksilver into X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Still, lots of us went to see X-Men: Days Of Future Past over the summer, and lots of us walked away thinking that Evan Peters' take on the character was one of the absolute highlights of the film.
And he must have gone down well, becase it's now been revealed that Peters will be reprising the role of Quicksilver in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse.

After stealing the show in "X-Men: Days of Future Past," Evan Peters' Quicksilver is unsurprisingly getting some more screen time. Second unit director Brian Smrz tells Newsarama that another sequence with the character is planned for "X-Men: Apocalypse":
"They want me to start pretty soon, on the storyboarding and stuff. I’ll be working on the next X-Men for the next month or so part-time, and by the end of the year it’ll be full-time... There will be another Quicksilver scene, which I'm looking forward to. That'll be fun."
Smrz played a key part in shooting the Quicksilver sequence in 'Days' and even suggests a solo film about the character is something he'd love to see: "We talked about Quicksilver before. I'd love to do a Quicksilver as a solo film because there's a lot to enjoy with that character."
Filming on "X-Men: Apocalypse" begins in April.

After knocking it out of the park this summer with X-Men: Days of Future Past, all eyes are on director Bryan Singer, who has a lot to live up to with the 2016 sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse. Described as a sort of 1980’s disaster film, Apocalypse will conclude the First Class trilogy and, by all accounts, sounds like the biggest X-Men film yet.
One easy way Singer can win some immediate fan goodwill is by bringing back Evan Peters as Quicksilver, the headphone-wearing speedster who stole the show in Days of Future Past despite some extremely negative reactions to early marketing material. We’ve heard rumors that Peters would appear in Apocalypse, but now it’s been made official thanks to former stuntman Brian Smrz, who served as second unit director on Dofp and was responsible for much of Quicksilver’s jaw-dropping scene in the Pentagon kitchen.

It didn't take long after the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past for the franchise filmmakers to realize that they would need to give Evan Peters' Quicksilver a much bigger role in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. Audiences truly fell in love with the wacky, speedy mutant this past summer, and the sequence where he helps Magneto break out of the Pentagon is considered by many to be the best in the film. It will certainly be hard to top in the sequel, but that's not stopping the braintrust behind the franchise from trying. In an interview with Newsarama, X-Men: Days of Future Past second unit director Brian Smrz has revealed that the franchise is already working on a way to give the spotlight to Quicksilver once again in X-Men: Apocalypse. Revealing in the conversation that he was the one who shot most of the famed hyperspeed Quicksilver sequence...

You know that awesome Quicksilver prison break scene that we all loved from X-Men: Days of Future Past? Well, second unit director Brian Smrz revealed in an interview with Newsarama that it was he who did most of the work on bringing that scene to life instead of director Bryan Singer. He also throws out a few hints about X-Men: Apocalypse and a possible solo movie for Quicksilver. Here's what he said about working on the prison break scene:
"Probably the most memorable part of the film was getting the chance to work closely with almost all of the main cast in various scenes. As far as a particular scene that sticks out the most, I’d say the kitchen sequence with Quicksilver. I ended up doing a lot of that," he revealed before adding, "I did most of it, to be honest. I have a great relationship with Bryan Singer,...

Much to the surprise of pretty much everyone, Quicksilver ended up stealing the show in X-Men: Days of Future Past earllier this year. The scene in which he speeds into action has been unanimously praised, with some fans wondering how Joss Whedon will top it when we see a different version of the character in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron. When Newsarama recently caught up with second unit director Brian Smrz, he revealed that he was the one who actually pit the majority of the sequence together in the "inbetweenquel". To create the high octane aerial “Barrel of Monkeys” sequence in Disney and Marvel's Iron Man 3, the production enlisted the Red Bull Skydiving Team to play the roles of civilians, who after an attack on Air Force One, are sent free-falling to earth as Iron Man attempts a dramatic rescue by scooping them up one by one. Aiming to maximize the realism, visual effects supervisor Christopher Townsend and second unit director Brian Smrz choose to shoot it as an actual freefall sequence rather than using other approaches such as shooting on wires against greenscreen, explained Digital Domain’s VFX

Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ray Liotta are answering the call for Millennium Films' Hero Wanted.
Brian Smrz will make his directorial debut with the film, which centers on a garbage collector who stages a bank robbery so he can be the hero and stop it in order to impress a girl who works at the bank. When the plan goes awry, he seeks revenge against the double-crossers. Chad and Evan Law penned the screenplay.
Shooting is set to begin next month in Bulgaria.
Richard Salvatore, Johnny Martin and David Ornston are producing. Millennium's Trevor Short and Boaz Davidson are executive producing.
Smrz worked as a second-unit director on such tentpoles as Superman Returns and X-Men before landing the Hero gig.
"I was very impressed by Smrz's creative vision and felt he would bring real style to this project," Martin said.
The Oscar-winning Gooding's most recent credits include Norbit. He next will appear in Ridley Scott's American Gangster opposite Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. He is repped by CAA, 3 Arts Entertainment and attorneys Jake Bloom and Ralph Brescia.
