In 2017, following eight losses throughout the preceding decade, Ryan Murphy finally achieved his first competitive PGA Award win for producing the first iteration of “American Crime Story,” aka “The People v. O.J. Simpson.” Two years later, his work on the show’s second season – “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” – led to him becoming one of the inaugural honorees in the Best Limited Series PGA category (which was established to separate such programs from TV movies). Now, according to Gold Derby’s odds, he is heavily favored to triumph there again as the producer of Netflix’s “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”

Seth Rogen has spoken out about his experience as part of the cast of Steven Spielberg’s Toronto Film Festival-bound The Fabelmans.
The actor shares in an upcoming edition of The Process that he wrapped his role in the film, loosely based on the iconic filmmaker’s childhood and upbringing, toward the end of last year. “It was really cool. It was fascinating. It was a really surreal experience for everyone involved,” Rogen said of the film, which has him playing a character inspired by Spielberg’s uncle. “It premieres at Toronto. I’ve literally not seen one frame of it, so it’ll be a bizarre experience.”
In conversation with Pam & Tommy editor Tatiana S. Riegel for Deadline’s video series, Rogen also addressed his “immense” relief in seeing Lily James excel in her transformational turn as the Hulu series’ Pamela Anderson.

Colin Farrell is doubling down on his television commitments.
The actor, already set to reprise his role as The Penguin in The Batman spinoff for HBO Max, is set to star in a genre-bending Apple series called Sugar.
Plot details about the series, from creator Mark Protosevich (Thor), are being kept under wraps. Farrell will star and exec produce the series alongside Protosevich, Simon Kinberg (Deadpool), Audrey Chon (Invasion), Scott Greenberg, Chip Vucelich and Fernando Meirelles (City of God), with the latter set to direct.
The series marks the second at Apple for Kinberg’s Genre Films banner, joining the recently renewed sci-fi drama Invasion. Apple will produce the series in-house via its Apple Studios banner after landing the project following a bidding war with Netflix in December.
Sugar becomes Farrell’s latest TV role following HBO anthology True Detective. His credits include The Batman and The Lobster.

Apple has formally ordered the drama series “Sugar” starring Colin Farrell to series, Variety has learned.
It was first reported in December 2021 that Apple had won the rights to the series in a competitive situation, though it had not officially been ordered to series at that time.
Exact plot details for the show remain under wraps, aside from the fact that it is described as a genre-bending contemporary take on the private detective story set in Los Angeles.
Mark Protosevich serves as writer and executive producer on the project. Farrell will executive produce in addition to starring. Fernando Meirelles will direct and executive produce. Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon of Genre Films also executive produce, as do Scott Greenberg and Chip Vucelich.
This is the second streaming series that Farrell has attached himself too in recent months. It was previously announced that Farrell is set to star in an HBO Max spinoff of “The Batman,...

Apple TV+ has a sweet update to share about its big acquisition from 2021: The streamer has greenlit Sugar to series. It stars Colin Farrell and is from creator Mark Protosevich.
Farrell will also executive produce the genre-bending series from Apple Studios along with Protosevich, Simon Kinberg (X-Men), Audrey Chon (Invasion) and Scott Greenberg (The Guilty). Academy Award-nominee Fernando Meirelles (City of God) will direct as well as EP. Chip Vucelich also executive produces.
As Deadline reported exclusively in December, Apple TV+ outbid Netflix for the potential TV series. The plot has been kept under wraps but we heard it was a Los Angeles-based, contemporary take on the private detective story.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Sebastian Stan shared a new image related to his upcoming part in Hulu’s limited series Pam & Tommy. In it Stan, who plays Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee opposite James’ Pamela Anderson, poses in character wearing just shorts, shoes and an apron emblazoned with the words “Kiss the Cook,” with the hashtag “Sunday” appended.
The photo is similar to many shirtless, in character poses the actor has posted in recent weeks, but his one seemed a bit more appropriate to a BBQ-filled holiday weekend.

The post was liked by co-star Seth Rogen as well as Drake Doremus — who directed Stan in Endings — Beginnings and producer Simon Kinberg.
Hulu previously released several photos of Stan and co-star Lily James that recalled famous images of Lee and Anderson. You can see those here.

Courtney Love is definitely not onboard with “Pam & Tommy,” Hulu’s upcoming series telling the story of Love’s longtime friends Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. In fact, Love is putting Lily James — who will star as Anderson — on blast for being part of the project at all.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Love voiced her disgust for the project, saying that it is capitalizing on a particularly traumatic event in Pamela Anderson’s life. According to her post, the project seemingly came to Love’s attention when she was asked to approve the use of a “Rolling Stone” cover she posed for.
“I find this so f—ing outrageous . When Pam / tommy sex tape was out / myself @pattyschemel @xmadmx were making a record. And the lone women in many recording studios in la,” Love wrote. “Where all / All! The staff engineers / producers / owners / were watching the sex...

Nope, you haven’t traveled back to 1995. The first look at Lily James and Sebastian Stan as Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee in “Pam & Tommy” is here.
The Hulu limited series will be a comedic take on the drama surrounding the world’s first viral video: Pam and Tommy’s infamous sex tape. In addition to James and Stan, the series also stars Seth Rogen, Nick Offerman, Taylor Schilling, Andrew Dice Clay, Pepi Sonuga, Spencer Granese, and Mozhan Marnò. As always, Ace, PGA, and SAG have some of the most direct crossover with Academy members, so what they think does hold water. Are any one of them the be all, end all? No, but they cumulatively represent a lot of what potential Oscar voters are thinking at the moment. So, you must give them credence. The big winner of the weekend was La La Land, though Hidden Figures has now created some interesting new dynamics to the race. Musical cements status as Oscar frontrunner.
Fred Berger, Jordan Horowitz and Marc Platt performed what looked very much like a rehearsal for another awards show at Saturday’s 28th annual Producers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills.
The La La Land producers beat out a strong field that included Arrival, Moonlight, Fences, Manchester By The Sea and Lion to claim the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures.
Given the track record of the PGA Awards as a bellwether of Academy Awards success, Berg, Horowitz and Platt have three hands on the biggest prize of them all heading into Oscar night on February 26.
While the best picture Oscar winner and the PGA’s Darryl F. Zanuck Award winner are often one and the same, last year’s PGA champion The Big Short lost to Spotlight on Oscar night.

The crime of the century became a media circus, with no angle hidden -- yet behind what we saw on TV was even more conflict and consternation. This eight-hour miniseries is a beautifully constructed recreation with excellent casting, even though its O.J. doesn't remind us much of the original. It's highly absorbing stuff to anyone who lived through it. The People v. O.J.
