Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1, the Western epic directed by and starring Kevin Costner, only debuts at the Cannes Film Festival 2024 on Sunday. But the movie and the second part of the story have already sold to the country where Chapter 1 will get its world premiere in an out-of-competition slot.
Metropolitan FilmExport will distribute the old-school Western from Warner Bros. in France, it emerged on Thursday. Daniel Baur’s K5 International is handling the international rights at the Cannes film market.
Warner Bros. is betting big on Horizon, releasing the first entry in Costner’s multi-film frontier epic on June 28 across North America, followed by Chapter 2 on Aug. 16. The marketing team behind Barbie believes that, for the domestic market, two $100 million Westerns from the star of Yellowstone are as good as money in the bank.

What really happened during the 48 hours leading up to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy — at least according to mob bosses — is heading to the big screen in the upcoming film “November 1963: The Killing of a President.”
The mob’s version of events were passed down to Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana’s nephew, Nicholas Celozzi, by Sam’s brother, the late Joseph “Pepe” Giancana, who drove around with his brother Sam during those two days.
“The reason why there’s this fascination or anxiety is because people know that what they’ve heard so far doesn’t make sense,” Celozzi tells Variety of the ongoing interest in the circumstances surrounding JFK’s assassination, even 60 years later. “They keep talking about it because they’re waiting to hear something that makes more common sense.”

Exclusive: A surprise project has emerged to whet the appetites of hungry international buyers at next week’s American Film Market: Kevin Costner’s big-budget Warner Bros Western Horizon: An American Saga.
The two-part project is being sold to international buyers by recently rebooted German-based sales firm K5 International.
Chapters 1 and 2 of Horizon have been set by New Line to open domestically in cinemas on June 28, 2024, and August 16, 2024, respectively. That strong theatrical commitment is something that will appeal to international buyers, and some we’ve spoken with are already enthused about getting a sighter at a big-budget movie from an Oscar winner like Costner, even if prices are inevitably high.
We hear that Costner himself will likely take a view on offers in major territories, which isn’t unusual for an A-list director-producer working on a passion project, especially given that he has reportedly put a chunk of his own money into it.
