Novelist Craig Clevenger wowed readers with his inventive debut novel The Contortionist.s Handbook in 2002 - which has made its way around Hollywood and has had Leonardo DiCaprio and Channing Tatum both attached to at different times. Since then he's released the less critically-praised Dermaphoria, and an anthology submission, but has mostly been removed from the public consciousness. But that will probably change soon. Dermaphoria will soon get a feature film adaptation, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Motion Picture Capital has secured funding for the film and landed documentary filmmaker Ross Clarke to make his feature directorial debut. Clarke.s main claim to fame has been the documentary Skid Row, which followed rapper Pras Michel around as he went homeless in L.A. for a nine-day experiment. This will be a beast of an entirely different nature. The story is described as .Memento meets Breaking Bad,. and although those...

Dear John and Step Up star (and Hollywood heartthrob), Channing Tatum, is set to star in and produce The Contortionist's Handbook. In this big screen adaptation of Craig Clevenger's novel of the same name — first published in 2002 — Tatum will play an identity-changing forger whose life is turned upside down when he meets a mysterious woman with a secret of her own.
The 30-year-old actor currently has a number of movie projects in production, including Haywire and The Dilemma, both due for a theater release in 2011. After romantic hit Dear John raked in an impressive $112 million dollars worldwide, Tatum is no stranger to box office success, though this new project isn't likely to appeal to his hordes of female fans.
Production on The Contortionist's Handbook is due to start next year, and will be produced by Tim Williams, Sidney Kimmel, Sriram Das and John Penotti. Tatum and Reid Carolin will also co-produce.

Does Channing Tatum have what it takes to become a serious actor? Up until now his filmography hasn't been particularly impressive, consisting mainly of drivel like Step Up, Fighting, Dear John and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but he has also been taking on smaller roles in slightly more interesting movies such as A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Battle in Seattle and Michael Mann's Public Enemies. He's also starring in Steven Soderbergh's Haywire and Kevin Macdonald's The Eagle, and now this week we have news that he will be starring in The Contortionist's Handbook, based on one of Chuck Palahniuk's favourite novels. That's not all either... apparently he'll also be producing the movie too. Written by Craig Clevenger, the book is about a man named John Dolan Vincent who finds himself in and out of prison and hospitals thanks to drug addiction problems and his various criminal activities.

Hollywood hunk Channing Tatum ("G.I. Joe," "Dear John") is set to produce and star in an adaptation of Craig Clevenger's novel "The Contortionist's Handbook" reports Deadline.
Despite the title, Tatum won't be performing any 'downward dog' manuevers let alone interesting acts of self-gratification. Rather, Tatum would play a forger capable of switching identities because of his adherence to a strict code of conduct.
When he falls for a beautiful woman with a dark secret, his own troubled past threatens to re-emerge.
Robin Shushan penned the script, though no director is yet locked and filming.

Another day, another novel being adapted for the big screen. This time it's Channing Tatum taking the reins on Craig Clevenger's debut novel The Contortionist's Handbook, which the Alabama-born hunk will both star in and produce.
The book follows John Dolan Vincent, a talented young forger with a weakness for narcotics who, faced with institutionalization, continually creates new identities for himself in order to escape the legal and mental health authorities. Chuck Palahniuk, the author of Fight Club, has been shouting the merits of this book from the rooftops, and presumably kicking himself for not have thinking of the idea himself.
Newcomer Robin Shushan has penned the script, and no director is attached as yet, but there's plenty of time as the film will have to squander in development a little longer while Tatum gets done with his slate of other projects first.
