Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin Entertainment was one of the production companies that backed up the 1996 film Twister. The hit disaster thriller starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Jami Gertz, and Cary Elwes introduced storm chasers trying to contain a tornado outbreak in Oklahoma. Spielberg also served as an executive producer (EP) on the film.

Many years later, Spielberg is also an EP on the standalone sequel Twisters which is coming soon to theatres. The film stars Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos. For Ramos’ character Javi, the actor envisioned him having a Southern accent. However, Spielberg told him to keep his natural accent for the film, which surprised Ramos.

Glen Powell is a worker. He’s currently on an early 2000s Colin Ferrell/Samuel L. Jackson/Morgan Freeman run where he’s seemingly in everything. The breakout star of Top Gun: Maverick, who has two movies coming out this summer — Hit Man and Twisters — was also recently reported to join Margaret Qualley and Ed Harris in the thriller Huntington for writer/director John Patton Ford. Plus, he has stated that he and his Anyone But You co-star Sydney Sweeney are currently looking for more projects to star in after they capitalized on their on-set romance speculation.
The Hollywood Reporter is now confirming that Powell is in talks to star in the next movie from sci-fi blockbuster director J.J. Abrams. According to THR, no deal has yet to be made and there is no word on what the plot will be. However, it is also reported that this film will...

Glen Powell has been officially announced as the lead in Monsanto, a legal drama whilst also being linked to an upcoming JJ Abrams project.
Glen Powell seems to be at the top of every casting director’s wish list when it comes to constructing a film ensemble. As it stands, we’re not even halfway through May and we’ve already learned that Powell will be starring in Huntington, an A24 revenge thriller with Margaret Qualley. That’s on top of the announcement last month that he would be starring in Edgar Wright’s planned adaptation of The Running Man.
Two announcements in the space of a month seemingly isn’t enough for Powell, though. Now two announcements in a day? That’s more like it.
The first project is confirmed as happening. It’s called Monsanto and is a legal drama that will co-star Laura Dern and Anthony Mackie.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes releases in theatres on May 10th, 2024.
The reboot from the past decade of the massive Planet of the Apes franchise is often mentioned in debates about the best trilogies of the century, and personally, I couldn’t agree more. Although Rupert Wyatt’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes doesn’t quite reach the same level as Matt Reeves’ Dawn and War (The Batman), the trilogy’s overarching story has the ideal narrative, thematic, and entertainment ingredients for an undeniable success, alongside the truly impressive use of motion-capture technology.
With Wes Ball (The Maze Runner) at the helm and a script by Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), expectations couldn’t be higher for one of the most anticipated films of the year, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Following our first glimpse of new disaster movie sequel Twisters during this year's Super Bowl, the second official trailer for the film has now touched down online, featuring yet more wind-powered destruction facing off against Glen Powell's nuclear-level charm. Have a look:
Directed by Minari's Lee Issac Chung, Twisters introduces us to Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) a former storm chaser who, following a tragic twister encounter prefers to do her tornado tracking from the relatively safety of a screen in New York.
Yet because she still holds out hope for her theories on how to reduce or even wipe out twists, she's lured back to storm country by pal Javi (Anthony Ramos), who has a groundbreaking new tracking system he wants to test.
And that brings her into contact with cocky, reckless social media superstar storm chaser Tyler Owens (Powell), who never met a twister he didn't want to track down.

A new trailer for Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters has landed on Youtube and it has a fiery mega-tornado. Need we say more? Watch the new Twisters trailer below.
We didn’t really need much more convincing to see this summer’s windiest blockbuster Twisters, but the new trailer has sold us on the film even more.
Fire tornado. That’s all we’ll say.
Here’s the new Twisters trailer:

We didn’t really need much more convincing to see this summer’s windiest blockbuster Twisters, but the new trailer has sold us on the film even more.
Fire tornado. That’s all we’ll say.

Being from the Midwest myself (and even facing tornado warnings in the past few weeks), it seems that the severe storms will be hitting no matter what as the spiritual sequel to Twister touches down in theaters this July. This year has seen some crazy tornadic activity for states like Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. However, Lee Issac Chung’s Twisters is taking them to a whole new level. Universal Pictures has just released the new three-minute trailer for the summer thrill ride, looking to outdo any of the cyclones that Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt encountered in the 1996 original. This time Daisy Edgar-Jones partners up with the “Tornado Wrangler,” played by Glen Powell.
The official synopsis reads, “Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City.

From the producers of the Jurassic, Bourne, and Indiana Jones series comes the Twisters movie, a current-day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster Twister.
Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the Oscar-nominated writer-director of Minari, Twisters stars Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell as opposing forces who come together to try to predict, and possibly tame, tornadoes’ immense power.

Artificial intelligence is here to stay, and if SAG-afta thought they could silence AI once the strike settled, they’ve got another thing coming. One of the major talking points of last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike — which lasted from July to November — was the threat of AI within the industry. And while it has been just under six months since the strike ended, the topic is once again at the forefront.
The next focus for SAG-AFTRA is negotiations for the 2026 contract, which is already on the table as far as discussion goes. At a recent event, Lisa Powell — executive vice president of SAG-AFTRA — confirmed that one of the key matters at hand will indeed be AI, which they claimed a small but vital win over during the contract settlement last fall. “We’re watching A.I., we’ve got a lot of legislation going on to try and cover...

Following 118 days on strike, SAG-AFTRA secured a deal with the studios that was worth over $1B that it said had ““unprecedented provisions”.
But the guild isn’t resting on its laurels, it’s already looking ahead to its next contract with the AMPTP in 2026.
Over the weekend, SAG-AFTRA’s EVP, Linda Powell, LA VP Jodi Long, who is also LA Local President and SAG-AFTRA VP, Actors/Performers Shari Belafonte were in Denver at SeriesFest to discuss the contract and what’s next for the guild.
The trio discussed the contract gains, including new money for healthcare, protections on AI, new measures on self-tapes and the guild’s new streaming residual bonus.
But they also highlighted the fact that there’s another contract to negotiate in 2026.
Powell said she was “feeling ready for the next fight”.

Following Raw and Titane, Julia Ducournau has set her third feature with Alpha. Though no plot details have been unveiled this far, Golshifteh Farahani and Tahar Rahim (A Prophet) will lead the film, Deadline reports. “Alpha is Julia’s most personal, profound work yet, and we are looking forward to a global audience discovering the story with as much excitement as we did,” said Filmnation and Charades, while the producers added, “Alpha is a new page in Julia Ducournau’s corpus that is both very consistent with the previous ones and entirely new in its tone.”

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Legendary film editor Thelma Schoonmaker is honoring the films of filmmaking duo Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger with an upcoming retrospective at MoMA.
Titled “Cinema Unbound: The Creative Worlds of Powell and Pressburger,” the screening series is presented in collaboration with the BFI and will take place from June 21 to July 31. The program includes more than 50 films — many of which are new restorations — and was curated by conservation experts, archivists, and curators at the BFI National Archive.
Oscar-winning editor Schoonmaker will open the series on June 21 with an introduction to the new digital restoration of “Black Narcissus” (1947). Schoonmaker was married to British director Powell from 1984 until his death in 1990.
Powell and Pressburger’s cultural legacy is most notably recognized in their film “The Red Shoes” (1948), which has inspired sequences in films such as Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers,” Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan,” and Martin Scorsese’s “Raging Bull,” which Schoonmaker edited.

Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), and Ed Harris (The Truman Show) are set to star in the revenge thriller Huntington for writer/director John Patton Ford, and Deadline reports that A24 has just boarded the project to handle its domestic distribution.
Drawing inspiration from the 1949 crime comedy Kind Hearts and Coronets, Huntington will see Powell taking on the role of Becket Redfellow, the heir to a multi-billion-dollar fortune who will stop at nothing to get what he deserves… Or what he thinks he deserves. Whether you love it or hate it—or just hate that you might, kinda, maybe be chill with it—Will Gluck’s Anyone But You has found its audience. The Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell two-hander defied critics and connected with plenty of folks happy to bake in the Australian sun as the film’s stars swam around Port Jackson Bay and debated what it means to be “hot girl fit.” In theaters, the movie over-performed and grossed more than $200 million worldwide, and now on Netflix it’s soared to the top of the movie viewing chart around the world.
It turns out folks love an old-fashioned romantic comedy (surprise) when the leads are attractive and the jokes land. And even when some jokes do not land, the structure of Anyone But You’s story is sound. Indeed, its tale about two one-night stand exes who insist they hate each...

A certain actor has been taking over Hollywood as of late, and his name is Glen Powell.
The actor, hailing from Austin, Texas, has a long list of credits to his name, with various appearances on television series over the years. But, he reached movie star status after starring in two of the biggest films of the last two years.
Both Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone but You were bonafide commercial hits, but they are far from the only series and movies of Mr. Powell's you'll want to add to your must-watch list.
Powell's acting career started with a small role in Spy Kids 3-D Game, and a few years later, he went on to star in The Great Debaters alongside Hollywood heavy hitters Forest Whitaker and Denzel Washington, who also directed it.
More roles would follow that, including guest stints on CSI: Miami, Rizzoli & Isles, and NCIS.

Anyone But You is getting a lot of attention from fans and especially industry specialists who are now just finding out that rom-coms can still make money at the box office. While the raunchy romantic comedy by the director Will Gluck (Friends with Benefits) isn’t exactly a masterpiece or an instant classic, it gives the viewers some much-deserved escape and a fun story, that they don’t have to wear 3D glasses for.
Starring Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), Anyone But You revolves around Ben and Bea, who meet each other by chance and have an amazing first date unfortunately that doesn’t last long, and both of them part ways but the kicker comes when after some time both of them unexpectedly find themselves at a destination wedding in Australia, and because of unexpected circumstances they decide to pretend to be a couple.

The promotional tour for Anyone But You dove headfirst into the game, matching, if not surpassing, the excitement of the iconic Barbie campaign. Despite its straightforward approach, the tactics wielded proved exceptionally effective.

Fake identities, false pretenses, and romance under potentially deadly (and illegal) circumstances, Netflix's upcoming release is going to be a good one, and it's already got the ratings to prove it.

Glen Powell brings the character and his many alter egos to life in a hilarious and entertaining way, leading the story as the unassuming undercover hero until he meets his match.

"Anyone But You" became a surprise hit when it arrived in theaters back in December 2023. In an age where everyone is used to superhero movies and the odd horror flick doing well at the box office, surely a rom-com starring two lesser-known stars whose careers are only just starting to get going wasn't going to hit? But hit, it did. "Anyone But You" passed box office milestones, making an impressive $216 million worldwide on just a $25 million budget. Oh, and it was also based on a William Shakespeare play.
It might seem strange to think that a loose adaptation of the Bard's "Much Ado About Nothing," could be so surprisingly popular, but perhaps "Anyone But You" is ushering in a new era of cool Shakespeare adaptations, á la Leonardo DiCaprio with "Romeo + Juliet" back in the mid-'90s. On April 11, CBS saved S.W.A.T. from cancellation, for the second time no less.
This reprieve came after three characters had already been written out this season. And additional exits may be coming, as it was hinted that Commander Hicks might be departing to take care of his ailing lover on S.W.A.T. Season 7 Episode 9.
So, who exactly will be in the 20 Squad returning for S.W.A.T. Season 8? Hondo, Powell, the new guy who replaced Street, and who else?
Ah, well, that's a problem for the series' showrunner and writers this summer. At least salaries for lesser-known actors should be less of a bite on the budget.
One side effect of this surprise rescue of S.W.A.T. is that Blue Bloods fans want their show, now in its 14th and supposedly final season, saved as well.
First off, let's remember it's a bad time to be a scripted network series. Just ask fans of Station 19, The Good Doctor,...

Sydney Sweeney became a successful producer at a young age when she co-produced her smash hit rom-com Anyone But You. The actress proved her business savvy by crafting a highly specialized marketing campaign for the film. This unexpectedly included reportedly deliberately teasing the public regarding linkup rumors with co-star Glen Powell.
It was a bold strategy built upon months of rumors swirling around Sweeney and Powell. Social media was agog with speculations, even in the months following the release of the movie. Much digital ink was spilled dissecting the interactions between the stars during promos and in behind-the-scenes features. In the end the tactic paid off, and the marketing team behind the movie proved they knew what they were doing with the film’s publicity campaign.

There’s clever marketing, and then there’s Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney’s ingenious strategy for drumming up more interest in their romantic comedy, Anyone But You, by leading the world into thinking they’re having an off-screen relationship. Speaking with The New York Times about the success of the couple’s comedic smash hit, which earned $219 million at the worldwide box office, Powell says he and Sweeney leaned into the rumors to bring attention to their film, and it worked like a charm.
“The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry,” Powell told The New York Times. “Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry. That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.

Despite the film’s success, some people have pointed out some overdone and cringy scenes in the film. Being a loose adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, the film’s director Will Gluck addressed the criticisms and pointed out that all those ‘cringy’ tropes and scenes are directly lifted from Shakespeare’s writing.
