Kamala Khan is a superhero fan with an imagination, particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel; Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home, that is until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s looked up to.
Even though the wildly popular Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is full of comedy, heart, and emotion, one thing it is severely lacking in is more coming-of-age-style stories. The killer in AMC+’s new drama Ragdoll attracts the attention of the London police through a particularly gruesome Mo: He has fabricated and carefully positioned a murder victim cobbled together from the bits and pieces of six murder victims, leaving the authorities to solve a half-dozen killings while at the same time trying to work their way through a kill list of six future targets.
It’s one of those head-scratching things where, after watching three episodes of Ragdoll, I’m truly not sure if Freddy Syborn (Killing Eve), adapting Ragdoll from the novel of the same name by Daniel Cole, recognizes that ...

Lucy Hale says she’s been preparing for a series like AMC’s upcoming crime show Ragdoll her whole life.
“I’m the first girl to listen any true crime podcast or to watch any of the crime shows,” Hale said during AMC’s TCA portion on Tuesday.
From listening and watching the horrors of true crime, Hale is now at the center of a horrifying web of murders in Ragdoll. Adapted for television by Freddy Syborn from Daniel Cole’s novel, the six-part series follows newly-reinstated DS Nathan Rose (Henry Lloyd-Hughes); his best friend and boss, Di Emily Baxter (Thalissa Teixeira); and the unit’s new recruit, DC Lake Edmunds (Hale) as they unravel the mystery behind the six people who have been murdered, dismembered and sewn into the shape of one grotesque body — nicknamed the ‘Ragdoll.’ The team must find the ‘Ragdoll Killer’ before he murders the victims for his next gruesome creation.

“Ragdoll,” the new AMC-Alibi thriller starring Lucy Hale (“Pretty Little Liars”), has started production in London, Variety has learned.
Hale plays DC Lake Edmunds, a new recruit at the London Metropolitan Police, who is tasked with investigating a murderer known as the “Ragdoll Killer”. She is joined by Henry Lloyd-Hughes (“The Irregulars”) as DS Nathan Rose and Thalissa Teixeira (“Anne Boleyn”) as Di Emily Baxter.
As the case develops, the trio come under increasing public scrutiny, especially when the killer — whose modus operandi involves murdering and dismembering his victims before sewing them back together in the shape of one grotesque body — begins taunting Edmunds and her colleagues by sending them a list of his intended victims, which includes Rose.
Shooting started at the end of April and has continued through May in central London.

It was a big day for AMC at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
The event was virtual, which has become the norm in the industry due to the pandemic, but there was a wealth of news across the AMC Networks banner.
AMC dropped our first trailer of Kevin Can F**k Himself, featuring Schitt's Creek's Annie Murphy, and it did not disappoint.
Kevin Can F*** Himself probes the secret life of a type of woman we all grew up believing we knew: the sitcom wife.
Kevin Can F*** Himself looks to break television convention and ask what the world looks like through her eyes.
Alternating between single-camera realism and multi-camera comedy, the formats will inform one another as we imagine what happens when the sitcom wife escapes her confines and takes the lead in her own life.

Though when invited onto the set of Toby MacDonald’s boarding school set romantic comedy Old Boys, we had anticipated a Hogwarts like journey into the depths of the English countryside, instead we had to suspend our disbelief somewhat, as we head right into the centre of London, at the old Central St. Martin’s art college, a now unused, rather derelict building that is perfect for shooting movies.
The film’s affable, affectionate tone was more than evident during our afternoon there, as there was a positive spirit in the air, and a bunch of easy going young actors all seemingly enjoying themselves. We had the pleasure on set to grab a very quick chat with the film’s leading star Alex Lawther, who plays Amberson; a downtrodden, nerdy kid who has a creative spark within him. In what is a loose adaptation of the famous French tale Cyrano de Bergerac,...

We’ve seen so many screen variations on the “Cyrano de Bergerac” story over the years that “Old Boys” can’t even claim to be the first to spin it as a high school comedy. But Toby MacDonald’s sweet, puppyish debut feature finds at least one twist to the tale that renders it both appealing and, in its own dippy way, lightly plausible: The young nerd creating romantic missives on behalf of the handsome dunce, in pursuit of a winsome French girl more mature than both boys combined, has scarcely more understanding than the other guy of life, love and what women want.
Set in an ultra-posh English boys’ boarding school, where masculinity is at once fragile and boorishly vocal, MacDonald’s film blends heightened, era-fudging nostalgia with a blacker strain of farce and class satire. If the combination doesn’t always fly, the film’s scrappy visual ingenuity...

Four films, including the latest projects from Amma Asante, Mike Leigh and Lynne Ramsay, were granted more than £1m in production funding in 2016.
Four films received more than £1m in production funding through the BFI Film Fund this year, with Mike Leigh’s anticipated Peterloo drama leading the way with an award of £1.46m.
The BFI backed around 30 projects with production funding up until December 15. Since launching the BFI Film Fund six years ago, the organisation’s biggest single production grant remains the £2m awarded to Aardman and Studiocanal’s animation Early Man in 2015.
The ten biggest awards of 2016:
1. Peterloo (£1,461,000)
Mike Leigh’s Peterloo massacre drama is set to depict the protest of more than 60,000 people for parliamentary reform in 1819 and the death of 15 protesters who were charged down by British cavalry troops. Dick Pope, the director’s frequent collaborator, will be the cinematographer for the film, while Georgina Lowe will be executive producer after performing...

It follows The Inbetweeners and Mrs Brown’s Boys on to the big screen, but does little to convince that it’s more than cheap tat looking to turn a tidy profit
The TV-derived summertime special has again become a fixture of the British film industry, as it was in the heyday of Please Sir! The Bad Education Movie, an end-of-term runout for Jack Whitehall’s delinquent teacher Alfie Wickers, opens in roughly the same slot in which The Inbetweeners and Mrs Brown’s Boys spin-offs profited in previous years. The numbers on those films amply bear out the rationale that putting any cheap tat in enough cinemas will turn a tidy profit; here, then, is one last jolly for Class K before they collect their exam results, and Whitehall becomes a blip on the Hollywood radar.
The school’s-out vibe generates a truly obnoxious first half-hour: you sense Whitehall...

Harry Enfield, Mathew Horne and Sarah Solemani all reprise their roles from the sitcom, alongside the pupils played by Ethan Lawrence, Layton Williams, Nikki Runeckles, Kae Alexander, Weruche Opia, Jack Binstead and Charlie Wernham.
Jeremy Irvine, Joanna Scanlan, Talulah Riley and The Wire's Clarke Peters are all new additions to the cast.

Jack Whitehall brings Bad Education to the big screen in The Bad Education Movie. Here's the first trailer...
The last British comedy show that picked itself a prime August release slot on its way to UK cinemas was The Inbetweeners Movie, and its sequel. Both made huge amounts of money, both landed in the top ten films of the year at the British box office, and both are regularly respun on home formats. The money is still coming in.
High hopes, then, for The Bad Education Movie, based on the hit comedy show of almost the same name. Jack Whitehall stars, reprising the role of Alfie Wickers, and the cast includes Jeremy Irvine, Joanna Scanlan, Talulah Riley, Harry Enfield, Matthew Horne and Sarah Selomani.
Elliot Hegarty is directing, with Whitehall and Freddy Syborn penning the script. Here's the first trailer...

Jack Whitehall is a badass teacher in the first trailer for The Bad Education Movie.
Alfie Wickers and his tearaway pupils are back for a big-screen version of the hit BBC comedy, which arrives in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on Friday, August 21.
In the trailer, Alfie is itching to take his class for one last trip away together after completing their exams - but soon comes up against opposition from disgruntled parents who don't think he's an appropriate role model.
In response, he resolves to take the students "on a holiday that's so bats**t mental that if it was a movie, everyone would be played by Nicolas Cage", and they soon tear up Cornwall, raising havoc, insulting the locals and upsetting the resident wildlife.

Filming is underway in Cornwall on a full-length spin-off film from the bit BBC Three sitcom Bad Education, starring comedian Jack Whitehall back in the role of Alfie Wickers, "the worst teacher ever to grace the British education system".

The feature-length, more expensive and extra-expansive movie version of Bad Education started shooting on February 24rd, and I have just been sent the first image from the set. You can see it in full below.
Like episodes of the TV show, the movie has been written by Jack Whitehall and Freddy Syborn and directed by Elliot Hegarty. The same cast are on board too, with Whitehall, the kids, Sarah Solemani and Harry Enfield all appearing.
And in the tradition of sitcoms-turned-movies, the story is about a trip of some kind. In this case, the cast decamp to Cornwall – less expensive than The Inbetweeners’ Magaluf, perhaps, and certainly less glitzy than Sex and the City 2’s Dubai, but somewhere I’d far rather go on my holidays.
All we know of the plot so far is that it’s about a nightmare school trip staged as “one last hurrah” for...

Exclusive- Entertainment Film Distributors is in early talks to board the feature adaptation of hit Brit TV comedy series Bad Education, Deadline understands.
The project, which has not yet been greenlit, is being produced by Ben Cavey, with Elliot Hegarty (The Middle) directing and Freddy Syborn and Jack Whitehall writing. Whitehall is also set to reprise his role as the role of Alfie, arguably the worst teacher to ever grace the British education system.
The series, which produced by Endemol-owned Tiger Aspect Pictures, was a popular show for BBC 3 and broke the record for the highest-rated first episode of a comedy on the channel when it debuted in 2013.
Entertainment will no doubt be hoping to recreate the success the company enjoyed with the similar small to big screen adaptation of The Inbetweeners. The first feature instalment was a box office phenomenon in the UK, where it grossed over $70 million in...

ITV2 has commissioned a new sitcom from Bad Education writer Freddy Syborn.
Cockroaches will be a post-apocalyptic romantic comedy starring Daniel Lawrence Taylor (Uncle) and Esther Smith (Skins).
The pair play Tom and Suze, two 19-year-olds hoping for a better future, before nuclear war hits. With the world about to end, they have sex, but unexpectedly survive the apocalypse.
Ten years later, the pair return from Suze's basement as 29-year-olds searching for the remnants of pre-war England.
The comedy will deal with what happens after a nuclear holocaust, including boredom, laziness, relationships, money, cannibalism and leadership.
Nigel Planer, Jaime Winstone, Caroline Quentin, Dan Renton Skinner, Sarah Daykin and Tom Davis will also make appearances.
Jack Whitehall will also cameo as Oscar, the irritating ex-boyfriend of Suze.
Angela Jain, Director of Digital Channels and Acquisitions for ITV, said: "I never thought I'd be happy to say we have Cockroaches at ITV...
