Democratic political consultants have some advice if you’d prefer not to have companies track your every move and sell that data to campaigns: avoid mobile games like Candy Crush.
“Political campaigns are a perfect microcosm of the data economy,” Raffi Krikorian, the host of the Technically Optimistic podcast tells Rolling Stone. “You have data brokers who are gonna sell you information, so I can create a model of who I should persuade and turn out and an election. How does that data flow? Where did the data brokers get all this information?...

Hill, who starred as King Théoden in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, was scheduled to appear at Liverpool Comic Con over the weekend, but pulled out of the event Friday.
“We love him. He was intrepid, he was funny, he was gruff, he was irascible, he was beautiful,” said Astin, who portrays Samwise Gamgee, onstage at the London event.
Billy Boyd, who plays Pippin, added: “We were watching the movies and I said to Dom, I don’t think anyone spoke Tolkien’s words as great as Bernard did.

In the years of Priscilla Presley’s relationship with Elvis Presley, she dealt with constant, well-placed concerns about his infidelity. When they first started dating, Elvis’ girlfriend, Anita Wood, had the same concerns. She was aware that Elvis had met someone in Germany, and that this girl was sending letters to her boyfriend. Elvis told her that she had nothing to worry about, though.
Elvis told Anita Wood that Priscilla Presley shouldn’t concern her
When Elvis left for Germany with the army, he was dating Wood. They continued their relationship when he returned to the United States, after he met and began pursuing Priscilla. Wood discovered this after finding a letter from Priscilla.
“In the letter there was something to the effect of — ‘You need to call my daddy and talk him into letting me come over. I want to come really bad,’” Wood recalled, per the book Careless...

Roku CEO Anthony Wood collected a total pay package of $20.2 million in 2023, according to the company’s latest proxy filing.
Charlie Collier, the veteran former TV exec who now leads Roku Media, got $6.8 million. The tally was far below the $53.3 million he took home in 2022, with the bulk of that payday coming in the form of stock options and a stock award vesting over four years. Collier left his previous role as CEO of Fox Entertainment to join Roku in September 2022. Among his duties at the streaming provider is overseeing the company’s roster of original programming, with breakout titles including the recent series Spiderwick Chronicles.
Wood made a base salary of $1.2 million, with the rest primarily consisting of stock and options awards.
CFO Dan Jedda, who joined the company last May, received a total of about $18 million. Steve Loudon, his predecessor, got $7.8 million for a partial year of service,...

Roku devices have the ability to reach 120 million people each day, and the company wants to use that opportunity to deliver more ads.
Roku wants to take the term “ad-supported” to another level. The company held its quarterly earnings conference call on Thursday, and revealed that 81.6 million households used a Roku device or smart TV to stream video in the first three months of the year. As part of the report, company CEO Anthony Wood laid out ideas for how the company would increase revenues in 2024. Unsurprisingly, advertising will be an important centerpiece of that strategy, and Wood provided some details on what Roku users can expect from their ad experience going forward.
Key Facts: Roku wants to embed video ads on its home screen, similar to the autoplay ads that came to Fire TVs in 2023. Home screen experiences can also be used to deliver more customized ads to viewers.

In the Wizarding World, Quidditch is just as popular among the wand-bearing parts of the British population as soccer among its Muggle parts. Wizards are going crazy about their favorite Quidditch players, and this game is even officially played at Hogwarts, being the only sport that actively influences the school’s schedule.
Students love to watch and play Quidditch. Quidditch matters so much, in fact, that it’s impossible to delay — even if a player’s life is in obvious danger.
In Hogwarts, Quidditch Matters the Most
Seriously, Hogwarts just doesn’t ever delay its Quidditch games. A couple of times, we see the teams forced to play in a literal storm, and they don’t get a choice. The audience, too, has to sit there under bucketloads of falling water, cheering up their fellow students. No weather is too bad to play Quidditch — sounds like Wood, right?

After a dramatic exit from The Daily Show late last year, at least one piece of Roy Wood Jr.’s next act is coming into focus.
Deadline reports the comedian and former Tds correspondent has joined the cast of Jonah Hill’s new movie “Outcome.” The Apple Studios dark comedy, directed and co-written by Hill, will star Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer, and Hill himself.
It was last October that Wood announced he was leaving The Daily Show, where he had served as a correspondent since 2015. The move came as Tds continued its long process of finding a new permanent host to replace Trevor Noah, who left in 2022.
Explaining his departure in a recent interview with fellow Daily Show alum Samantha Bee, Wood stated that he’d lost faith that there were any paths to success left for a show that didn’t have a plan amid an industry that’s in crisis.

If anyone in Hollywood knows The Beatles‘ songs, it’s Evan Rachel Wood. She was in one of the biggest Beatles movies. She named her favorite Beatles song and named some others that might have influenced Radiohead.
Evan Rachel Wood’s favorite Beatles song that was in her movie ‘Across the Universe’
Wood’s first major movie role was as Lucy (get it?) in the Fab Four jukebox musical Across the Universe. One of the most famous musical numbers in the movie is a hallucinogenic staging of “Happiness Is a Warm Gun.” During a 2007 interview with The News-Times, Wood was asked to pick her favorite Beatles songs.
“It’s hard, because it depends on where you are in your life and what day it is, because they really covered everything,” she replied. “So right now, hmm, recently, I would sing ‘Happiness Is a Warm Gun.’ I got into that because of Across the Universe.

A Stephen King horror story about a malevolent (sort of) doll almost sounds like something that could've been written specifically for James Wan to turn into a movie. But while the filmmaker behind "Saw," "Insidious," "The Conjuring," and "Malignant" is indeed involved in adapting "The Monkey" -- a short story King wrote for Gallery magazine in 1980 before later including it in his 1985 collection "Skeleton Crew" -- for the screen, he's only lending his services as a producer.
Instead, "The Monkey" is being written and directed by Osgood "Oz" Perkins, son of "Psycho" actor Anthony Perkins and the mind behind such creepily atmospheric and inventively stylized horror pictures as "The Blackcoat's Daughter," "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House," and "Gretel & Hansel". Osgood Perkins is also currently riding high thanks to the buzz around "Longlegs," his upcoming occult serial killer horror-thriller that boasts one of the most intriguing trailers in recent memory.

Almost a year has gone by since it was announced that Theo James of The White Lotus had signed on to star in a Stephen King adaptation called The Monkey, coming from the team of producer / genre regular James Wan and director Osgood Perkins, whose credits include The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, Gretel & Hansel, and the upcoming Nicolas Cage horror film Longlegs. Longlegs won’t be reaching theatres until July 12th, but Deadline reports that filming on The Monkey has already wrapped. Their report also revealed the names of several cast members who will be sharing the screen with James: Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Tatiana Maslany (She–Hulk: Attorney at Law), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), Colin O’Brien (Wonka), Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends), and Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek).

A number of major names from the U.K. film and TV world and beyond have donated items — and their own time — to an auction raising money for Gaza.
Organized by Cinema for Gaza in support of Medical Aid for Palestinians, the auction has drawn in gifts from likes of Tilda Swinton, Ken Loach, Asia Kapadia, Ramy Youssef, Peter Capaldi, Imelda Staunton, Brian Cox, Joseph Quinn, Mike Leigh, Misan Harriman, Joanna Hogg, Aimee Lou Wood and Josh O’Connor.
Among the lots up for grabs when the auction goes live on April 2 is the chance to have Swinton “read you a soothing bedtime story over Zoom,” a porridge masterclass with O’Connor who will “teach you how to make the perfect bowl” (and apparently get a glimpse of his secret porridge recipe), a chat about astrology with “Sex Education” star Wood, a “restorative drink” with “Saltburn’s” Oliver, and tickets to...

It was five months ago that Roy Wood Jr. announced he was leaving The Daily Show after serving as a correspondent at the show for eight years.
Arguably the show’s highest profile correspondent (he had just won rave reviews after hosting the White Correspondents Dinner earlier in 2023), Wood’s departure was yet another blow to The Daily Show following a year of instability that began with former host Trevor Noah’s own abrupt departure in late 2022. A parade of guest hosts followed, then came the Writers Strike, and then–we later learned–after producers told staffers that Comedy Central was finally moving ahead with a new host (Hasan Minhaj), that decision was reversed.
Now Wood is speaking out. In a candid new interview with fellow Daily Show alum Samantha Bee on her podcast Choice Words, Wood described his decision to leave in binary terms:

McKenna Grace reprises her lead role as Phoebe in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” which led the weekend box office with $45 million. At 17 she is not yet a household name, but she laid some groundwork early: At age six she had a supporting role on the Disney Channel sitcom “Crash & Bernstein.” Later she received an Emmy nomination for her work in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and portrayed the younger selves for the leads in movies like “I, Tonya” and “Captain Marvel.”
Her “Ghostbusters” co-star is Finn Wolfhard, who made his debut at 13 in CW’s “Supernatural” before starring in “Stranger Things” and “It.” Zendaya, star of “Dune: Part Two,” got her start as a Disney Channel regular. Her co-star, Oscar-nominated Austin Butler, cut his teeth at Nickelodeon.

The Beatles‘ movies contain some of the most unexpected sequences in the history of movie musicals. For example, one of them includes a musical number shot underwater. An actor from the movie explained how that moment came together behind the scenes. The moment in question could have become a lot more risque.
A Beatles movie took on all the band’s eras
Director Julie Taymor’s Across the Universe is a jukebox musical based on the tunes of the Fab Four. It features all of the band’s most famous songs, like “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “Something,” and “Let It Be,” along with more obscure tracks like “I Am the Walrus,” “Girl,” and “Because.” The “Because” is one of the most famous scenes in the movie, as it features actors performing the song underwater.

Cinema history is full of missed opportunities. For example, a Beatles movie almost featured David Bowie as a character from a Beatles song. Instead, a famous comedian got the role. A member of the film’s cast revealed what she thought about this development.
David Bowie almost played Mr. Kite in a Beatles movie
Across the Universe is a Fab Four jukebox musical set in a heightened version of the 1960s. Several characters in the movie are named after figures from Beatles songs, including Jude, Lucy, Maxwell, Sexy Sadie, and Mr. Kite.
During a 2018 interview with Vulture, director Julie Taymor discussed the role of Mr. Kite. “We rehearsed it like a normal musical in theater … and it bonded everybody,” he said. “I’ll never forget [star] Evan [Rachel Wood] walking in the hallways with this Bowie T-shirt, because at one point we’d asked David Bowie if he was going to play Mr.

It’s natural that, while you may want to stay on the cutting edge of prestige TV drama and join in all those “How great is Shogun?!” conversations of the moment, there are also times when the world makes you want to shrink down to the size of a Subbuteo player, step into a book illustration from a copy of Thumbelina you owned as a child, and go to sleep underneath a single feather inside a walnut shell.
Those walnut shell moments demand a TV accompaniment that isn’t noisy or confrontational. There should be no difficult thoughts there, just a gentle tide of ‘everything’s okay-ness’ lapping at your brain’s shore. These British TV shows all provide exactly that sense of comfort. The Lord of the Rings co-stars Elijah Wood and Sean Astin reunited onstage Saturday at the 2024 SAG Awards. And that’s where Wood learned about a missing trophy.
The two, who played hobbits Frodo and Sam in Peter Jackson’s Lotr movie trilogy, were on stage to present the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role. That went to Da’Vine Joy Randolph for her role in The Holdovers.
Before that, Wood and Astin remarked on time’s passing after a clip was played of Astin accepting the Best Film Ensemble win at the 2004 SAG Awards for The Lord Of the Rings: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King while noting the absence of fellow stars Wood and Viggo Mortensen.
“How’s it been 20 years?” Wood asked Astin, who replied, “It’s been 20 years and yet I’m sorry you couldn’t be there that night.

The comparisons are sometimes amusing, sometimes revelatory,...
