Heston recites the Carl Sandburg poem "Chicago." --Mahalia Jackson (gospel singer) sings "How Great Thou Art" to group of children. --Benny Goodman (clarinetist) - "Running Wild" and, at the Art Institute, plays with Chicago's Fine Arts String Quartet. --Bob Newhart (stand-up comedy routine: school for bus drivers,Chicago) Segment probably filmed at Loyola University. --Edgar Bergen (ventriloquist, with Charlie McCarthy) - Bergen wears a Viking helmet while they tell a story about the Vikings. --Delores Gray (musical-comedy star) - "Alexander's Ragtime Band" --The Swe-Danes (vocal-instrumental trio) - "The Swe-Dane Shuffle" and "Cukoo Bird" -- Medinan Black Horse Troop (Black Horse Guards) - equestrian troupe ride in a formation parade. Throughout the program Sullivan visits different Chicago sites: Ed walks through O'Hare Airport and shows footage of Butch O'Hare in Navy plane; Hull House; Colorado Cowboys at Stock Yard; footage of Johnny Weismuller at swimming pool; the Chicago water tower shown; Ed talks about the 1871 Chicago fire; aerial footage of stock yards; livestock auction; and the Chicago Art Institute.

Rowan and Martin do a hotel skit. Teresa Brewer does a World War I medley of "Smile, Smile, Smile", "Till We Meet Again", "Over There", "My Buddy" and "How Ya Gonna Keep 'em Down on the Farm". Later she also sings Bidin' My Time, from her recent album. Louis Armstrong performs with his band.
