If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

The late 1990s had an odd fascination with the Devil and the end of days that gave audiences all kinds of crazy films with varied levels of success. Most of these seemed to come out right around 1999, the end of the millennium when people were starting to panic. However, some of these end of days films came out earlier and set the trend. 1997 was an odd year that saw the release of Dante’s Peak, The Devil’s Own, Volcano, the original Open Your Eyes, Seven Years in Tibet, and a bunch more. There was a trend for the end of days, but also a search for religion which then led to the perfect storm of both with The Devil’s Advocate (watch it Here), a bit end of days, a bit of religious mayhem, and a whole lot of cautionary tale.

It seems like just last month Netflix was releasing the long-awaited fourth season of its stalker drama You. And that’s because it was just last month that Netflix released You Season 4! Now, with its list of new releases for March 2023, Netflix is finishing off what it started with You Season 4 Part 2.
The five episodes that make up You Season 4 Part 2 will premiere on March 9. The ending of Part 1 left things off on quite the cliffhanger so soon we will get to see how Joe (Penn Badgley) reacts to the reveal of the other serial killer in his orbit. Netflix is premiering a fresh season of another one of its TV hits this month as well with Shadow and Bone Season 2 premiering on March 16.

March is a time for madness, whether it comes from basketball, Mercury retrograde, or a person’s home streaming habits. Netflix joins in on the chaos by updating its library with all three “Hangover” movies, a whole lot of workout content, “Magic Mike Xxl,” and much, much more.
On March 9, the streamer will premiere Part 2 of “You” Season 2, starring Penn Badgley, Charlotte Ritchie, and Ed Speleers. The five remaining episodes find Joe (Badgley) trapped in a volatile dance with London mayoral candidate and serial killer Rhys (Speleers), trying to prevent more murders but also not go down for the many he’s committed in the process. The trailer shows Joe and Kate (Ritchie) growing closer, more brushes with Kate’s wealthy socialite friends, and the return of Victoria Pedretti as Joe’s wife Love — or maybe the ghost of his wife, and of sins past.

Horror has always been one of the most controversial film genres. From the silent frights of "Nosferatu" to Wes Craven's 1970s shockers, horror films are the harbingers of moral panic and audience debate. Though American horror films have spurred plenty of moral outrage on our shores, it's not common for films to be banned outright in the United States. However, that doesn't mean that American horror films receive the same reception in other counties.
Countries have specific rules regarding censorship and movie ratings, leading some to ban certain American horror films for violating federal guidelines. Horror movies tend to be the most censored genre because of their depiction of violence (as well as sex and nudity), making some horror films unsuitable for viewing due to their explicit depictions of depravity. Censorship like this comes from ethical debates about whether or not pop culture influences the masses: Can violent movies make people more violent?...

After almost three absurdly long years, “Stranger Things” Season 4 is just around the corner. A tentpole series for Netflix — at a whopping production cost of reportedly 30 million per episode — the fan-favorite sci-fi show that launched its young adult cast, led by Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard, into superstardom will be dropping new episodes May 27.
And, according to the Emmy-winning series’ executive producer Shawn Levy, it’s going to be “harrowing,” “cinematic” and “epic.” He told TheWrap in a recent interview, “This is so much more story and runtime than ever before, not by a little. By a lot.”
The last month of spring will also see the return of reality series titles like “The Circle” — a social media-driven competition series where players catfish, befriend and flirt with each other with the aim of winning a grand cash prize — and “Bling Empire” — which centers on a group of uber-wealthy Asian American friends in Beverly Hills.

There are diverse streaming releases slates and then there is Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2022. There are no big franchises here, no big themes – just a whole bunch of original and library titles for everyone to enjoy.
Hulu’s major original releases in May come in the middle of the month. Candy premieres on May 9 and stars Jessica Biel as your friendly neighborhood axe murderer. If that sounds a bit outlandish, bear in mind that this limited series is based on the real life story of Candy Montgomery and her victim, the tragically named Betty Gore. On May 15, Hulu will play host to Conversations with Friends. This is the latest adaptation of the works of Sally Rooney. After the breakaway success of Normal People, Hulu is undoubtedly hoping for more lightning in a bottle.

As the undisputed king of streaming (for now at least), Netflix has enjoyed the presence of some major blockbusters. Now, with its list of new releases for May 2022, Netflix is bringing back one of its biggest ever hits.
Stranger Things season 4 “volume one” is set to premiere on May 27. It’s been a long wait for new episodes of this ’80s-tinged sci-fi/horror series and based on the trailers, the wait will have been well worth it. In this go-around, the kids of Hawkins (now high schoolers) will have to contend with the Upside Down once again to go along with the horrors of the Creel House.
While Stranger Things is the biggest Netflix original this month, it’s far from the only one. Mike Myers’ latest series The Pentaverate premieres on May 5 (fittingly: 5/5). Meanwhile The Lincoln Lawyer is set to arrive on May 13 followed by Love, Death & Robots Volume...

There have been plenty of dodgy British accents by American actors down the years, from Dick van Dyke's Cockney chimney sweep in "Mary Poppins" to Robert Downey Jr's bizarre take on Welsh in "Dolittle." Brad Pitt chipped in with his attempt at a Norn Iron accent in "The Devil's Own," which the Belfast Telegraph ranked among the worst Irish accents in film history. We all know Pitt loves an accent — that was the same year he also hinted at Austrian in "Seven Years in Tibet," convincing absolutely nobody.

“The Matrix Resurrections” has breathed new life into a political debate.
On January 27, Chinese nationalists threatened to boycott the fourth installment of the “Matrix” franchise after star Keanu Reeves joined the Tibet House U.S. Benefit Concert in March.
“Resurrections,” which had its U.S. premiere December 18, has already grossed $12.3 million after a 14-day release in China, according to Endata (via Variety).
“How can Keanu Reeves not understand this and take part in a pro-Tibet independence concert?” CHINAD8, an account on Chinese social media site Weibo, posted January 21. “Aren’t these celebrities afraid of losing the China market?”
The backlash from Chinese patriots, who collectively identify as “little pinks,” could potentially impact the box office numbers in China.
“The film [‘The Matrix Resurrections’] can be taken down now,” another Weibo user wrote. “Get out of the Chinese market, thank you.”

Chinese nationalists are threatening to boycott the recently-released sci-fi blockbuster “The Matrix: Resurrections” as news about its star Keanu Reeves joining the Tibet House U.S. Benefit Concert in March spread across mainland China social media.
The backlash from angry Chinese patriots known as “little pinks,” the term for an informal army of young nationalists who often make “wolf warrior” style of pro-Beijing, anti-foreign comments, could finish off the box office run of the fourth instalment of “The Matrix” series.
Its performance has already been mediocre and it will likely be sidelined from Tuesday next week when eight major Chinese titles open in time for Lunar New Year holidays. Figures from Endata show that the film has grossed RMB78 million ($12.3 million) after a 14-day release.

David Fincher’s classic “Fight Club” has been given a different ending in China, where it’s now available on Tencent Video. The story of exactly how the new version came about is unsurprisingly murky, but it does provide something of a win-win situation for all parties.
In the 1999 original, Edward Norton’s narrator character kills off his alter ego Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) before watching buildings burst into flames in apparent confirmation that his plan to destroy modern civilization is being executed.
The version now playing on China’s largest video streamer, which is home to the country’s biggest selection of imported films, stops before the buildings explode. The final action is instead replaced with an English-language title card explaining that the anarchic plot was foiled by the authorities.
“The police rapidly figured out the whole plan and arrested all criminals, successfully preventing the bomb from exploding. After the trial,...

A day that Attorney General William Barr, Sen. “Beijing has sent a clear message to the filmmaking world, that filmmakers who criticize China will be punished, but that those who play ball with its censorship strictures will be rewarded,” proclaims the hard hitting “Made in Hollywood, Censored by Beijing” report in language echoing recent strident statements by America’s top law enforcement official and the Texas GOP Senator (Read It Here). “The Chinese Communist Party, in fact, holds major sway over whether a Hollywood movie will be profitable or not — and studio executives know it,” the 94-page document adds in no small understatement as...

Since 2017, and the tribute Five Flavours did to Bhutanese cinema, the country’s films have found a number of ways to reach audiences outside the nation, letting the world stage get to know the work of directors like Dechen Roder and Khyentse Norbu. This time it was Jamyang Jamtsho Wangchuk’s turn (an actor who appeared in “Seven Years in Tibet” and “Honeygiver Among the Dogs)” to present his second directorial work after “Gyalsey: Legacy of a Prince”.

We’ve all heard that before Keanu Reeves was cast in the role of Neo in The Matrix that the producers wanted Will Smith. Smith turned down the role because it was just too weird for him.
Well, Smith isn’t the only person they were looking at casting before Reeves was cast. According to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, they also wanted to cast Sandra Bullock in the role! She starred alongside Reeves a few years prior in Speed.
She was one of a few A-list actors that were considered for the role. Some of those other actors included Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. The producer told The Wrap that they would have changed Neo from a male to a female for her if she wanted it:
“We went out to so many people I don’t remember. We were getting desperate. We went to Sandy Bullock and said ‘We...

The producers of The Matrix offered to gender-flip the role of Neo to get the actress locked down.
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock had a hit on their hands in 1994 with Jan de Bont's "bomb on a bus" outing, Speed. The movie grossed over $350 million off a $30 million budget, and generated a sequel, which Reeves wisely chose to eschew involvement in. Five years later, he had another low-ish budget hit with The Matrix, which made a terrific profit and spawned two sequels through Warner Bros.
But there was a deeper link between Speed and The Matrix than just Reeves at his action best - The Wrap has a new interview with Matrix producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who's revealed that way before Reeves was involved, they were desperately trying to cast Bullock as Neo in the Wachowskis groundbreaking sci-fi hit.

“The Matrix” is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month, and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura marked the occasion by revealing to The Wrap some of the names Warner Bros. wanted to cast in the lead role of Neo. Since Warner Bros. was taking a big risk by employing the Wachowski siblings, whose only previous film was the $6 million crime thriller “Bound,” the studio wanted to ensure interest in the project by casting a prominent A-list actor as Neo. The result was a casting wish list that included Sandra Bullock.
“We went out to so many people I don’t remember. We were getting desperate,” di Bonaventura told The Wrap. “We went to Sandy Bullock and said ‘We’ll change Neo to a girl.’ [Producer] Joel Silver and I worked with Sandy on ‘Demolition Man’ and she was and continues to be a very good friend of mine. Before Keanu Reeves landed the lead in “The Matrix,” the producers had such a hard time finding the right man for the role that they briefly considered a woman — and that woman was Sandra Bullock.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who fought to get “The Matrix” made at Warner Bros., said the studio insisted on a big name for the Wachowskis’ epic, especially since they had only one prior directing credit prior to their dense, philosophical masterpiece.
He said Bullock, who starred alongside Reeves just a few years earlier in 1994’s “Speed,” was one of several A-listers considered for the part, including Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith.

John Collee (l) with Anthony Maras.
John Collee is not only among Australia’s most successful screenwriters, his strike rate of scripts-to-screen is the envy of most of his peers.
The co-creator of Happy Feet, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Tanna and Hotel Mumbai, Collee estimates that one in every three or four feature scripts he’s written has been produced.
He’s not boasting but his batting average compares well to that of Guillermo del Toro. The writer-director of The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth and The Hobbit trilogy recently revealed on social media he had spent years developing 10 films which did not get made.
“Sometimes projects can be taken off you and written by someone else and your name is taken off then, but to have involvement in one of three films I’ve written is a pretty good record,” Collee tells If.

Don't bother telling us that Tilda Swinton isn't the lead in these new Netflix movies! She's always a leading lady. Tilda approaches the mic in Okja And War Machine. The rest is noise but for our worry that no movies with big stars will ever go theatrical again with Netflix around
War Machine premieres on May 26th and Okja premieres June 28th.
P.S. Is this a silver fox look on Brad Pitt or as blonde as Seven Years in Tibet (1997) or is this some mashup of the two?...

"You don't seem happy. I'm just worried about you." A trailer has debuted for a charming new film titled Kushuthara, a rare romantic drama from the tiny Himalayan country Bhutan. Historically, the Bhutanese film industry has looked east for inspiration, modelling itself on the films of Bollywood. Kushuthara is one of the first films to be made in a more western style, with a storyline that draws on Buddhist spirituality. Emrhys Cooper, the first western actor to appear in a Bhutanese film, stars with Kezang Wangmo, and Jamyang Jamtsho Wangchuck (who appeared in Seven Years in Tibet). The dialogue is very cheesy, but I must admit there's a charm to it that makes me want to see it anyway. Plus, I totally love the Himayalas. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Karma Deki's Kushuthara, direct from YouTube: One single thread, as if lost in the woven cloth, weaves together...

Bhutan has a population of less than one million people but nevertheless contains a thriving film industry. Though the Bhutanese film industry has largely looked east for inspiration, modeling itself on Bollywood, director Karma Deki has decided to adopt a more Western style with her new love story “Kushuthara: Pattern of Love,” the first Bhutanese film to star a western actor, and one that will receive a North American release.

Since 2010's Angelina Jolie-starring spy thriller "Salt" earned nearly $295 million worldwide, Sony predictably saw franchise potential as such. Few filmmakers have experienced such remarkable reversals of fortune while straddling the divide between Hollywood and China — the world's largest and second-largest film markets, respectively — as French director Jean-Jacques Annaud. After the release of his Brad Pitt-starring drama Seven Years in Tibet in 1997, Annaud was reportedly informed that he would be denied entry to China for the rest of his life because of official outrage over his portrayal of the politically sensitive topic of Tibet. Remarkably, Annaud was able to repair his relationship with the Chinese, returning to the country to shoot the period

Want to revisit "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" before "Terminator: Genisys" opens? Better do it before July 1, when Netflix says "Hasta la vista" to the 1991 sequel.
If you have a hankering to watch "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Moonstruck," "Cast Away," or "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," get on it, because those are also disappearing in July.
And start marathoning these TV classics before they go poof: "Leave it to Beaver," "Dragnet," "Mission: Impossible," "Hawaii Five-o," "Magnum P.I.," "Miami Vice," "Knight Rider," "Melrose Place" and "Wings." Also bid goodbye to the Stephen King miniseries "The Stand" (1994) and "The Langoliers" (1995).
Below is a complete list of the movies that Netflix is pulling from your streaming list. And, just so you're not left empty-handed, here's a list of what's new on Netflix in July 2015. (All titles and dates provided by Netflix and subject to change.)

For months now, rumors have been circulating (well…mostly overseas) about the jointly produced Franco-Chinese film, “Wolf Totem.” One of the biggest rumors was that legendary Hollywood composer James Horner would lend his talents to the film. That has now been confirmed. Based on Chinese novelist Jiang Rong’s semi-autobiographical 2004 novel, “Wolf Totem” tells the story of a young student, Chen Zhen (played by Shaofeng Feng), dispatched from Beijing to rural Mongolia with the task of educating herders. The film adaptation is directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, the helmer behind “Seven Years in Tibet,” “Enemy At the Gates,” and about ten other films since 1976. Annaud recently had the following to say to James Horner Film Music about the project: "I feel proud, so proud for the film. I was thrilled when I finished watching it in advance. (…) It will be touching, it will be about the harmony between humans and nature,...

Since breaking out over 20 years ago in "Thelma & Louise," Brad Pitt has been difficult to miss.
After landing his place in cinematic history as a hunky (and shirtless) criminal, Pitt's career blossomed with starring roles in critical and box office hits alike, such as "A River Runs Through It" (1992), "Seven" (1995), and "12 Monkeys" (1995) -- just to name a few. In the past two decades, Pitt has become one of Hollywood's biggest stars, but his role has expanded beyond just acting. In only the past few years, he's produced two Best Picture nominated films, "Moneyball" (2011) and "12 Years a Slave" (2013). This fall, he's back in front of the camera leading his battle-hardened platoon into Nazi Germany in "Fury."
From his early days in Missouri to his unlikely romances, here are 35 things you probably don't know about Brad Pitt.
1. Brad Pitt was born December 18, 1963 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Jane Hillhouse and William Pitt.
2. His mother was a school counselor,...

For this week’s spotlight piece, I wanted to take a look at one of Hollywood’s absolute bigger stars. He’s about as A-list as the A-list gets…the name? Well, Brad Pitt of course. Not only is he a movie star with all capital letters (Movie Star!) and a top tier celebrity, he’s also developed into one of the industry’s best and most interesting actors as well. Pitt is the type of star that doesn’t rest on his laurels and often seems to attach himself to challenging material, something that will win the man an acting Oscar one day (he already won his first one last year for helping to produce Best Picture winner 12 Years a Slave). As high as he’s soared already, the best could still be to come. Pitt got his noticeable start in the business (after some uncredited acting jobs on...
