M. Night Shyamalan hit the jackpot with his 1999 movie The Sixth Sense, which established him as a brand in suspense-thriller movies. While pitching the story to different studios, Shyamalan wanted them to fulfill a few of his conditions. The director knew that he was making a risky gamble since he was only known in the industry for writing a few spec scripts at the time. However, his gamble paid off as studios were fighting each other to bid for his film.

Some Hollywood stars not only shine on-screen but also radiate kindness off-screen. Keanu Reeves and Bruce Willis exemplify this. The Matrix star, who is known as the nicest guy in Hollywood, is also celebrated for showering his Matrix crew with thoughtful gifts.

M. Night Shyamalan's filmography has been uneven, but the director has always returned with a new hit after a failure, which in itself makes him a unique auteur. Several couples with their children come on vacation to a paradise island that ordinary people don't know about. The beach turns out to be amazing, but terrible things happen on it: first the tourists find the body of a girl, and then the children suddenly start to grow up by leaps and bounds. Time passes faster on this beach, and it is impossible to get out of here: any attempt to do so results in losing consciousness.

Usually, when it comes to M. Night Shyamalan’s movies, fans have to wait until the very end to figure out the twist. But this time it felt rather easy for netizens, as they seem to have cracked the code to his upcoming movie Trap. Starring Josh Hartnett in the lead role, the film recently dropped its first trailer at CinemaCon 2024, when people started pointing out the twist in the story.

The trailer showed Josh Hartnett and his teen daughter attending a concert when things start getting strange as the event turns out to be a setup to catch a serial killer on the loose named The Butcher. But shockingly, the trailer ended with a revelation that implied Hartnett was the serial killer. Considering how M. Hollywood stars Halle Berry and Bruce Willis have joined forces in various movies like Perfect Stranger and The Last Boy Scout. However, the actress has shared that she did not have a very pleasant experience working with the action star in their first film together, Tony Scott’s The Last Boy Scout.

The film follows Willis as a washed-up private investigator who teams up with a disgraced football star to uncover a potential conspiracy. Berry, who was still carving her path in the industry, portrayed the role of a stripper, Cory. And she later expressed feeling overlooked and unnoticed by her co-star.

The Crown, The Sixth Sense and The Father actress Olivia Williams has opened up about the “harrowing” time she spent on the set of Friends back in 1998. Williams appeared as a bridesmaid in the two-part season 4 finale of the iconic series, “The One with Ross’ Wedding.”
Recently queried about previous remarks she’d made regarding her stint on the show, Williams told The Independent, “Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman.’” The actor, whose name Williams did not recall, was “distinguished” and “very good,” but at one point, “a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. So that was alarming.”
Williams also told the newspaper, “Friends was a brand, and you had to fit the brand.

Olivia Williams has given acclaimed performances in “Rushmore,” “The Sixth Sense” and “An Education.” She recently appeared as Camilla Parker Bowles in the final two seasons of Netflix’s popular drama series “The Crown.” But for many people, the British actor will always be Felicity from the Season 4 finale of “Friends.” Williams once called guest starring on the NBC sitcom “harrowing,” and she recently opened up to The Independent about the reasons why it wasn’t the best experience in a recent interview.
“Gosh. Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman’,” Williams said, noting this actor was “distinguished” and “very good” but “at one point, a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. “I see dead people.” It’s one of the most memorable lines in modern cinema history. Back in the summer of 1999, everyone and their dead grandmother was saying those words in hushed tones, imitating young Cole Sear, the haunted protagonist of The Sixth Sense (watch it Here), which was as big of a cultural phenomenon as the movies had seen in years at the time. Thanks to an effective trailer, a word-of-mouth buzz that could not be ignored, the overall high quality of the product itself and, of course, that shocker of an ending, The Sixth Sense was one of those rare things at the cinema: a movie you simply could not miss, unless you didn’t mind being left out of the conversation completely. And most of the success was thanks to that one very compelling admission: “I see dead people.”
But that now infamous line almost wasn’t in the original script.

Tyler Henry is sweating.
We are seated in an airy and bright conference room inside The Hollywood Reporter’s offices at Penske Media Corporation headquarters overlooking the 405 freeway. The 28-year-old, best known as the breakout star of Hollywood Medium on E! followed by the more recent Life After Death on Netflix, offered a polite heads up that he might perspire while doing a personal reading, something that is part of his process as he attempts to connect with the other side. But before Henry did his thing, he defined what it is that he does.
“The technical definition is somebody who communicates with people who have passed,” says Henry, who was in the building to help promote his current live tour (with an upcoming stop in Los Angeles at the Peacock Theater on April 12). “I have come to view it as something a little bit more multifaceted. I view mediums almost as coincidence-makers.

It takes The Matrix about three minutes to become the coolest thing you’ve ever seen. That’s when Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) evades a cop by breaking his arm, punching his throat, and then freezing mid-air so the camera can whip around her before she unleashes a kick that sends him across the room. Three minutes. And everything changed.
But the most impressive part may be the fact that the amazing stuff doesn’t stop there. For the 117 minutes that follow, The Matrix directors Lana and Lilly Wachowski offer an improbable mix of kung fu action, Continental philosophy, and fin de siècle cool. It’s no wonder their movie became a hit in theaters and on video. Nor is it any wonder that so, so many movies and TV shows borrowed from The Matrix, at once cementing the original film’s legacy while also cheapening its effect. In immediate years...

There is not a more divisive filmmaker working today than M. Night Shyamalan. Everyone can basically agree that his 1999 breakthrough "The Sixth Sense" is a supernatural classic, but after that? Slip on the brass knuckles and get ready to rumble. Shyamalan's early 2000s hits "Unbreakable" and "Signs," along with his 2017 comeback "Split," generate the least amount of friction, but aside from those three, it's so very on. You'll hear reasonable defenses for just about all of his films (save for the singularly atrocious "The Last Airbender"). While it's hard to sway folks on a movie as wackadoodle as "The Happening," it is only a good thing to have a major filmmaker knocking out provocative original movies for major studios.
Shyamalan's latest provocation, "Trap," will be his first project under his first-look deal with Warner Bros., and as is typically the case with a new Shyamalan movie, we know next to nothing about it.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from “Bring Me to Life,” the Season 2 finale of Hallmark’s “The Way Home,” which streams on Peacock and Hallmark Movies Now.
“The Way Home” added another jaw-dropping twist in the Season 2 finale, “Bring Me to Life,” which aired Sunday night on Hallmark. Jacob (Spencer MacPherson) returned home to the present day, bringing Kat’s (Chyler Leigh) Season 2 quest to a close — but that wasn’t the most shocking moment of the finale. After Kat declared, “I wish Dad was here to see this,” to her little brother, the show moved to a flashback of a very young Colton in period clothing talking to an old woman about how it wasn’t his time to go in the pond. Another flashback revealed that it was actually adult Colton (Jefferson Brown) standing in the bushes watching himself with a young Jacob (Remy Smith) at the...

Warner Bros. is making a commitment to stay in the Timothee Chalamet business. The legendary studio has signed the actor to a multi-year, first-look deal, which represents a sizable show of faith in the 28-year-old A-list star. But following the success of monster hits such as last year's "Wonka" and both "Dune" movies, it would be hard to blame WB for going all-in on Chalamet at this point.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, specifics of the deal have not been disclosed, but the deal extends to feature projects that Chalamet would both star in and produce. It also appears the deal is limited to movies and may not extend to TV. Chalamet had this to say about it in a statement:
"Working with Mike De Luca, Pam Abdy and their teams on Wonka and Dune over these last few years has been a deeply rewarding experience. These are studio heads who believe in real movie making,...

When Bruce Willis announced his retirement from acting in 2022 due to his condition, his dream to play one role in a film franchise ended. Willis was a big fan of the James Bond films. After watching Javier Bardem portray an exceptional villain in Daniel Craig’s Skyfall, Willis openly stated in 2013 that he was up for playing a big baddie in the next Bond film.

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins signed on to helm Rogue Squadron more than three years ago, but the project hasn’t made much progress since then, with multiple delays amid reports that Jenkins was butting heads creatively with Lucasfilm. The film was finally removed from the schedule in 2022, but Jenkins has now said she’s signed a new deal to return.
While speaking with Ben Mankiewicz on the Talking Pictures podcast, Jenkins explained that she left Rogue Squadron to develop Wonder Woman 3, but when that project fell apart, she returned to Star Wars.
“When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, I thought maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3,” Jenkins said. “So we did a deal for that to happen, started a deal, but I thought I was doing Wonder Woman 3. So when Wonder Woman 3 went away, Lucasfilm and I were like, ‘oh, we gotta finish this deal.

Its ungainly final twist and unreal violence sequences dim a film with a brilliant premise and rage that still stings
Twenty-five years ago, the ultimate bro film came out; it is now rereleased for the anniversary. David Fincher’s bone-splintering, soft-tissue-pulping Fight Club is the ultraviolent hipster-fantasy about a depressed white collar nerd befriended by a supercool alpha male and inducted into a secret bare-knuckle combat cult whose purpose is to restore real masculinity. It was adapted by screenwriter Jim Uhls from the uncompromisingly pessimistic novel by Chuck Palahniuk and, after a slow commercial start, became the movie that launched a million gags about all other clubs whose first rule was that you couldn’t talk about them. It is a comic meme which survived into Emma Seligman’s recent comedy Bottoms.

The original "Night Court" ran for 193 episodes over nine seasons. It was part of a magical Thursday-night lineup of sitcoms -- along with "Family Ties," "The Cosby Show," and "Cheers" -- that dominated the popular consciousness throughout the 1980s. "Night Court" was considered "the weird one" of that lineup, but it was no less popular, earning star John Larroquette four Emmys before he intentionally withdrew himself from consideration. Since its cancelation in 1992, "Night Court" has remained beloved by the people who initially saw it, and subsequent reruns have grown a few new fans along the way.
Sometime in 2019 or 2020, however, a revival of "Night Court" was floated to NBC, and they began developing the new series that debuted on their network in 2023. The "Night Court" revival saw the return of Larroquette as Dan Fielding, the once-lascivious-now-humbled prosecutor who served the night shifts at the Manhattan Criminal Court. It is always heartwarming to hear stories about siblings helping one another, especially in the entertainment industry, where competition can be fierce. Donnie Wahlberg, the elder brother of Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg, recently revealed that he invested around $500,000 in the Ted star’s music career in the early 1990s.
The Fear star’s music career took off thanks in part to his elder brother’s investment, which also kept the former “out of the streets”. Emma Stone had the opportunity to play Spider-Man’s main love interest Gwen Stacey in The Amazing Spider-Man series. But how close was she to the character’s actual age?
How old was Emma Stone compared to Gwen Stacey? Emma Stone | Tiziana Fabi/Getty Images
Stone was already used to playing high school characters before snagging her role in The Amazing Spider-Man. Her breakthrough feature, Superbad, saw her portraying a high school crush. Then she went on to revisit high school in the movie Easy A, where she played the lead. The Amazing Spider-Man would continue this tradition for Stone, as it saw her playing high school student Gwen Stacey.
Although Stone wasn’t technically a teenager during the film, she was close enough. It was announced in October 2010 that she was cast in the film, with production beginning for the feature in December of that same year. This would...

Ah, the 1990s. Perhaps the peak of the moviegoing experience. Theaters consistently showed classics such as the special effects marvel "Jurassic Park," "The Shawshank Redemption," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Pulp Fiction," "Fargo," and "Titanic." The decade also featured an abundance of outstanding horror films like "The Sixth Sense," "Scream," "Misery," and "Interview with the Vampire," all boasting big-name stars and top-tier directors.
However, playing at the opposite end of the cineplex were thrillers you may have never heard about or skipped simply due to bad reviews or scathing word of mouth. Some of Hollywood's top talent attached themselves to such projects, thwarted by ornery critics or moviegoers seeking higher-end entertainment. That's a shame.
While there are undoubtedly plenty of terrible horror films from the 90s, the decade was also ripe with lower-tier entries that have aged surprisingly well. Many don't reset the bar established by esteemed pictures like "The Silence of the Lambs,...

Stephen King is, as his name suggests, the king of horror fiction (while occasionally delving into other genres). The combination of his vivid writing style, characters with unique personalities and special abilities, and epic stories that unfurl with riveting suspense make his work rife for cinematic interpretation. Within these spine-chilling stories, King infuses keen observations on the human condition, and how evil — both supernatural and real — manifests in our society. Over 70 of his novels and short stories have been adapted into films or television shows, but since he is such a prolific writer — often churning out several books each year — there are countless that have yet to be adapted. It’s ironic that memory is the central theme of Piero Messina’s Berlin Competition title “Another End,” when so many of its twists and turns are so directly lifted from other films that it feels like you’ve seen them before; even watching it for the first time feels like rewatching. But if that makes this elegiac literalization of the timeless theme of “what is grief but love persevering?” a rather edgeless experience it’s not a wholly unpleasant one. Less designed to provoke than to soothe, perhaps the very familiarity of much of the movie is a virtue, letting us enjoy its sleek surfaces safe in the knowledge that there’s nothing much lurking in the depths to alarm us.

Throughout the 96-year history of the Academy Awards, the amount of acting lineups consisting only of first-time nominees has reached 37, or about 10% of the overall total. While that number may not seem high in a general sense, these cases actually outnumber those exclusively involving veteran contenders by a ratio of three to one. However, although this list expanded as recently as 2023, rookie-only acting lineups are gradually becoming less common than veteran-only ones, the amount of which has nearly doubled within the last dozen years.
Whereas 75% of veteran-only acting quintets have involved lead performers rather than supporting ones, almost the exact opposite is true of lineups full of newcomers. For instance, only one existing case of the former kind concerns supporting actresses, whereas the same category has produced 15 rookie-only rosters. The last such group consisted of 2000 winner Angelina Jolie and nominees Toni Collette (“The Sixth Sense”), Catherine Keener (“Being John Malkovich...

In January of 1999, two teen movies opened back to back and kicked off what would be one of the most extraordinary years for youth-oriented movies in the history of Hollywood. Both were No. 1 at the box office their first weekend. Both boasted remarkable casts of rising stars — they even shared a star in Paul Walker. And both whipped ancient genre conventions into new combinations that made them fresh and new. Yet for all their similarities, “Varsity Blues” and “She’s All That” couldn’t have been more different: one an R-rated sports drama that tempered its inspirational coming-of-age drama with surprisingly harsh depictions of misogyny and physical and mental abuse, the other a sweet, good-natured romantic comedy nearly as innocent as a Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland vehicle from the 1940s. In their similarities and differences lies the key to why 1999 was such a great year for movies of their type — the 1939 of teen movies.

This year celebrates 25 years since the final year of the 1900’s. A year that brought about such classics as The Matrix, Fight Club, American Pie, and Office Space as well as my personal favorite movie of all time: Arlington Road. The year was so successful that 20 years later it would inspire a book titled Best Movie Year Ever.
With a vast cannon of films ranging from highly anticipated block busting prequels (Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace) to that years’ eventual Best Picture winner American Beauty and a movie that changed the meaning of twist endings forever (The Sixth Sense) 1999 truly was a year for the ages.
I will be honest, after compiling last weeks list for Best Movies from 1994 and now this list, I have to say 1994 was far more deserving of its own book! But that isn’t to say that 1999 doesn’t have a number of...

Some cliche somewhere said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. If you have any questions or comments, or even suggestions of art or other great artists, feel free to contact me at any time at theodorebond@joblo.com.
