Hilarious

Saw this on Canadian Comedy Shorts for the Comedy Network late at night. I loved it. The way the music runs with the narrative makes it presentable, and the narrative itself is pretty funny. It's one of the best shorts I've ever seen. Definitely deserves to be a classic.

Another great film from the NFB

Well, the National Film Board of Canada's done it again. 'Village of Idiots' is a strange, yet charming little film which takes place in a tiny Polish village. The people there aren't too bright, thus the town's nickname, 'the Village of Idiots'. The animation is very unique, created using many layers of cut-out paper figures and illustrations, a strange beauty which many NFB films have become famous for. The whole mix-up which Schmendrick (the main character) makes is very funny, and it makes you think a little. It's a small film, but it's got big value. See it!

the story of Schmendrick

A Hasidic story. Nice animation. Familiar events, reminding, for me "Prostia omeneasca" by Ion Creanga. Touching and nostalgic. A man, his roof fixed in real unconventional manner, the way and the return in his village and family who, for poor Schmendrick, represents a new village and the fear of return of the husband of his new-old wife is the lead source of fear. A film like a Proust madlene for an Eastern viewer. Because the drawings and the characters, and the absurde of situations are more than familiar
