Not as good as the first one
mitsubishizero6 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The first one was simple yet heartfelt while the second seems cheap and more mean spirited. This's Disney's first computer animated Direct-to-Video done without Pixar and it shows. It's not the worst but it's not great. The characters designs look off. There're 5 stories unlike the previous 3 and as previously mentioned they're more mean spirited.

The first story begins with Minnie and Daisy I've skating while their respective boyfriends watch which starts out nice but slowly and slowly Daisy gets jealous and tries to sabotage Minnie's routine leading to both of them trying to outdo each other. It gets really uncomfortable seeing them like this. They make up at the end after almost hurting everybody around them and themselves but it doesn't feel earned at all.

I know that Daisy's a diva but I don't think she would intentionally sabotage her friend or anyone else like that. This seems very out of character when you think about it. There's another story that's also mean spirited in that it focuses on Donald trying to relax after a long day from work but unfortunately he gets forced to go Christmas shopping with Daisy and his nephews much to his frustration and when he finally snaps he gets unfairly blamed and humiliated afterwards.

In the end he gains the Christmas spirit but again it doesn't feel earned considering the events that led up to the ending. I get that you should have a holiday spirit and cherish your loved ones but at the same time you really sympathize with Donald. I'd rather he be by the fireplace enjoying his hot chocolate rather than go to the store having all of this commercialism shoved in his face. It feels very shallow.

The last story involves Pluto running away after Mickey kicks him out of the house in frustration for accidentally destroying it while trying to complete Mickey's Christmas tree. He then gets adopted by Santa and his reindeer which still leaves him empty inside much to their confusion. Meanwhile, Mickey feels guilty for his previous action and tries looking for him while by handing out lost posters to people passing by. A running gag is this grumpy dog who appears in all of the shorts and interacts negatively with each of the main characters in someway or form. They reunite in the end.

There're 2 more but it's pointless talking about them as the formula's the same in some way or form. The movie's not bad but it's a far cry from the previous one. It's one of those movies where when you watch it you don't feel warm inside but cold and uncomfortable. The characters act unusually shallow and materialistic and the lesson learned at the end doesn't feel genuine. What's funny is how in the first movie one of the shorts builds Santa up as to whether he exist or not. Here Huey, Dewey And Luey mail themselves to his workshop and him which gives us a look at Santa who looks like what you'd expect. He doesn't stand out from the rest, if anything he's a run of the mill Santa.

I'd suggest you skip this movie and instead just stick with the first one because this doesn't really know what the Christmas spirit is about. It's shallow and materialistic. Nothing more than a disappointing follow up to a simple yet charming Christmas special.

They'd be be better of at the Old Toons Home
LBytes16 December 2004
This isn't your father's Disney. The original Disney franchise players now reside in the Land Where Everyone is Nice, preschool toons rendered in kiddie-grade Pixarish 3D. Mickey always was a little wimpy but even Donald has been completely Dippified with the Evil Daisy Duck browbeating him at every opportunity. He was a WWII hero for chrissakes, selling War Bonds to defeat the Nazis! Goofy has become a caricature of himself and his goofiness has been choreographed to a perfect death, Huey Dewey & Louie can't stay conniving for more than 30 seconds without guilt spoiling it all, while Pluto would be better off on Animal Control's 3 Day Plan. Its not pretty, what they've done to these old Toons.

The only way to reclaim my interest after this would be Donald doing his popular 'Who's Your Daddy?' with Daisy sparking his enthusiasm. I'd like to see someone with a duckbill pull that off They could've made it an Easter egg, being ducks after all. I can give this one a 7 because kids like it. They don't know any better.

Some Of Our Favourite Disney Characters In CGI
Chrysanthepop10 August 2008
'Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas' is a nice animated film with a series of stories that feature some of our favourite Disney characters: Micky, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Scrooge McDuck, his nephews Huey, Louie and Dewey, Goofy, his teenage son and the girlfriend. The stories follow the traditional Disney style and the only difference in presentation is that this time the animation is done with CGI rather than drawings. While it was refreshing to watch and the animation wasn't done in a bad way by any means, I still prefer they use their traditional drawing method and leave the CGI to Pixar films. I miss the Disney drawings and that's what Disney's best at. I hope they don't continue making CGI movies especially those featuring the classic characters. The film itself was fun to watch. It works as a brilliant winter holiday movie. The narration is very poetic and the songs have good lyrics. It was great to see those lovable characters we haven't seen in a long time. A nice little reunion.

computer generated Mickey
didi-526 December 2009
Where 'Once Upon a Christmas' was a standard Disney cartoon with the famous characters as you are used to seeing them, this film presents five computer-generated shorts including a battle on ice with Minnie Mouse squaring up to Daisy Duck; Mickey Mouse losing Pluto after an argument, whereby the hapless dog gets adopted by reindeer; and Donald Duck's nephews causing havoc in Santa's workshop at the North Pole. The other two shorts - Donald Duck losing the Christmas spirit; and Goofy's son Max trying to impress his girlfriend even while his dad is around, are less memorable, but still good.

The CGI animation doesn't sit well with Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Pluto, and so takes some getting used to - however, once this obstacle is overcome, the film can be enjoyed, and with modern touches will probably entertain the little ones more than its predecessor.

Mickey and Friends in CGI
Hollywood_Yoda17 May 2010
In this sequel to the very successful direct to video release of Mickeys Once Upon a Christmas, we see the group in 3D. Probably not the best way to transition the characters we are all use to seeing in hand drawn 2D animation to this monstrosity of Mickeys Twice Upon a Christmas! The only positive thing I can say about this title is that it is a Disney film, and that is not saying much! To say that this film is a waste of good stories is an understatement, just that in 3D, it seems unlike a Disney film! Still, however, this is a fairly nice Christmas video for the kids, don't get me wrong, they will most likely enjoy it! On the other hand, those of you who are used to seeing the Disney pack in their natural 2D, it is a disappointment. All I can say is to watch the video with an open mind, 6/10.

home TV movie
SnoopyStyle25 December 2019
In "Belles on Ice", ice skating Minnie Mouse gets the spotlight and Daisy Duck is not happy. They battle for the spotlight until they join to perform together. In "Christmas: Impossible", Donald Duck and his nephews are having Christmas dinner at Uncle Scrooge McDuck's mansion. The boys selfishly eat all the cookies and Uncle Scrooge warns them about Santa's list. In "Christmas Maximus", Goofy's grown son Max is coming home with his girlfriend Mona. In "Donald's Gift", Donald wants to relax from gift shopping but is forced to go to the mall. In "Mickey's Dog-Gone Christmas", Pluto causes chaos as Mickey sets up for the Christmas party. Pluto runs away and joins up with Santa's reindeers.

This is very different from the first one. First of all, it's in 3D CG animation. It's hard to remember whether the animation is up to snuff for its day. It's definitely not good enough for today. It doesn't have the surface work but cartoons can skip that stuff to some extend. The sad part is that it's not timeless. Old painted animation can be timeless. This is from a certain era and it won't be a classic. The various stories are very Christmas. The only disturbing thing is Mickey yelling at Pluto. That's an odd note to strike. Pluto running away could be done in another way. I really like the simplicity of the first ice skating story but the others don't reach that level. It's fine for a home TV movie.

Doesn't Live Up to Predecessor
macsamus-927-19660615 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Watch Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas--it is excellent. It's animated holiday fun with heart--the Disney way! This sequel, done with Disney's new computer animation unit, has almost NO heart. I was so excited (in 2004) when I saw "Twice" was coming out, since I LOVE "Once". Absolute disappointment. Each of the stories is about selfishness! The first story involves Daisy Duck and Minnie Mouse trying to outdo each other at a skating event, which ends evenly only after Minnie is hurt in an accident. The second story is dreadful--Huey, Dewey, and Louie eat ALL of the Xmas Eve dessert BEFORE dinner, then make jokes about it at the table. They are sent to bed, where they make more jokes! Uncle Scrooge warns them not to make the mistake of ending up on the 'naughty list'--so the boys head to the North Pole with the intent of changing their names to the 'nice list'! In the process, they make a mess of the North Pole and the viewers are to feel as though the boys redeem themselves when they help clean up the fiasco THEY MADE. Next, Max gets angry because he is embarrassed about his dad, Goofy. Last, Mickey is trying to decorate his home for a Xmas party, but Pluto creates havoc during the process. Mickey ANGRILY kicks Pluto out to his doghouse IN THE SNOW, then feels guilty once Pluto runs away. Pluto ends up at the North Pole with reindeer that do not look like Disney characters. To this day, whenever Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas is on, I will lovingly watch (even though I own the DVD). If "Twice Upon" is on TV, I skip it--as you should.

Wonderful Christmas stories for the whole family. Excellent animation... hohoho!
AlexMLehmann16 November 2004
Jingle... jingle... I've waited quite a time for this one to happen and it was a logical evolution step (getting Mickey into 3D). And it worked. Disney Australia did a great job on this one and I'm really looking forward to more animation in 3D from them.

The short stories are full of beautiful animated Christmas spirit. They have a nice humor and they tell you what really is important about Christmas (well, except they don't talk about Jesus Christ).

I think this DVD will be part of our every-year-watch-it collection for Christmas times. So I really recommend buying this DVD. I think the production value is very high and that Disney has to make two more DVDs like this to earn money with this.

Hohoho everyone, have fun.

A good and fun "sequel", harmless enough.
Mightyzebra25 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Probably not as heartwarming and memorable as the first film ("Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas"), this one is also fun, entertaining and amusing (perhaps even more amusing than the last one)! Unfortunately the stories aren't as well-planned as they could be, with unnecessarily mean characters (even Louie, Douie and Huey are a bit meaner than usual) and unnecessary grumpiness.

Like the last film, this has a few stories about Mickey and his friends at Yuletide. This is computer animated and also unlike the first film, has more stories.

The first story is about Daisy and Minnie dancing on ice and both becoming cross with each other. Beautiful skating and all, but this has too harmless and aggressive a plot for a normal enjoyment, unless you are a tiny kid who thinks violence and arguing is all right, or a parent who wants their child to see what they could be like. Personal rating: 5 and a half out of ten.

The second story has Douie, Huey and Louie going to where Santa lives to try and be on his list so they can get presents. This one is the most fast paced and exciting and not all that bad either. The CGI used in this one to portray many different things is very well done and would probably not be done nearly as well in cartoon. Huey, Douie and Louie are incredibly naughty as well, but they usually are anyway. Personal rating: 7.

The third story is the shortest, but is surprisingly well done. Max, with his girlfriend, are going to go round to his house with Goofy and Goofy, being his goofy self, will be likely to still play the goof. The background song is entertaining and well-sung and this story is also funny, which is "refreshing". Unfortunately we mainly see Max as a grumpy teenager, which is not so refreshing. A good way to describe this: A clean glass of lovely cold water, with quite a large dob of spit added to it. Personal rating: 6.

The fourth story is mainly about the hot chocolate-loving Donald and because of this obsession he has no cares whatsoever. This story is luckily funny and entertaining, with well-used CGI yet again. **SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD** However, the change in Donald is a wee bit too quick, lowering down the quality of this part of the film. **SPOILERS OVER**. Personal rating: 7.

The fifth story is probably the most well-done, despite being slightly sad and depressing. Pluto knocks over all of Mickey's Christmas decorations by accident and is sent to his doghouse. Thinking that Mickey no longer loves him, Pluto runs away. A sweet and especially amusing story, the most heartwarming of the lot. Personal rating: 8.

Recommended to Mickey Mouse fans and CGI likers. Enjoy "Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas"! :-)

Few words will be enough...
salk4 May 2005
...this "movie" discredits Disney's name by revisiting classic Disney characters into a modern world and a modern computer-graphic. I Disney has decided to ride the wave of computer-graphic based animation. Toy Story (1&2) and Monster&Co were good examples of how to use modern techniques in the context of a good starting idea although I can't help thinking that art of animation the way I knew (and loved) has been certified dead by monstrous photo-realistic productions. But this...I'd say it's almost dis-educative for the young generations. I won't comment the technical side of this poorest production but the result is an awful experience that I could not even bring to an end, watching only the first 20 minutes. More than enough. Walt would have no peace if he knew what they are proposing under his name today...

Heart-warming Christmas spirit
TheLittleSongbird1 July 2010
Christmas is my favourite holiday ever, mostly for nostalgic reasons, and I decided to check out this film because I love Christmas movies(Miracle on 34th Street, Its a Wonderful Life, Scrooge, Muppet Christmas Carol) and I loved Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas. And while this is hardly the best Christmas movie, it is a heart-warming and touching one. I was pleasantly surprised.

The animation is surprisingly effective, I was skeptical of it being in CGI but the characters actually do not look robotic and the colours and backgrounds are exquisite. The music is wonderful too, hearing songs and music like that always make me feel warm and tingly inside particularly in the Christmas season. The dialogue isn't cloying, in fact it is funny and touching, and I loved the stories. The first one, the one with Huey, Duey and Louie and the last one are the best, the latter being the most touching. In fact the only story that didn't quite work for me was the one with Donald losing his Christmas spirit and cares, the change to Donald's character was rushed I felt and I just didn't like that side to Donald, he was really mean-spirited in this one. The real delight were the characters, Mickey, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, Minnie, Donald's nephews and Scrooge McDuck are always a delight, and just seeing them was a delight in itself.

In fact, my only other real complaints are some parts that drag and that the narration occasionally got a tad over-eager, it wouldn't have hurt to have brought Kelsey Grammar back as his narration was note-perfect. Other than that, it is a very nice Christmas film. 8/10 Bethany Cox

An Enjoyable Festive Anthology
livapr993 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Full disclosure: I am well aware that this film is nowhere near a masterpiece. Some (if not most) of the segments fall flat upon revisiting them as an adult, the animation of the side characters is passable at best, and Goofy's section of the film is as cringe-worthy as I remember it being when I was a child...but even with all that said, I still can't bring myself to hate or even dislike this movie! Maybe it's the festive and cheerful nature of the whole thing, or perhaps my own nostalgia for Christmas' past when I would watch this film constantly, but in the end, my only feeling towards this movie is pure festive joy!

Following a similar pattern to Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas, this film serves as an anthology of shorts, each of which focus on a member of the Sensational Six and their respective relatives as they try to get through the Christmas period without any major disasters. This inevitably proves much harder than it looks, causing all sorts of holiday-related hijinks and hair-brained schemes to ensue. Minnie and Daisy get overly competitive in an ice-skating spectacular, Donald's nephews mail themselves to the North Pole in a Mission Impossible-style attempt to get their names on the nice list, Goofy causes all kinds of embarrassment for Max when he invites his new girlfriend home for the holidays, Donald struggles to find his Christmas spirit during his relentless pursuit of a nice mug of hot chocolate, and Pluto runs away to the North Pole after Mickey scolds him for ruining his Christmas decorations; standard scenarios with a festive twist, essentially.

While all of these scenarios may seem clichéd or hackneyed nowadays, the addition of classic Disney characters, festive cheer, some fairly solid comedic writing (such as the 'Jail-Break Bob' doll's one-liners and Jim Cummings' exasperated rendition of Blitzen the reindeer) and a few heartwarming moments (the triplets' decision to put Uncle Scrooge's name on Santa's list in the place of their own names is one example) ensures that the shorts still remain entertaining after multiple rewatches, especially if you're pining for some old-fashioned Disney magic to brighten up your Christmas or even if you just want to watch something around the period with any small children in your household.

Of the shorts listed, my personal favourites are probably 'Belles on Ice' and 'Mickey's Dog-Gone Christmas', not only because they have somewhat better visuals and writing, but also because of their clever nods to the continuity of past Disney films, primarily Fantasia (at one point, for example, Mickey proclaims that he'd "have to be a sorcerer to clean up [Pluto's] mess"!). 'Belles on Ice' is particularly impressive, especially since it makes good use of its soundtrack and animation to tell the story visually rather than simply stating it outright through cumbersome dialogue, and perfectly illustrates that this film, while clearly designed with children in mind, can still appeal to adults in a variety of ways. And, in all honesty, it's always nice to hear Wayne Allwine's voice coming from Mickey!

While not a masterwork by any stretch of the imagination, Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas manages to blend touching moments of sincerity, well-crafted comedy, and sneaky nods to extended Disney canon together to create a film that perfectly serves enough festive cheer for adults and children alike. I certainly intend to share this movie with my children when the time comes!

Deplorable!
FiendishDramaturgy22 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
What has become of the grandeur of Disney?! This is the worst CGI muck I've seen since the Hulk! I can't imagine what the Disney Corporation was thinking in approving this disgusting display of amateurish CGI animation, except to make a buck. And yet, they went on and released it?!

I'm virtually in shock that this movie has received a 7.1 (for now) rating here at IMDb, making it the most over-rated piece of detritus in the Disney vaults. I must say it is THE single worst Disney presentation I've ever seen. I'd come to expect bad animation and horribly neglectful illustrations from Disney sequels, but this was no sequel; it was a feature film!

We saw what could be done through CGI with Monsters, Inc., A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, etc. This is more the quality I would have expected at the very beginning of the CGI age, not presently.

I was very disappointed with this attempt, and would admonish Disney to do better next time!

It rates a 1.3/10 from...

Cute Christmas special...
MovieMn19829 November 2004
I rented this, watched it, and I really enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting much, but I was surprised. Each of the stories were very good, and they each had a moral at the end.

The first one is about Daisy Duck and Minnie Mouse fighting for the spotlight at a ice skating competition, the second one was about a Christmas gone wrong at Donald Duck's house, the third about Goofy and his son Max, who is bringing his girlfriend over for a visit, and is afraid that his dad will embarrass him. The fourth one is about Donald's trouble with spreading Christmas cheer, and finally, the fourth - the best one - about a fight that is resolved between Mickey Mouse and Pluto through an intervention from Santa and a few of his wisecracking reindeer. All in all, I loved this, and I think I may add it to my Disney DVD collection! Recommended!

YAY!!! The Ice Skating Hippo's and Alligators are back!
P3n-E-W1s319 December 2016
This is a nice one for the kids. Luckily for me, I'm a big kid at heart and really liked this film.

This compilation of five Christmas Tales hooked me in right from the first story - Belles On Ice. Not because of Minnie or Daisy, but because the Hippo's and Alligators from Fantasia are back, as backing skaters - awesome. It was also nice to see secondary characters turn up, like Scrooge McDuck, whose always been a favourite Disney character of mine; and Goofy's son Max, who I can't remember at all.

Each story is well written and animated, as you would expect from Disney. At the start, I wasn't too sure about it being CG, but by the time the Hippo's hit the ice I was loving it so much it was no longer an issue.

It was also nice to see they've also brought back the moral ending. This is a good thing and one of the reasons I would recommend this movie for kids.

Cute...
RosanaBotafogo15 January 2023
In this new celebration of Christmas. Santa Claus, Mickey and all their Disney pals star in this cartoon about the importance of opening your heart to the true spirit of Christmas.

Watch the hilarious antics of our old acquaintance and stubborn Donald Duck as he unsuccessfully tries to resist the merriment of the Christmas season and laugh along with Mickey and Pluto as they learn a great lesson in the power of friendship.

Mickey's Christmas Carol is inspired by the classic Charles Dickens story, A Christmas Carol. It tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a selfish and miserly old man who had no limits for his greed and despised feelings like love, friendship and generosity. Until, one Christmas Eve, he was visited by the Three Spirits of Christmas, who made him understand what his final destiny would be if he didn't change his actions.

Cute... just... Rewatching (Jan 23) and actually less compelling than the first, but Cute, just...

Pretty good sequel to the first one
mwcrunner29 April 2016
This is a pretty good sequel to the first Mickey Christmas movie but one thing that gets me down about this is that Max is no longer with Roxanne but with some other girl and it makes me upset. That makes me want to write a letter to Disney and tell them to make a sequel to a Goofy Movie and one that will be better then an Extremely Goofy Movie and I saw that that movie got horrible reviews. Oh well at least we get to see Max and Roxanne together in House of Mouse. This movie has pretty good stories in it just like the first one did anyway. Still wish that Max was with Roxanne in this though. Oh well at least I have my imagination and in my imagination Max and Roxanne get married and live together. I also drew that on Deviantart.com.

A Worse Version of Once Upon a Christmas
jordyntsmith4 December 2023
Five Mickey and Friends Takes of Christmas, but they're not very interesting.

I decided to try this with my three-year-old for the first time. The film is painfully average. I think my biggest takeaway was that Mickey and friends should remain 2D characters. This style of 3D just felt lifeless, no expression with a significant lack of motion which is what makes the original characters so much fun.

While not as depressing as Once Upon a Christmas, Twice Upon a Christmas is simply quite boring and uneventful. You could do worse, but you can certainly do a lot better.

It will entertain the younger kids, but that's about all it is good for.

A touching and warm Christmas story, made with Disney magic.
apshag3416 November 2004
This movie looked great from the trailers alone. It is a shame it was a direct to video release because the animation is awesome, and certainly looks like it is feature length quality. I was looking forward to seeing it, especially since this is the first time the "Fab Five" have been computer animated for a movie. Without giving too many details, the film has all your favorite Disney characters such as Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, and his son Max, Donald and his nephews Huey, Duey, and Louie, and their Uncle Scrooge, and Daisy Duck. There are different stories involving the characters and the true meaning of Christmas. It is a wonderful movie to watch for the holidays, and it has a great story. I highly recommend it, if you are a Disney fan, or like to watch Christmas movies.

Entertaining enough to own on DVD.
openapartment5 December 2005
I normally dislike CG animation. Its graphical perfection makes it too artificial for me. "Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas," however, is perfectly suited for CG animation. There is a colorful vibrancy and liveliness to it that makes it much more festive. Consider the sad alternative: second rate hand-drawn animation rivaling that of Saturday morning cartoons. That being said, the animation here is top-notch. Disney is no-doubt attempting to flex its CGI muscle as it transitions away from hand-drawn animation (also, see the theme park commercials, Mickey's Philharmagic, etc.). Also, it should be noted that comparing the quality of this animation with that of a big budget Pixar movie is extremely ignorant. CG animation has its own costs and it would be poor budgeting to spend that much on a video feature. Regardless, it does not suffer from the lack of that detailed a polish.

The stories themselves are entertaining, and there is a surprising amount of wit and imaginative storytelling written into the script. My only complaint is that it would be nice for Disney to create a full feature Mickey Mouse film. Short stories work fine, but it ends and starts again too soon to create any audience involvement.

Good stories, bad CGI
imdbrwd21 November 2004
I know the 3-D/CGI worshippers will dislike my heresy, but if ever there was a place NOT to use CGI, this is it. Most of these characters have been around for almost 75 years in their hand-drawn form, and that's what made them special. There was no need to re-make our favorites into what looks like plastic McDonald's toys, and these should be stuffed back into the bag (Santa's?). I'm glad I finally found a place to rent a copy rather than buying one, and it's obvious that the rental houses agree with my assessment, as I had to check on Netflix, two Blockbusters, and one Hollywood video before I could find a lone copy at a third Blockbuster. Please Disney, don't fix what ain't broke.

Could be better, could be worse
giannisvrach30 October 2016
The CGI could really be better (it was not completely unsightly but it was in dire need of of improvement)but the stories were good. I was so happy to see that Disney selected stories that originated from comics (I've read these stories in magazine "Μεγάλο Μίκυ" (eng: "Big Mickey") which used to be published in Greece, I just don't if the stories were published before the movie or afterwards). Okay, they were not the most fascinating stories and they had more time of musical than one can endure (seriously, nor children nor any type of comic/animation show fan likes musicals, action is better), but it was good to watch in the end.
