The Wages of Fear is a French film directed by Julien Leclercq starring Franck Gastambide and Ana Girardot.
“The Wages of Fear” is a film based on Georges Arnaud’s novel, which, as you may already know, had a previous adaptation in 1953, directed by H.G. Clouzot. This has become a classic of French cinema and one of the best thrillers in film history.
In these current times, Julien Leclercq dares to create a new version of this story, modernizing it entirely and trying to maintain the character tension in this updated plot, although we’re not fully sure if it’s for the better.
It’s always a risk to compare yourself to a classic, but Julien Leclercq has the courage to try it.
Plot
To save a village during an oil extraction, four people must escort a convoy loaded with nitroglycerin in a desolate place, surrounded by armed gangs.

The Losers return to a very familiar place: ‘Salem’s Lot. But things look a tad different in 2004.
Starring Rob Lowe, Donald Sutherland, Samantha Mathis, and the late and great Andre Braugher and Rutger Hauer, this TNT miniseries updated the 1975 novel by shifting the vampiric action into modern times. This affords the narrative a more topical lense, particularly the mutual feelings of a nation still reeling from 9/11 and the ensuing war overseas.
Join the Losers in the popular Stephen King town as they weigh in on the miniseries’ 2004 vibes, the eerie connection to Wolves of the Calla, the changes to the source material, and the phenomenal cast — particularly Sutherland and Brauer. They also debate whether it’s cynical or earnest, why all the characters are jerks, the edge lord vibe of it all, and its connection to a more recent miniseries cut from the same cloth: Chapelwaite.

I'm going to need you to remember back to the very early days of the MCU. Robert Downey Jr. was Tony Stark, played with all the snark and charisma you could ever want from a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist character, and Edward Norton was the tortured Bruce Banner, a role he wasn't destined to hold on to.
A "Captain America" movie was coming up and ... well, people had opinions. Some wanted a grounded Cap, some wanted a badass Cap, and some wanted something more in line with Rdj's Tony Stark. The thing is, we had never gotten a good Captain America on screen before. We'd gotten one terrible "Captain America" film in 1990 from schlockmeister Albert Pyun ("Cyborg" and "The Sword and the Sorcerer"), and the character had pretty much fallen out of favor to all but the most die-hard Marvel comics fans.
He was too Goodie Two Shoes, at least that was the perception,...

Chris Evans and Idris Elba teamed up for another comic book movie long before they worked in Marvel. While on set, Elba couldn’t believe the phobia his co-star had.

The Losers was Elba’s 2010 adaptation of the comic book of the same name. It saw the actor team up with Chris Evans and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as mercenaries on a dangerous mission. As one of the first comic book movies Elba starred in, he admitted he felt quite nervous doing the project.
“It’s a hard line to follow, because comic books are followed because of their, brilliance, and detail in their story line. You can live in this world and not share it with anyone else,” Elba once said according to Hey U Guys. “Ultimately there is...

With summer behind us, it’s time to embrace the Fall season ahead. Pumpkins, black cats, and deadly rats. Be sure to keep an eye on your watch as the sun hits that horizon much, much earlier this time of the year. Before you know it: Full Dark, No Stars. Alas, The Losers’ Club has reached the next novellas collection in their journey through Stephen King‘s catalogue.
Released in November 2010, King’s third novellas collection — following 1982’s Different Seasons and 1990’s Four Past Midnight — captures the legendary author at his deadliest. No shit. King is truly the Master of Horror within these four sordid tales of retribution: 1922, Big Driver, Fair Extension, A Good Marriage. These are the stories that never leave the mind.

While every decade has movies that fly under the radar, the addition of multiple streaming services in the 2010s gives us quite the list to work off of. While everyone’s favorite decade for horror is usually the ’80s or ’90s, there are far more hidden gems to find now than ever before. How a movie with a great cast, good production value, and the vaunted “based on a true story angle” was somehow successful at the box office and entirely forgotten just a little over a decade after release is just bizarre. Actor Zoe Saldana was caught off guard when filming a movie with X-Men alum James Marsden. The pair were doing a scene together when Marsden showed too much skin when Saldana least expected it.

Zoe Saldana starred alongside X-Men’s former Cyclops in the comedy movie Death at a Funeral. The film was a black comedy that featured an ensemble cast, and was about dysfunctional family members coming together to bury a loved one. Saldana and Marsden both starred in the film as two young lovers engaged to be married.
While filming, however, Marsden disrobed at a point in the film Saldana wasn’t expecting. And the actor’s sudden nudity more than caught the actor off guard.
“The funniest thing that Jimmy did wasn’t so funny.

Director Michael Cimino Didn't Want The Deer Hunter To Feel Like A Political Statement About Vietnam
In a 1977 New York Times article, director Michael Cimino was asked how big of a role the Vietnam war would play in "The Deer Hunter." He replied, "The war is really incidental to the development of the characters and their story. It's a part of their lives and just that, nothing more. I have no interest in making a 'Vietnam' film, no interest in making a direct political statement."
Released the same year, Francis Ford Coppola's "Apocalypse Now" contemplates the moral ramifications of war whereas "The Deer Hunter" considers how it affects the homefront. "The Deer Hunter" is the story of a group of friends — Michael, Nick, and Steven — that belong to a tight-knit Russian Orthodox community in rural Pennsylvania. With the exception of the infamous Russian roulette scenes, the film focuses on their struggle to assimilate into their community and reconcile their trauma after participating in the Vietnam war.

Stephen King loves autumn. So many of his novels are chock full of crunchy leaves, sweater weather, and the kind of dusks you can only find in October and November. Like Halloween, though, he’s never really had a story set around Thanksgiving. Instead, he’s used the holiday to help set the table, to borrow a very obvious pun, for a number of his sordid stories.

Our own Max Evry just spoke with actor and makeup effects legend Tom Savini for the 40th anniversary of "Creepshow." In their conversation, Savini recalled a tale about a lesser-known film in director George Romero's oeuvre called "Knightriders." After the runaway success of the 1978 sequel "Dawn of the Dead," Romero was given carte blanche to make an Arthurian biker movie about a Renaissance troupe who travel the countryside mounting jousting tournaments on their motorcycles. How anyone would not rush to the theater to see that is beyond me. Savini and Ed Harris (in his first starring role) helped to bring Romero's modern medieval vision to life, but the ambitious project failed to ignite the box office, causing Romero's newly found freedom to suddenly be reeled in significantly.
Years before "Dawn of the Dead" and 1981's "Knightriders," Romero was already thinking about making something set in the Middle Ages, recalled Savini.

Stephen King's 1986 novel "It" contains a whole lot of story. Over its 1100+ pages, it recounts a battle between children and an ancient, malevolent entity known sometimes as the title's name. At other times, "It" is a werewolf, a mummy, a leper, and most famously, Pennywise the Dancing Clown – whatever its child-target fears the most. As such, the seven kids – known amongst each other as The Losers Club – each have storylines dedicated to their interior lives and how it informs each individual fear. Any adaptation is bound to be lengthy.
When the time came to adapt the behemoth work into what would become the 1990 ABC miniseries, ambitions were high on the filmmaking side of it; at one time we could have had the Godfather of Horror, George Romero, taking the reins before "Halloween III" director Tommy Lee Wallace landed the gig. Last month, Comixology Originals debuted the new 4-issue series Cold Iron, a supernatural thriller steeped in Celtic mythology, created by English writer Andy Diggle and Scottish artist Nick Brokenshire (featuring colors by Triona Farrell and letters by Simon Bowland). With issue 2 having just been released, we have an exclusive look at some of Nick Brokenshire's preliminary character art, along with a Q&a, where he talks about the characters and artwork:
"Celtic folklore and modern moxie collide as an ancient pact between worlds is broken. The sinister forces of Faerie have slipped their shackles, and the Black Dog walks abroad this night…
On the rural Isle of Man, aspiring singer-songwriter Kay Farragher dreams of escaping her humdrum life. But she’s about to get more than she bargained for – and some bargains are not to be trusted...

Constantine: The House of Mystery is essentially a series of previously released DC animated shorts tied together with an all-new short based on the adventures of John Constantine in the titular House of Mystery (which was also the name of a DC comic back in the day that introduced the likes of Swamp Thing). Surprisingly, the animated short is actually set after the last series of DC animated movies, before the recent reboot in 2020, when the Justice League faced Darkseid and the Apokolips War and ended the then 15-movie run of animated DC features.
Constantine: The House of Mystery starts directly after the end of Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, with the heroes licking their wounds and realising the end of the world was still nigh.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 8, “Hello, Losers!”] If you polled viewers of Killing Eve’s final episode on their immediate reactions to the ending, the result with the most votes would be “sitting slack-jawed, frozen in shock.” And for good reason. Whatever your thoughts about Season 4 — whether you felt it was an improvement over Season 3 or that it was scattered like glass shards on pavement — “Hello, Losers!” seems destined to spark strong reactions. Here’s what we liked, and what we didn’t like, about Killing Eve’s final hour. David Emery/Bbca The Good Stuff At. Long. Last. After four whole seasons of yearning eye contact, gently brushing hands and, uh, attempted murder, Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and Eve (Sandra Oh) did it. They kissed. And what a kiss it was. Many stars in Hollywood have successfully jumped from DC to Marvel movies, and vice versa. Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, David Dastmalchian, and Halle Berry are just a few names on that ever-growing list. Chris Evans has even jumped back and forth multiple times with increasing degrees of success thanks to "Fantastic Four," "The Losers," and "Captain America: The First Avenger."

Bulgaria has selected Ivaylo Hristov’s Fear (Страх) as its official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards. Set in a Bulgarian village close to the Turkish border, Fear centers on a widow (Svetlana Yancheva) who encounters an African migrant (Michael Fleming) while hunting in the woods. She takes him in while he plots the remainder of his journey to Germany. The drama with comedic elements examines themes of inherent prejudice and simmering bigotry as the entire village, bracing for a wave of Afghani migrants, turns against the woman, demanding that the man leave. (Watch the trailer below.)
Hristov, who was one of the top Bulgarian theater and film actors of the 1990s before venturing into filmmaking, wrote and directed Fear. The movie won the top Golden Rose Award for Best Film at the 38th Golden Rose Bulgarian Film Festival where it also won for Best...

Home viewing competition this week was stiff. It included the HBO Max same-day premiere of “The Suicide Squad” and ongoing availability of Disney’s “Black Widow” and “Jungle Cruise” for an extra $29.99 for Disney+ subscribers. The two titles that could break through were “Pig” (Neon/$6.99) and “Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain” (Focus/$19.99), both of which added VOD play after three weeks in theaters.
Many Nicolas Cage movies are genre-exercise VOD exclusives, but “Pig” stands out with excellent reviews (82 Metacritic) and his performance as a truffle hunter in search of his beloved pig received some the best reviews of his career. It placed on all three charts and as high as #2 on iTunes.
“Roadrunner,” released Friday, is #7 on iTunes. Vudu reports that though the title is just below its top 10, it was their third-highest ranked new release.
Samba TV, an app that tracks home viewing, estimates 2.8 million U.S. households saw “Squad” this weekend.

Even The Losers get lucky sometimes. Before the Dceu was formed to compete against the ever-expanding, cash cow that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the approach at Warner Bros. was far looser. With the booming business of comic book adaptations in full swing, the studio was throwing money at several eclectic comic book titles like Watchmen and Jonah Hex, trying to stay competitive and seemingly more adult than their rivals. Hence before leaving to create his own superhero project, Hancock, writer-director Peter Berg started penning an adaptation of DC/Vertigo’s The Losers, bringing in French director Sylvain White to helm the picture.
Produced by Joel Silver, The Losers centered on a team of elite, black-ops Special Forces operatives betrayed by their handler. Director White connected with the material immediately.
“What appealed to me about The Losers was that it wasn’t the typical superhero-with-superpowers thing,” White told MTV. “It...

“F9” (Universal/$19.99) is #1 on all four VOD charts we follow. It leads both on FandangoNow and Vudu, which list by rental revenue, and iTunes and Google Play, which rank by volume of renters. That suggests total dominance of home interest, but there’s a big caveat with “Jungle Cruise,” which opened #1 at the box office. It’s also available on Disney+ for $29.99 and the studio reported worldwide PVOD revenue of over $30 million for its first weekend. How much of that came from the U.S.is unclear, but the guess is most since VOD penetration is still lacking overseas.
Universal typically allows three weeks before opening the PVOD box office, but “F9” is the studio’s first title to wait five weeks. It grossed over $50 million on its opening weekend and under Universal’s agreement with theaters that meant a minimum 31 days for VOD.

The hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” could not stop laughing Wednesday while discussing a Tuesday report that former president Donald Trump wanted the government to stop “Saturday Night Live” from making fun of him.
“This is really unbelievable,” observed co-host Mika Brzezinski.
According to a Daily Beast article published Tuesday, Trump didn’t just want the Federal Communications Commission to probe “SNL” — where Alec Baldwin played him for years — for lampooning his single-term administration. He asked his advisers and lawyers if the Department of Justice could somehow intervene on his behalf, too.
The report noted he also wondered whether the court system could do something about the late-night shows’ jabs at him. And while that might sound like serious overreach, one of the Beast’s anonymous sources said, “It was more annoying than alarming, to be honest with you.”

Warner Animation has been more miss than hit when adapting long comic book serials into a 90 minute or less feature film. Thankfully, they finally learned the lesson and are adapting Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s thirteen-part Batman: The Long Halloween into two films. The first part is out tomorrow and I am quite pleased with it.
The overarching plot has to do with the serial murders of people connected to crime boss Carmine Falcone (Titus Welliver) as the triumvirate of Commissioner Gordon (Billy Burke), District Attorney Harvey Dent (Josh Duhamel), and Batman (Jensen Ackles) all occurring on holidays. The hunt of the Holiday killer propels events as each attempt to thwart the next killing fails, leaving the good guys reeling and Falcone scared.

Jock has created a cover for the series, which launches June 16 from Image Comics.
