The year 2024 is turning out to be quite the year for Hugh Jackman. The Australian star is making a return to the big screen as everyone’s favorite clawed mutant, Wolverine. The X-Men member has been a mainstay not only in the comics, but also in the movie series, beginning with 2000’s X-Men. It was the latter which catapulted Hugh Jackman to a pedestal from which there was no turning back. The year 2024 marks a return for Jackman to his loved role. But it comes alongside confirmation that he will be making his debut as Robin Hood, as well.

Hugh Jackman makes his anticipated return as Wolverine this summer, but while he is excitingly reprising a beloved role, many agree he also perfectly capped off the popular mutant’s journey in the future-set X-Men sequel, Logan. Logan told the story of a popular anti-hero aging into his older years as he became a more broken-down version of himself. Jackman may not be veering too far off from that theme as he is now set to star in a darker incarnation of the story of literary folk hero Robin Hood.
According to Deadline, Jackman and Jodie Comer are set to star in The Death of Robin Hood. Michael Sarnoski, who directed Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, will be penning and directing the retelling with Arrival and The Prestige producer Aaron Ryder on board to produce the film. Per Deadline, “The film is a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale.

One of Hollywood’s greatest living actors, Michael Caine, is sending his fans into a tizzy over a photo posted to his personal Twitter account. The image depicts an impressive stack of Caine’s films on DVD and Blu-ray, encapsulating the highs and lows of his storied career as an entertainer. While gems like Get Carter, The Last Valley, and Harry Brown adorn the pile, cinematic blights like On Deadly Ground, Jaws: The Revenge, and The Island sit among the crowd.
The variety of films in Caine’s collection speaks volumes about the actor’s sense of humor and accomplishment. While some actors tend to want to cast their cinematic sins to the fiery depths, Caine proudly displays several of his biggest box office bombs and critically panned misfires. For example, Peter Benchley’s The Island is an insane bit of cinema featuring Caine as a kidnap victim of inbred pirates.

Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” will be re-released in theaters in honor of the sci-fi epic’s 10th anniversary. The film, which earned an impressive $731 million globally when it debuted in 2014, stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Matt Damon and is set in a dystopian future in which a group of astronauts must travel to the far reaches of space to find a new planet for humankind to colonize.
Paramount Pictures announced the re-release during its presentation to theater owners and executives at CinemaCon, the exhibition industry conference taking place this week in Las Vegas. “Interstellar” will fly back into theaters this fall. It will be shown in 70mm Imax prints (Nolan’s preferred format), as well as on digital screens. Warner Bros., which co-produced the movie, will work in coordination with Paramount on the revival.

Christopher Nolan and his brother Jonathan Nolan grew up loving films and aspired to be filmmakers. Jonathan Nolan appeared on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast to tout his latest television series, Prime Video’s “Fallout,” but the conversation touched on Nolan’s time co-writing “Batman” movies with his brother, Christopher Nolan. The siblings share screenwriting credit on 2008’s “The Dark Knight” and 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” Jonathan admitted that he was pushing for the Riddler to be the primary villain of “Rises” and not Bane, which is what Christopher and David S. Goyer were planning. Goyer co-wrote “Batman Begins” and worked on the stories for the two sequels.
“We had these conversations,” Jonathan said. “Bane came out of a conversation with David [Goyer] and Chris. I was unsure about that at the story stage, but I [didn’t want it to be] back seat driving. Chris understood that what we had done and what Heath [Ledger] had done with [Joker] — you didn’t want to go anywhere near it.”

Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy is undoubtedly one of the greatest superhero movies ever starring Christian Bale as Batman in the chronicle of the titular Gotham hero. However, the trilogy was almost left incomplete as Nolan had no plans to move beyond the 2005 hit Batman Begins.

Jonathan Nolan said during a recent interview on the “Armchair Expert” podcast with Dax Shepard that it took some convincing to get his brother, Christopher Nolan, to agree to direct “The Dark Knight.” The filmmaker had already hit a superhero movie slam dunk with “Batman Begins” and was hesitant to make another comic book movie because he didn’t want his career getting pigeonholed.
“I worked on ‘Batman Begins’ in this slightly arm’s length capacity, but it was the one comic book my brother ever given me as a kid, ‘Batman: Year One,’ for my 14th birthday, and 10 years later I was on the set working with him,” Jonathan said, remembering thinking “this is nuts.”
“Chris was on the fence about making another one,” Jonathan continued, noting that Chris went straight from “Batman Begins” into helming the magician thriller “The Prestige.” “He didn’t want to become a superhero movie director.

Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors working today. He's covered plenty of genres, from war dramas to superhero movies to many kinds of science fiction, and he always leaves his mark on them. Nolan is also the rare auteur who makes four-quadrant blockbusters that both appeal to the masses and earn critical acclaim.
Even over a decade later, however, "Inception" remains one of Nolan's all-time best films. It's a visually stunning and inventive movie that boasts some of the best action scenes ever put to film, and even its title has now entered the lexicon thanks to an ending that still confounds viewers everywhere.
As successful as "Inception" was, it was a long and hard road to get the movie made. Not because of production delays, mind you, but because Nolan himself took his sweet time workshopping the movie before it was ready — along the way evolving it...

Jonathan Nolan has co-written some of the finest genre films of the 21st century (from The Prestige to Interstellar to The Dark Knight) and co-showrun one of the most groundbreaking sci-fi TV shows ever made (Westworld). Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy has some of the most quotable dialogues in cinema history. Several lines by Batman and Joker in the film have left a mark on pop culture and have even found themselves in modern memes. However, not every line could leave an impact like Harvey Dent’s- “You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

Fans were shocked to learn from Christopher Nolan that the iconic dialogue was not written by him but by his brother, Jonathan Nolan. The Nolan brothers have collaborated on several projects like The Dark Knight Trilogy and The Prestige. There's no one way to play Batman. With "Batman Returns," star Michael Keaton cut more than half his lines, making for a broody, mysterious Dark Knight that fit perfectly among the more outlandish freaks that populated Tim Burton and production designer Bo Welch's nightmare fairytale landscape. For his Dark Knight trilogy, however, Christopher Nolan wasn't afraid to let Christian Bale's Batman bellow multiple lines using his now-famous guttural growl.
Both approaches worked, but there's no doubt Nolan's trilogy presented a much more quotable Dark Knight. Several of Bale's most striking Batman lines have now been solidified in pop culture history, with perhaps his infamously overwrought "Swear to me!" from "Batman Begins" being the most salient example. But Bale's Batman wasn't the only part of Nolan's trilogy that proved infinitely quotable. The director's scripts were a treasure trove of meme-able lines, many of which found their way into mass culture almost immediately.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man 3 received praise for its performances, but there was one actress whom fans would have loved to see more. Godzilla x Kong actress Rebecca Hall played Maya Hansen in the film, who had nothing much to offer in the storyline of the film. Interestingly, Hall initially had a more meaty role in the film as a villain, however, the character was later decided to be killed off towards the beginning of the third act of the film.

Christian Bale is undeniably one of the most respected actors to ever portray the iconic Batman. His collaboration with director Christopher Nolan in 2005’s Batman Begins launched a gritty and now-legendary trilogy that made over $2 billion worldwide (via The Numbers).

Through 96 years of auspicious Oscar ceremonies, the event has often witnessed one major contender becoming the punching bag for critical backlash on social media. In 2017, that dubious honor fell to La La Land, after the shocking moment where presenters Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty mixed up the musical with Moonlight, and announced it as Best Picture winner.
Christopher Nolan on Late Show with Stephen Colbert
Eventually, La La Land not only lost the Oscar for Best Picture but also witnessed a segment of moviegoers shifting from swooning over the film to loathing it. But one person who was unfazed by the Oscars’ mix-up and public comments, was legendary filmmaker Christopher Nolan. Making an exception of watching Damien Chazelle’s Best Picture nominee, three or four times in cinemas, Nolan expressed his love for the film.

The 96th Academy Awards have come and gone, and the night's victor was absolutely "Oppenheimer," Christopher Nolan's epic chronicling the primary developer of the atomic bomb (Cillian Murphy), which won seven Oscars during the ceremony.
It's doubly impressive since 2023 was a dang good year for movies. Surveying the Best Picture nominees, both veteran filmmakers like Martin Scorsese ("Killers of the Flower Moon") and promising new artists such as Celine Song ("Past Lives") stand in its ranks. But really, "Oppenheimer" was the achievement of the year — and yes, without any disrespect to Greta Gerwig or Margot Robbie, I'd even put it ahead of "Barbie," its unofficial "Barbenheimer" double-bill picture.
The triumph of "Oppenheimer" looped back around from feeling inevitable to uncertain to ensured once again. The film opened to rapturous reception, but it was a summer release. Would something come along in the typical Oscar months of autumn to dethrone it?...

The move could signal a shift in strategy by Apple to finally incorporate more library titles into its catalog.
Is Apple TV+ finally getting non-original titles in its streaming library? Yes, at least temporarily, at any rate, as the streamer has added a total of 51 movies to its streaming catalog, spanning every genre and including some true blockbusters. Apple stresses that these titles will only be available for a limited time, but it could be providing a glimpse into its own future with the additions. Having long focused on high-quality originals without the studio archives or licensing library of its competitors, Apple V+ has been a somewhat different type of streamer since it launched in November 2019.
Titles available on Apple TV+ include “Star Trek,” “Kill Bill,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” “300” and more. Each movie will only be available on the streamer until March or April. Apple has resisted offering library titles before,...

Criticism is nothing new to Christopher Nolan. The acclaimed director has endured criticism from some critics who have labeled his films as “cold” or lacking in emotional depth. However, the 53-year-old London-born director, who has received Oscar nominations for Best Original Screenplay for both Inception & Memento (co-written with his brother), earned some scorn for his 2014 epic sci-fi flick Interstellar.
In response to criticism that his work is too cerebral and emotionally detached, Nolan seemed to make a bold move with the casting choices he made for Interstellar. In what way?
The narrative of the movie originated from a “very personal place”. He and his brother, Jonathan Nolan, wrote the screenplay together. The former explained why the original Interstellar script by his brother called for Murph to be a boy, but the Dunkirk director chose to make her a girl instead.

Over 15 years after its release, "The Dark Knight" remains one of the best superhero movies ever made. It's a blockbuster that changed movies forever, helping usher in the era of superhero domination in cinema and legitimizing the genre as more than just popcorn fare. Heath Ledger's posthumous Academy Award win marked the first time a superhero movie had received recognition for its acting at a major awards show, while the movie being snubbed for a Best Picture nod led to the so-called "Dark Knight Rule" (which extended the category's number of nominees from five to 10).
"The Dark Knight" was also the movie that kickstarted Christopher Nolan's love of IMAX, and, all that aside, is just a well-written film with fantastic dialogue that continues to be referenced and parodied to this day. No one does it quite like Christopher Nolan! The man is one of the finest filmmakers of all time thanks to his mind-blowing movies, which oftentimes require the audience to have a high level of intellect to truly grasp the essence of the film. Within weeks of its release in the summer of 2008, The Dark Knight cemented its place in popular culture. People were quoting the Joker, debating Batman’s questionable surveillance tactics, and praising the film’s grounded take on superheroes, even before the movie hit home video.

It’s no surprise that Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy received tons of accolades this year. When it comes to pushing the limits physically and mentally for a role, it is difficult to look past Christian Bale. The British actor is not just known for his memorable performances on screen, but also for his extreme modes of preparation that he adopts to get into the skin of his characters. From resorting to brutal diets for his roles in American Psycho and The Fighter to sacrificing sleep to play an insomniac in The Machinist, Bale has done it all for the love of his craft.

Given the number of high-wattage films garnering multiple nominations at the BAFTAs this year, the rationing of awards was always likely unpredictable on the night. And so it proved, meaning that The Zone of Interest and Poor Things had already nibbled away at Oppenheimer’s chances of a decent sweep before the Best Director award came round. With Poor Things director Yorgo Lanthimos inexplicably left out of the race, a category snub this year for Christopher Nolan would absolutely have sent a signal to the British-American director.
Luckily, the fates were smiling, and Nolan finally got his hands on that BAFTA. When Christopher Nolan’s idol, Stanley Kubrick, first reached out to Arthur C. Clarke, he asked if he’d like to try and make “the proverbial ‘really good’ science fiction film” which, at that point, Kubrick did not believe existed. The point is that Kubrick would only commit to the genre if they nailed the script first.
While Nolan, I’m sure, finds merit in an entire catalog of horror movies, he echoed the late master a bit when he told an audience at a recent BFI event that he’s interested in giving the horror genre a try, so long as the idea is good enough.
The writer-director of “Oppenheimer,” which is a front-runner for many of its 13 Oscar nominations this year, including Best Picture, said that the Cillian Murphy-led portrait of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer “has elements of horror in it, definitely, as I think is appropriate to the subject matter.

“I had to go off on my own,” Nolan said about his reaction to Caine sitting “Oppenheimer” out. “So, okay, I haven’t got Michael Caine, I’d better get Matt Damon,...

Oppenheimer Maker Christopher Nolan On Robert Downey Jr As Iron Man ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Christopher Nolan has given us some mind-boggling films over the years, such as Interstellar, Inception, The Prestige, and Oppenheimer last year. Like Nolan, known for his excellent cinematic work, his actor Robert Downey Jr. is also a global star. Appreciated for his Batman trilogy, the director recently praised Rdj for portraying Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Keep scrolling for more.
A few days back, Rdj revealed going to Nolan for the role of Scarecrow in Batman Begins but got rejected. The role eventually went to Cillian Murphy, who has been integral to Nolan’s filmography. The trio has been ruling the Hollywood awards this year, and fans hope they will also bag the Oscars.
Christopher Nolan has often spoken highly of Robert Downey Jr, and he truly admires the actor in Iron Man’s role in the MCU.

I think the film critics of the 2000s and 2010s misdiagnosed what kind of filmmaker Christopher Nolan is.
Back in 2010, in the wake of "Inception," The Guardian asked, "Is Christopher Nolan the new Stanley Kubrick?" The director of "2001," "The Shining," and more, Kubrick's masterpieces are the work of a cynical perfectionist. Nolan has been accused of being cold — it doesn't help he's a British gentleman (England was the Manhattan-born Kubrick's adopted homeland) — and his films' layer cake story structures might feel akin to the ambiguity of Kubrick. Nolan admits he is a fan of Kubrick ("Interstellar" does not exist in the world where Nolan isn't inspired by "2001" as a child). Still, to me at least, it's clear that Nolan is more like Steven Spielberg — a populist auteur.
Nolan makes movies that play for a crowd. That's what "The Prestige" is all about, using Victorian-era stage magic as an allegory...

Christopher Nolan is one of Britain’s best filmmaking exports, having made many movies adored by fans and critics alike. “Memento,” “The Prestige,” “The Dark Knight,” “Inception,” “Interstellar,” and “Dunkirk” all wowed cinema fans and he continued his hot streak with another epic — this time in the form of Universal’s historical biopic “Oppenheimer.”
The film follows Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer in his quest to create the atomic bomb while he gets caught up in the political machinations of Robert Downey Jr.’s Lewis Strauss. “Oppenheimer” is currently predicted to do well at the Oscars but how about on Nolan’s home soil?
Nolan has never won a BAFTA. His first three nominations all came in 2011 for “Inception,” for Best Picture (shared with Emma Thomas), Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Nolan and Thomas lost Best Picture to “The King’s Speech,” while Nolan lost his writing bid to...
