The day they gave babies away
Llynettejb11 February 2007
I saw this film many years ago late 50s early 60s it was a real weepy, one of those films you never forget and I would just love to see it again, not the TV series I don't know that, I mean the Movie it may even have been black and white I am just not sure anyone know where I can get a copy of the Movie. I can still see the sweet kids with their parents and then with the oldest child they were all, the other kids in some sort of cart or wagon trailing from house to house in the freezing snow I know there was a lot of tears in the film and on our sofa. It is a real moving film. it is about a true life situation that must have been a dreadful time for all concerned and it is this that makes it so moving and powerful.

Based on Movie "All Mine to Give"

A short story by Dale Eunson and his wife ran in Cosmepolitan magazine called "The Day they gave the babies away" 1946 . The movie and series was based on that real life account which is a tear jerker for sure but a lovely movie. Life back in 1856 was harsh and hard but beautiful none the less. Every once in while TCM plays the movie around the holidays about family love. Make sure you have tissues handy when you watch the love unfold between the children left to fend for themselves, at the turn of the century Highly recommend. Movie was released in 1957 but is in color not black and white film.
