A dark movie
jerettfranklin13 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This is my first review ever. And with that being said i'm really trying to not give away too much if anything so if you already watched this and you're thinking, "this doesn't give anything away" well then I achieved what I wanted. But just to be safe I decided to suit up and label this as a spoiler in hopes of not losing my reviewing privileges. (fingers crossed)

For those that like fairytale endings, be careful before watching this movie, it's something evil. However, it's something of the truth and you know what they say about the truth right? Anyways, the movie is about a young college student named Shea and her dangers of being a female. If this movie was to have an alternative title then Ruthless would be it. I say that because I found myself chanting "oh my god" on how far Austin Chick traveled with such an idea. It seemed like Chick's secret ingredients were a little of "I spit on your grave with some shutter island or fight club (your choice) and cooked it for a little over ninety minutes or, until you could smell the cigarette smoke. How did it taste? I kinda liked it. I say this because of the ending However the after taste made me think again as to how much of this is actually based on unfortunate everyday truth. I might try watching this again. But then again, i might not. Take this as food for thought.

Seems some men only enjoy horror when women are getting butchered
jon_anderson7717 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Spotted this on Amazon prime and as I enjoy a revenge movie decided to give this a go. In terms of pace its not great but the revenge horror element is on point. Noticed a lot of talk from some really hypocritical reviewers about men being slaughtered for some feminist agenda. Bore off. 90% of horror involves female characters being killed by men but when its the other way round its feminism. Yeah alright. As a male viewer I enjoy nothing more in cinema than seeing scum bag rapists get their comeuppance and this delivers in droves. Is it violent and gory? yes but I've seen worse. A lot worse in fact.

Girls Against Boys is not for the faint hearted. If you want to see two women pick off some mostly bad dudes spiral out of control then this is for you but if you think a rapist getting dismembered is feminism gone too far maybe watch something else. Perhaps a slasher of yesteryear involving a masked guy stalking and killing women for almost no reason at all.

Enjoy

Revenge is sweet or bitter?
kosmasp30 September 2013
This is a revenge movie ... or is it? There might be more to it, than you first think. Of course it's also something that people might feel cheated about. Why try to make something more intellectual than it is? But it does put/shed new light on the rest of the movie. You can decide how to see or observe some of the scenes. One might say it warrants a second viewing too.

The acting is solid, though we do get a few clichés thrown our way. And as stated the ending might not win you over to its cause yet. There is blood and violence and some minor nudity. There is also a very obvious hint at the beginning of the movie, that actually is followed by a flashback. Is it too smart, not smart enough? It has its flaws (emotional detachment being amongst them), but you can watch it, if you like those kind of movies (doesn't matter if you're a girl or not)

It's not what it seems.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm surprised that the viewers didn't really understand the movie in it's entirety. Shae has just gone through a horrific rape, she has also been dumped by a narcissistic prick who has no real feelings for her. She's in her own personal hell. What does Shae do? She creates a fantasy. A fantasy where she and "Lu" go on a killing spree. Lu Lu is a figment of her imagination. She is the Riot Grrrl inside Shae. How do I know this? At the end the camera pans across to all the places they supposedly killed all those men. They are clean, free of any bloody carcasses. Why? Because no one died in these scenes. The director is letting us know that it never happened. Shae takes a bath, cleansing herself, starting fresh. She's ready to take on the world. She is no longer afraid. She's brushing her teeth and the camera pans right and shows us the Japanese robe "Lu" wore while killing Shae's DJ friend. It's hanging there as if it's always been there. It's Shae's bathroom robe. Then we see Shae at work, smoking in the stairwell. When she's talking to the crying girl, Right before Shae inhales the smoke from her cigarette, the camera goes out of focus on Shae's face and in the background you see another light. This light is of another cigarette being inhaled. This is letting us know that "Lu" is NOT dead. At least not in Shae's mind. Shae has now taken on Lu Lu's persona. She is no longer an innocent. "Lu" has always been there. And now she sit's behind Shae figuratively, keeping watch over her girl. Shae needed those fantasy's and "Lu" to get her through the rape and breakup. She will probably always distrust men. Of course it's all relative. This is what I perceived happened. I encourage you to watch it again if you don't believe me. I loved this movie. The acting, cinematography and music made it a really beautiful film that made me really think.

Boring, cheap, done to death premise
Leofwine_draca9 January 2017
GIRLS AGAINST BOYS is another cheap revenge picture with a battle-of-the-sexes slant. It feels very much like a cheap I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE remake and even features an actor or two who appeared in one of those films, I can't remember which. This one seems to have even less plot than usual and is merely a string of set-pieces of the main two characters going around and butchering unsuspecting blokes, some of them deserving, some of them not.

I find films like this one almost entirely devoid of merit. The cheap digital look of the production is almost anti-cinematic and an example of everything I DON'T want to see in a film. The acting is generally weak and exaggerated and the violence brief and not very shocking. The subject matter is distasteful but the approach is so lame that none of it is possible to take seriously.

Disgusting sorry excuse of a film
silmarieni20 February 2013
I rated this movie 1 because it's not possible to rate it zero or less.

Basically a half a page of screen writing seems to satisfy the director in justifying a badly played idiotic gore fest which is frankly borderline pervert because it hides behind would-be feminism and pseudo female abuse to try to justify showing atrocious violence. Let's just flash a policeman her private parts behind transparent underwear then kill him in a painful humiliating way top punish him for a short concupiscent glance.

As a tasteless comedy striving to be funny it could perhaps have satisfied a few blood hungry hormonally supercharged drunken teenagers.

As it is I bet it will disgust even violent film lovers who will see right through it, e.g. just an excuse to film inhuman tortures, dismemberment, exploding organs

Did I mention that the acting, filming, (lighting?), costume or music did nothing to save the movie? Frankly a direct-to-dustbin would have been the correct distribution.

Boring.
allenelswick197926 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is just plain boring. Filled with wooden characters that do not come across as humans. The film is poorly written, and lacks in the violence and gore department. This movie is not good, avoid it. If you really wanna know what happens, read below.

The first third of the movie is following a love lorn college girl that has just been dumped by her older married boyfriend. To get her mind off of her recent change in facebook status she goes out with a co-worker to a few bars. The two girls venture to a nearby loft with three hipsters. Our broken heart girl decides to head home, and is accompanied by one of the three hipsters. After the hipster's advances are rejected, he rapes the broken heart girl. This rape takes place in the hallway near the front door of her apartment. I guess her neighbors are deep sleepers, as she cried and screamed several times. The next day she tries to call her mother at work but is unable to reach her. So she decides to go to the home of the man who dumped her. He tells her she can't just show up and takes her home. Then he tries to rape her, breaking her coffee table. So she calls the co-worker and they go to the police. The police do not take her report very seriously. So the co-worker lures a cop to a hotel room. She blindfolds him, handcuffs him to the bed and goes Phil Spector on him with own gun. Since the police are unable to help, the girls head over to the hipsters loft to find the rapist hipster. They kill hipster 2 & 3 using the cop's gun. They confront the hipster rapist, cut off his feet, and shoot him in the head. They then kidnap the ex-boyfriend take him out to the woods, broken heart girl says he doesn't deserve to die but co-worker shoots him as he flees. Broken heart girl tries to move, starts hanging out with a dude from school and discovers co-worker girl has become a bit stalky. Co-worker girl flips out, kills dude with a sword. Broken heart girl finds his body, heads home to find co-worker girl naked in her apartment and the sword on display. Broken heart girl kills co- worker girl with the sword. Then we get a look back at the places where they killed hipsters, the rapist, and the ex-boyfriend followed by broken heart girl getting ready to go work. The film ends with broken heart girl becoming the co-worker friend of a new broken heart girl.

Worth a Watch

Warning: Spoilers
Seems like most of the men on here didn't understand the movie at all. If you weren't so busy foolishly whining about feminism, perhaps you would have understood that the majority of the film is simply a revenge fantasy. Lu is an aspect of Shae's personality that she turns to to help her deal with the break up and the horrific trauma of being raped. Not a single one of your precious men was actually killed. However, Shae was actually violently raped. Somehow, that part didn't seem to bother most of the men on here one bit.

Not for those overly-concerned with political correctness...
euroGary10 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
'Girls Against Boys' was probably added to the 2012 London Film Festival's programme to provide the guilty pleasure element: after first getting dumped by her married boyfriend and then being raped, both within the space of a few hours, a young student teams up with a waitress - who just doesn't like men - to go on a revenge killing spree (methods of murder include sawing off a man's feet, and shooting another man in the anus - ow!) Although the scene where the woman reports the rape at the police station and gets passed from pillar to post is pretty powerful in its portrayal of how the system dehumanizes victims, this film has no pretensions to deep messages - it's just a couple of hot babes in cut-off denims with big guns. It really hits the spot once, but I won't bother seeking it out again.

Not what it appeared to be
cms-771-82159218 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The victim Shae, like most victims, plays out the rage in her mind. She was in a rage, depression, disbelief, shock as evidenced by her flat affect when she was in the police station. Hence no police and the flashbacks to the scenes of the murders that, near the end, all looked like nothing happened. Every one copes this way at some time or another. Her alter ego even kills the good guy at the point she hates all men and realizes that all men are not evil and she reconsiders and kills her rage (roommate).

It was a good movie in this respect. I hope DP gets more and better roles. I actually watched the whole movie. Danielle is very attractive and capable.

Lacks courage for it's convictions
lovecraft23128 February 2013
I find it a bit creepy to be on the internet sometimes. Part of the reason is the ugly undercurrent of misogyny that permeates so many comments sections and user reviews (you know who you are BTW.)They tend to rant about women who don't want to f#@k them or how they believe feminists are ruining everything for men in America. I'm mostly going on and on, but what I'm getting at is that there's some awful human beings on the internet and around the world. So, I must admit that I went into "Girls Against Boys" with a level of interest, as it would be nice to see a horror film from a feminists perspective. What I got instead...was kind of a mess.

Shae (Danielle Panabaker) has undergone a traumatic experience in the form of being raped by a seemingly "nice" guy. To add insult to injury, the guy she's been seeing (Andrew Howard) is married and with kids, and seems to be more interested in nookie than helping her cope. The only person who seems to understand is Lu (Nicole LaLierte), her co-worker, who believes revenge is the only answer. Unfortunately, her idea of revenge involves murder, and when Shae actually does show interest in an actually nice guy, Lu becomes jealous.

I appreciate what director Austin Chick is aiming for here. One could say that there should be more horror films done from a feminist's perspective. While I must commend the performances (Panabaker in particular is good. Girl deserves to be a bigger star IMO), the end result is lacking. There's violence, but there isn't a whole lot of gore here, so fans of that will be disappointed. It also largely feels more like a generic indie movie than it does a horror movie. It clearly wants to be a respectable horror movie, but it doesn't understand how horror works.

Which leads me to my biggest complaint-for all it's good intentions, "Girls Against Boys" seems to lack the courage of it's convictions. It's attempts to comment on gender roles in society feel undercooked, and once the revenge aspect comes to play, it all feels like your basic revenge movie. It clearly wants to say something about these issues in society (and in horror in general), but instead of being a thoughtful commentary or a "Men, Women and Chainsaws" style examination, it all feels "Been here, done that." The fact that Lu ends up becoming obsessed with Shae also feels unnecessary. It's feels exploitative in a "Hey, lesbians!" way, but this is not a movie that needs that. In trying to play it both ways, the film muddles whatever message it intends to have.

If you want to have an intelligent, feminist take on the horror genre-the go watch "Audition", "The Descent" or "Ginger Snaps" instead. Those movies actually make you think about gender roles and equality in the genre. This is just pretending to understand when it doesn't know s#!t.

Please watch the WHOLE film
tankfreak1 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Sadly, (but not surprisingly) it would appear that most people reviewing this movie do not actually understand it, or didn't watch the whole thing.

As others have stated, there's a lot more to it than the standard exploitation revenge flick. But getting the basics out of the way first, it's well acted, the cinematography is nice, the music actually fits the tone of the film, and it manages to set itself apart from other films in the revenge horror genre. Unfortunately people really seem to be missing the latter, so, spoilers ahead...

Lu is simply a representation of some deep and, until now, hidden part of Shae's personality. The way a shy person may need to dig deep within in order to speak up about something or to someone. Not a split personality necessarily, although I can see why people may get that impression, but think of Lu more like the devil and angel on your shoulder. Lu is the strong confident outgoing independent take no s**t girl that Shae sometimes wishes she could be. So not surprisingly, it's when Shae has a string of bad events occur that Lu pops up.

Believing her older boyfriend to be separated from his wife, Shae is told he wants to patch things up with his wife on top of that, then reveals a daughter that he previously kept from Shae. The following day she actually sees him out with his family which hits her even harder. That night at work is when we the audience first meet Lu.

Depressed, Shae decides to step out of her comfort zone and go out clubbing (with Lu), presumably behaving in a manner that is not the norm for her as she tests the waters of being this new more confident and outgoing version of herself. Unfortunately, and through no fault of her own (or Lu's), the night ends up taking an even more tragic turn. Add to that another bad experience with the ex, and Lu reemerges when Shae needs the strength to go to the police station (which I *think* is the last actual real world event up until the end when we pick up on Shae in the bath).

From then on Shae relies on Lu, her inner bad girl, to get her through her current trauma by playing out a revenge fantasy. Fantasy being the operative word. The "duo's" actions throughout the movie are Shae, in a traumatized and depressed state, imagining what she'd like to do to the men who have hurt her. She does take joy in some of the events, while others she feels less comfortable with so Lu takes the lead. Scenes where the two are in opposition of each other are Shae wrestling with her emotions; the timid version of herself wishing she was stronger, but at the same time not wanting to lose herself completely or cutting herself off emotionally. Shae doesn't believe "all men" are the enemy, but the angry, bitter, and traumatized version of her, Lu, clearly does and that scares Shae just as much. The whole point of the movie is that Shae is wrestling with these emotions, imagining both the revenge fantasies that she enjoys, but also the dark and out of control road that could lead her down where she begins to distrust all men and harm the innocent people around her. Ultimately she must find a balance between the old version of herself and the stronger woman she sometimes wants to be in order to deal with her trauma and begin picking up the pieces.

Now, where the translation of all of this may be hazy is that even if the viewer does understand that Lu isn't real, it still may come across as a split personality scenario similar to Fight Club, leaving the viewer to believe that everything did actually happen. However, the film clearly shows the viewer all of the clean "crime scenes" at the end, proving that none of the revenge scenes actually took place. Likely these are all fantasies Shae had while at the police station or once she got home. I suppose that the director could have gone the extra step and given a clean cut between reality and fantasy, but until I started reading through previous reviews here I didn't really think it was necessary.

Taking control...
CastleofGlass198712 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those films where you either get it or you dont , as said the film focuses on a young women called shae who meets a women called Lu and after a horrific rape Lu helps her get her revenge on men in general.Lu takes her on a revenge path killing the rapist and his mates and even her ex lover who left her to be back with his wife and kid, the point in my opinion of this movie is that sometimes we have to find ways to cope with pain that is inflicted on us and its how we deal doesnt always make us feel better or have a sense of justice but sometimes we have thoughts that we may have never felt we were capable of ,this is in the form of Lu who Shae creates as a fantasy to make her strong, we find out that at the end, I Found this film deep and at points disturbing for example the end scene where shae kills Lu , I love Danielle Panabaker in this movie she shows her amazing acting talents in many scenes that are nothing but silence. I would recommend giving this film a watch and having your own take on the meaning and events that take place , Its not the movie you watch over and over but its definelty a film that will stay with you long after. 7/10

Boys and girls it's not worth your time
adi_200214 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After her boyfriend dumps her because he wants to take care of his own family Shae it devastated. While working as a bartender one night after schedule she decides to go along with her friend and colleague Lulu at the disco to have some fun, so it happens that some guys to put eyes on the beautiful rebel girl and after he is a gentleman and accompanies her home he wants at least her phone number or a kiss but she denies his advances and he's not let her go more, he rapes her. The police seems to be useless because they don't have the young man address or first name. So our two deadly looking girl decides to make justice on their own and murder all the boys who harmed Shae.

The movie is about a retaliation of a girl who meets someone at a club and the guy took advantage of her, but if we think more eventually is the girl's fault, she should know better how long it takes until you truly meet someone for real and not after one night besides that she is the one who took the first step. Also the movie is unrealistic focusing on the killing of those humans and the law forces are missing and more even one of them is so easy to fool after a short change of replies.

Right over the heads of most viewers
whymsicals2911 February 2014
It's pretty obvious that even the media critics, who get paid to watch movies and are supposed to have greater insight than the average joe, didn't understand this movie. They were too busy looking for the elements of what ever genre they had already consigned the movie to and when those elements weren't there, instead of maybe wondering what they missed they simply wrote it off as a failed movie. To be fair, maybe you have to see it at least twice to pick up the hints that tell you what the real story is. I won't point them out because that would be too much of a spoiler but, to anyone who reads reviews before they see a movie, don't be sidetracked by those who call it a "revenge flick", or a "slasher flick", whether they liked it or disdained it as an example of those genres, and look for more.

EveryBody Did Something!!!
wandernn1-81-68327416 February 2022
A really simplified version of Thelma and Louise??? A woman is raped after a night out on the town, and her newly made friend / co-worker at the local Coyote Ugly just happens to be a feminist spree killer. So, they take on the world in a sudden spree of vengeance killings!

Shae, the 'victim' here, she figures out that killing a few men doesn't really make her feel any better, and that her new friend LuLu might be a big of a psychopath.

And the end is pretty lame. Not Thelma and Louise after all. 3/10.

Just wow.
tianalorrainee3 April 2013
I was really annoyed with this. The introduction made it out to be such a good film (my sort of thing) but there are so many things wrong with this, I don't know where to start.

Firstly, the club scene was ridiculous, really generic and boring. Not really too sure how putting in a good 5-10 minutes of dancing and atrocious music was appropriate, or a good idea. The fact that the main girl kissed the (I assume) rapist, in the time-frame of 2 minutes of knowing each other, without even knowing his name, is a good message to send to people... Come on!

It was then decided that killing a policeman wouldn't have them tracked down in minutes (I know films aren't supposed to be realistic, but seriously?????).

Not only that, but apparently, the guy who raped the main girl got killed that easily would have done it justice. No. Surely leaving him until the end, or at the very least, brutalized would have been a bit better? The filmmakers also deemed it necessary to kill off the only actual decent guy in the film, without even making it dramatic or dignified. It was way too predictable.

Believe it or not, I really, really want to make a good point about this film; but throughout the time watching it, I can't thinking of anything positive.

There was no where near enough gore as there should have been for my liking, the main lass just seemed to be a doped-up Emma Watson. I really expected a lot better from a film like this. Very disappointed. Better luck next time. (Y)

Unfocused and Unpleasant
lavatch29 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This film was a hodgepodge of styles with touches of dark comedy, horror, and an unfocused message about gender. At two points in the film, a university professor is lecturing about male chauvinism. But even her lectures do not help in providing guidelines for understanding the film's message.

It is possible that most of the action is occurring in the imagination of the protagonist, Shae. At one point towards the end, she rises up out of the bath water as if everything that has previously transpired was in her mind. But it is hopeless to speculate on how much of what we have witnessed is real, including the deeply troubled character Lulu.

Above all, there was far too much violence. Was this a parody of a slasher film? The film's title of "Girls Against Boys" suggests a battle of the sexes was taking place. But the end result was primarily a set of repellent characters--both male and female--stripped of human values.

Move over Thelma and Louise, these girls are ANGRY!
Robert_duder22 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Ever since TV's Shark I've had a guilty little crush on Danielle Panabaker. She was the sole reason I decided to give this a try. I've seen enough low budget schlock lately and didn't really want to see anything else. Well its always fun to be pleasantly surprised. This little indie vengeance flick is well worth the watch. It isn't perfect and has its moments where you really have to suspend belief to follow it. I mean with all the murders why are they not immediately caught? Its not like they hide their identities or clean up after themselves. Even still, thanks to two very disturbing performances as the lead girls, this film holds its own with plenty of tension and horror and a truly disturbing vengeance plot loosely reminiscent of I Spit On Your Grave, or Last House On The Left. There are some genuinely disturbing scenes (Tyler in the DJ booth immediately comes to mind) and the film even sports some very dark comedy but that's for you to decide. At times I felt the pacing was a little off and that it was dragging but not enough to hurt my opinion of an otherwise unique and downright messed up horror thriller.

Because of my little crush on Danielle Panabaker I have seen her in a lot of things. This is without a doubt a far stretch for her and yet she manages to pull it off flawlessly. She plays a disturbed, depressed and messed up young woman and really shows some emotion and some lack of emotion as well but in a way that fits her character. She proved in this film that she has more range as an actor than what she has shown so far. In a twisted and demented performance Nicole LaLiberte gives a wickedly evil performance as LuLu. Just one look in her eyes in this film and you'll feel your skin crawl. It will without a doubt be a understated horror performance that won't soon leave my mind. Supporting cast including Liam Aiken, Michael Stahl-David, and Andrew Howard are all good in their roles. None of them particularly stand out but all fill their parts nicely. I would have cast someone a little younger than Andrew Howard (who according to Panabaker's character says he is 35...he looks 45 and is well into his 40's.) Just a small thing that annoyed me only a little.

Even fans of a good art-house film could go on board with this because there are a few scenes that border on the bizarre and are just so cleverly shot. The film is gory without being obviously so. I usually notice that when a director also writes the film and doesn't have a lot of experience it makes for a very poor campy movie but director and writer Austin Chick made me take notice because this was well done and likely on a very low budget. Only in the beginning did I feel like the film dragged more than it needed to but that only served to help set up the entire concept and the characters. My biggest complaint with the film that really hurt its credibility in my book was the complete lack of any follow up story as to whether or not they were being chased, or tracked down or anything. They kill, they maim, often publicly and yet nothing is ever said about whether they're being chased or even looked for. That really hurt the movie's overall feel and could have cleverly answered I think. Still if you can get past that which I managed to, then you're in for a bizarre horror treat that won't soon be forgotten. 7.5/10

A Breath Of Fresh Air In A Much-Used Storyline.
P3n-E-W1s35 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This little independent movie has a lot going for it. A believable story line with realistic characters and situations, a strong and truthful story that is directed with care.

Danielle Panabaker does a spectacular job of creating a very believable victim of rape, Shae, who, with her new friend and work colleague Lulu, subtly portrayed by Nicole LaLiberte, take fatal action on her attackers.

Yes, this has been done numerous times, the last big budget version being The Brave One, starring Jodie Foster. Though what this story gives you is the more nitty-gritty feel of real life. Shae is an ordinary woman trying to make her way through life, she attends college and works a bar part-time. There's a wonderful scene where she asks a colleague to take over for her and she walks away to catch five minutes as she's having a bad day. Panabaker's walk behind the bar and in front of the bar speaks volumes of Shae's tiredness, dejectedness, and all over weariness of her life at this point. Nicely acted and well directed.

While in the stairway she meets Lulu and they strike up a conversation. When Lulu hears about Shae's day she decides to take her to a nightclub to take her mind off things. At the end of the night, they go back to an apartment shared by a couple of men they met at the club. Shae, worn out, chooses to go home. Tyler, who paired off with Shea offers to be a gentleman and escort her home. However, he doesn't take being rejected at the door to her apartment building and resolves to get what he think he deserves.

What I like about this film is the lack of graphic violence, most of the time the director Austin Chick, who also wrote the story, chooses to cut away. This allows the viewer imagination to take over because we're not stupid we know what's going on, there's no need to depict it.

From here on Lulu takes over and becomes the dominant character in the newly formed duo. She takes Shae to the police to report the crime, though they find them indifferent and unconcerned about the crime or the victim. It's Lulu who decides on the course of action to take and she's the one to start the ball rolling. Shae, still traumatised by the incident wonders around in a fugue most of the time. It's Shae's state of shock which makes this a more plausible tale of revenge.

The resulting conclusion is pretty inevitable.

This is a slow, well thought out psychological thriller, which gives a breath of fresh air to a much-used storyline.

This isn't a pleasant film to watch. You don't really root for the victim to have her revenge, as the story isn't just about Shae's rape and her resolution, but of her relationship with Lulu, who is broken in her own way. This is a film that is made to make you think.

Well worth a watch once, though I don't think I'll ever go back to it, as it will stay with me for quite a while.

This is stupid.
Chic99922 February 2013
When i first heard this movie, heard the title and watch the trailer, it makes me interesting to watch it.

The cast were good. The acting were good.

but the storyline is stupid.

Don't dress too short and don't act like a slut if you wanted to be respected by boys or by people who surrounds you.

Then you will feel bad if you get cheeky by boys or by those people who surrounds you.

When i watch this movie, It kinda shows that all boys were bad and it also kinda shows not to have mercy when boys have done something bad or what we call a sin.

Warning: Spoilers
it seems that nearly EVERYONE missed the point of this movie.

LU was not real. she was Shae's shadow, her through the looking glass other self. there was even a poster there, in the penultimate scene, with the word ALICE, seen through the looking glass.

Shae had worked through her revenge fantasies, and learnt that it did not make her feel better. she had learnt that that the thirst for revenge prevented her forming new relationships and she had defeated her own desires for it.

the final scene showed that Lu was part of Shae explicitly - with Lu smoking in the background ( beyond the wall) as Shae sits on the stairwell.

all that aside, what a great movie. love the acting, the cinematography and the well synced soundtrack. a great great movie

Brilliant

If you are expecting a brainless slasher movie then this isn't it.

The dynamics between the two main characters are a brilliant example of Folie à deux.

It is well written and the acting is superb, but it does take a bit of understanding at a deeper level than a slasher movie. It is more of a psychological tease of your brain, wondering just how the story will turn out.

Well worth a watch if you like something interesting where you are sucked into the story and the lives of the characters.

Good B movie revenge flick if you suspend your beliefs
rjfromtoronto5 December 2022
Right from the start it was a pretty good representation of art imitating life, pretty girls party with guys they meet at a bar and it goes wrong pretty quickly, a few cliches with the straw sucker and the annoying ex (played by the Russian gangster guy from Limitless) doing his best bad guy once again. This movie kinda reminds me of the premise of Promising Young Woman, take advantage of a woman and you may get away with it 1000 times, pick the wrong victim and you're history and you didn't even see it coming and if you're lucky? It's just an Urban myth that keeps you straight and moral in your interactions with people. If you're not? Scissors or swords or maybe a 9mm to the upper body. Worth a watch, it's no I Spit On Your Grave or House at the End of the Street but it's a light and quick flick you will probably enjoy if you like Indie type flicks that suspend reality (ie: no cops, no repercussions, no questions, just blind justice.
