"The Driver Is Red" (2017 release; 15 min.) is an animated short about how the Israeli Shin Bet agent tracked down Ricardo Klement (a/k/a Nazi top figure Adolf Eichmann) in Buenos Aires in 1960. leading to Eichmann's capture (which is where this short concludes). Most of us know the main story lines of how it all played out, but to see it again like this is a powerful reminder of it all.
The style of animation is almost rudimentary, in that we see the drawings being developed with black pencil on white background. Yet for some reason I felt very much engaged and "drawn in" by this animation. It all goes by very quickly, and it feels like no second was wasted.
I recently saw this at the 2019 Jewish & Israeli Film Festival here in Cincinnati, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. I've been attending this for yeas, and more often than not the festival's programming committee does a great job putting together a sale of interesting and engaging films. If you have a chance to see "The Driver In Red', do not miss it!
