Police may have made their first break Wednesday in the disappearance of the 21-year-old Pennsylvania college student who went missing on Thanksgiving Eve. Shane Montgomery was last seen out with his cousin around 1:45 a.m. at Kildare's Irish Pub in Philadelphia on Nov. 26. "Until today, we could not find him on any of the video surveillance," Richard Ross, first deputy police commissioner, tells People. "But we finally found a video that seems to depict him in the area. We are not certain but this is the most positive break we have had so far." He hopes they will be...

What was supposed to be a fun night out on Thanksgiving Eve has become a heartbreak for the family and friends of a Pennsylvania college student. West Chester University senior Shane Montgomery, 21, was out with his cousin at Kildare's Irish Pub in Philadelphia on Nov. 26 and he hasn't been seen or heard from since. "The true mystery begins when he supposedly left the bar around 1:45 a.m.," First Deputy Police Commissioner Richard Ross tells People. "We are confounded because we don't know what happened." No one has used Montgomery's credit cards since around the time he was last seen.

Plans for Disney to produce a new adaptation of Jules Verne's 1869 underwater adventure novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea seem to be back on track, thanks to director David Fincher. The Fight Club director approached the studio's new production head Sean Bailey with interest in making the movie and is currently in negotiations with the studio, as is screenwriter Scott Burns, who has been slated to write the new take on Verne's classic story.
Last year, we learned that director McG had started to develop a new version of the adventure that focused on an origin story for Captain Nemo and that version was fast-tracked with a $150 million budget, but was then axed soon after Richard Ross took over as Disney Chairman in 2009. Ross then went on record to say that the idea of doing a new version of 20,000 Leagues wasn't dead, but that they would proceed in a different...

Isn't is just the way - you wait ages for one sci-fi aquatic adventure reboot, and then two come along at once. Disney and 20th Century Fox are due to battle it out with rival versions of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. There has been talk of a $150m budgeted Disney remake of the 1954 classic for a while now, but when new Disney Chairman Richard Ross came aboard, he scrapped the McG (Terminator Salvation, Charlie's Angels) directed adventure due to fears he would plunge the movie's legacy to new, terrifying depths.

Remake alert! Well, sort of. Fans of the 1954 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea may want to look elsewhere. Why? See, Disney’s new adaptation of the Jules Verne 1869 novel of the same name could be back on, with reports that David Fincher has thrown the project a lifeline. The studio previously had a new $150m budget version of the flick greenlit with McG at the helm, but when Richard Ross took over as Disney Chairman he nixed the project. Apparently he wasn’t thrilled about the direction that McG was taking it in (no...

Now this might just be a bit of shepherding no one saw coming: David Fincher at the helm of Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea remake. McG (Terminator Salvation) may have departed the early iteration of the film, but the studio has not, in fact, canceled the project, as many had perhaps prematurely concluded.
According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog, the studio is in negotiations with Fincher and writer Scott Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum) to develop a new take on the classic Jules Verne tale.
Apparently the project came together after Fincher approached Disney this winter, wanting to work on a big blockbuster movie, somewhat of a departure from the dark, R-rated dramas such as Fight Club and Zodiac for which he's become known in recent years.
Disney had been fast-tracking the $150M Leagues project, which the studio saw as an origin story for Captain Nemo. However, the project...

New Disney chairman Richard Ross put on a dog-and-pony show at the Burbank lot Thursday to introduce himself to a group of key entertainment reporters. This is what a new studio chairman does to deal with media requests for interviews and meetings and to alert Wall Street to a strong line-up in advance of an upcoming Disney earnings call. About 20 reporters attended, including the trades. Ross announced the breaking news that Pixar was ramping up a Monsters Inc. sequel for a November 15 2012 release and that Disney was dating their film Brave for June 15, 2012. Since ex-Disney Channel exec Ross is new to the movie business, and hired a young producer (Tron Legacy's Sean Bailey) to run motion picture production and an advertising ...

Walt Disney Pictures new head, Richard Ross, has been making some pretty abrupt project development changes at the studio recently, including a suspension of both McG's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Robin Williams' comedy Wedding Banned. Now, according to Variety, the latest project that's been halted is a follow-up to 2007's Wild Hogs.
Brad Copeland, who wrote the original film, had already drafted the script for the sequel, and new writers were in the process of being hired to take over. Moreover, discussions had already commenced with the stars of the first film, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, William H. Macy and Tim Allen, but since no monetary contractual obligations had been established, Ross decided to leave well enough alone and kill the project.
No explanation has been offered, surprising, given that the first Wild Hogs earned $250M globally at the box office. Speculation has ensued that it may have...

Disney shrunk Miramax at the beginning of October, getting rid of about 75% of the work force. It wasn't a major studio with thousands of employees, but 75% is pretty much a work stoppage. Hard for 20-odd employees to really run a competitive shop in the movie business these days.
Perhaps that's what Miramax president Daniel Battsek thought, as well. He's leaving the company, which is being shuttled across the country from New York to Burbank.
"With the change in direction at Miramax, we have reached a mutual agreement with Daniel Battsek that he will leave his post as president, effective January 2010," said newly minted Disney chairman Richard Ross in a statement. "During his 18 years of service, he has brought some very prestigious and award-winning films to the studio from Calendar Girls to The Queen to No Country for Old Men. We wish Daniel the very best on his future endeavors."
