Quentin Tarantino is spilling the tea, or rather the frozen margaritas, on his first book, a novelization of his film, “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood.”
On Tuesday, June 1 the filmmaker joined hosts Elric Kane and Brian Saur for an episode of the “Pure Cinema Podcast” to discuss famed directors’ final films and drop new details about the book.
Tarantino describes “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: A Novel,” which will be available in paperback and audio book formats on June 29, as a reimagining of his Academy-Award winning film.
“I’m really happy with it, I’m really proud of it,” he said, “I think if you’re a fan of the movie, I think you will get a kick out of reading the book, and exploring the characters further and deeper, and learning secrets that you didn’t know, and were not in the movie.”

I listen to a podcast called Pure Cinema in which two of my favorite movie buffs, Elric Kane and Brian Saur, deep dive into films of all shapes and sizes. The group introduced me to a great ice breaker when encountering movie fans in the world, the Handshake Five. Basically, you pick five movies that are descriptive of your individual love for cinema, it can be your favorites, but it doesn’t have to. It’s a great way to talk film with new and old friends.
What I’ve discerned from using the Handshake Five method is that every movie is someone’s favorite movie. From the agreed upon classics, which populate everyone’s list, to the much-vilified bad films that start arguments at dinner parties. It’s interesting to discuss why people get attached to certain films; like why one senior citizen held Howard the Duck in such high regard,...

Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt first worked together on the director’s 2009 WWII movie “Inglourious Basterds,” but that film was not what sealed the deal on the duo reuniting for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Tarantino was courting Pitt to play the role of stuntman Cliff Booth and invited the actor over to his home for an initial meeting to discuss the character. It was there that a pretty amazing coincidence occurred that proved Pitt deeply understood the character without any guidance from the legendary filmmaker.
As Tarantino recently explained to Pure Cinema Podcast hosts Elric Kane and Brian Saur, Pitt showed up at his house to discuss Cliff Booth, followed by the two sitting down in his personal screening room to watch Tom Laughlin’s 1971 indie action drama “Billy Jack.” Pitt brought over his personal DVD copy of the movie, which also stars Laughlin in the title role...

“We can have a real ’60s summer here, setting up for it,” said Quentin Tarantino as he settled in for a nearly three-hour conversation about his July programming at his New Beverly Cinema, a survey of the 1960s films that inspired his forthcoming “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” The movie is Tarantino’s love letter to the filmmaking era that made him fall in love with cinema as a kid. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie, and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year to considerable acclaim. “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” opens in theaters on July 26.
“I did that ’60s kinda thing, but now I wanted to get more into the interior of the Hollywood that this movie is discussing,” Tarantino told Pure Cinema Podcast hosts Elric Kane and Brian Saur. Setting up “Hollywood,” he explains that DiCaprio plays an actor named Rick Dalton,...

Exciting news for fans of action! Rod Taylor and Jim Brown in Dark Of The Sun (1968) is available on Blu-ray December 18th from Warner Archives. Ordering information can be found Here
Rod Taylor stars in this action classic, playing the leader of a band of mercenaries attempting to smuggle diamonds and refugees out of Congo via steam train at the height of the ’60s Congo Crisis. Directed by master cinematographer Jack Cardiff, Dark of the Sun shocked contemporary audiences with its stark and unflinching scenes of violent brutality. Jim Brown and Yvette Mimieux join Taylor for the hi-octane, high tension action. Overlooked in its initial run, Dark of the Sun is a justly revered classic of the genre, now seen as a seminal entry in the genre. And now it’s more explosive than ever on this stunning, new HD presentation. And did we mention there is a chainsaw fight scene?...

This Sunday marks one year since the passing of filmmaker Tobe Hooper. Last year we celebrated Hooper's legacy on a very special and solemn episode of our podcast, and one of the co-hosts on that episode was of course film journalist Patrick Bromley. Nobody on the planet has celebrated Hooper's work like Bromley has over the years, especially in the months after the director's unexpected passing, and Bromley's celebration of the influential director will continue in its biggest installment yet this Sunday in a live video tribute featuring some very special guests that will pay their respects to one of the horror genre's unsung heroes.
Beginning at 10:00am Cst on Sunday, August 26th on F This Movie! and running throughout the day, Patrick Bromley's live tribute to Tobe Hooper will feature special guests who worked with Hooper, including filmmaker and Post Mortem podcast host Mick Garris and actress Caroline Williams.

This year was a big one in the horror genre. From podcasts to movies to immersive experiences, 2017 was a banner year for horror across multiple mediums, and Monte Yazzie continues Daily Dead's 2017 reflective features by reflecting on his favorite moments from the past year.
Pure Cinema Podcast: Brian Saur and Elric Kane started Pure Cinema Podcast in early 2017. The two cinephiles, better to call them film historians, compose an educational conversation on anything and everything film with a focus on theme-driven lists. The “Tarantino” and “Life Cycle” episodes are highlights with a combined running time of over 5 hours of content. Saur and Kane are the coolest kids in film school, everyone else is just trying to sit at their table.
Suspiria 4K Blu-ray (Synapse Films): Simply stunning. Synapse released a remarkable, meticulously crafted 4K transfer of Dario Argento’s masterpiece. Every inch of this transfer is beautiful, enriching the...
