Long before she was a movie star, a teenage Nicole Kidman appeared in the early-’80s action comedy “BMX Bandits,” a rowdy Australian kidpic full of bicycle stunts and Scooby-Doo crime-stopping shenanigans. It’s too early to say whether any of the adorable young leads in “Riddle of Fire” will go on to have successful acting careers. Still, it’s amusing to think that two decades into the 21st century, writer-director Weston Razooli has taken inspiration from such questionable classics, along with vintage live-action Disney fare — like “Escape from Witch Mountain” and the Herbie movies, which the studio sold in puffy white VHS cases — for his own retro-spirited debut.
Spun from equal parts imagination and nostalgia, “Riddle of Fire” comes as close as any film since “Spy Kids” or “Kisses” to mirroring the kind of cinematic adventures we made in our heads as kids. Razooli remembers how it feels to...

As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.
Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

Lindsay Lohan is expanding on her relationship with Netflix, with a deal for two more original films in which she’ll star, the streamer announced today.
Lohan’s deal comes following her attachment to Falling for Christmas, a holiday rom-com that is slated to debut on Netflix later this year. In it, she plays a newly engaged, spoiled hotel heiress who gets into a skiing accident, suffers from total amnesia and finds herself in the care of a handsome, blue-collar lodge owner (Chord Overstreet) and his precocious daughter in the days leading up to Christmas.
Netflix previously released the series Sick Note, in which Lohan featured, in concert with Sky One, and is also currently home to Scary Movie V, in which she co-starred.
“We’re so happy with our collaboration with Lindsay to date, and we’re thrilled to continue our partnership with her,” said...

Break out the peanut butter and Oreos: The cast of “The Parent Trap” reunited on Monday for the first time since filming the 1998 movie, for a special on Katie Couric’s Instagram that raised funds for World Central Kitchen.
Director Nancy Meyers, writer Charles Shyer, and actors Dennis Quaid, Lindsay Lohan, Elaine Hendrix, Lisa Ann Walter and Simon Kunz gathered to celebrate and remember the family film which put Lohan on the map. She played a pair of twins, Hallie and Annie, who meet for the first time at camp and realize that their parents had separated them and kept them a secret from each other. They devise a plan to switch parents, with one going to their father Nick Parker (Quaid) and the other to their mother Elizabeth James (Natasha Richardson). Well, I have to tell you that unless you are some kind of a die-hard snob, you will probably find Game Night (2018) far more entertaining than the average board game. Moreover, it is the perfect alternative if you want to persuade your friends to do something different on Saturday night. And if you happen to be a game buff, then this smart crime-thriller-comedy-mystery mash-up is right for you.
In a recent Q&A session on Reddit, the directors of Game Night (who by the way are huge fans of the board games) admitted that they make movies based on their own taste. In other words, they create films that they would love to watch themselves. They like to make the most fun out of this whole filmmaking thing. This is just one of the reasons Game Night turned out to be a huge success in the box-office.

“Wonder Women” is currently basking in the glory of its $100.5 million debut weekend, proving it shouldn’t have taken 75 years for the superhero to make her first standalone trip to the big screen. While critics and audiences continue to embrace Patty Jenkins’ superhero movie, Annapurna Pictures are getting ready to introduce the real origin story of Wonder Woman in the upcoming drama “Professor Marston & The Wonder Women.”

DC Comic’s iconic female superhero Wonder Woman has been generating buzz with the upcoming Gal Gadot-starring film due out next year. Then last week, Greg Rucka, writer of the reborn Wonder Woman comics revealed that the heroine is bisexual. But now, the story of Diana Prince’s creator is getting the spotlight in the upcoming indie drama “Professor Marston & The Wonder Women.”
Per Deadline, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has acquired the worldwide rights from Topple Productions and Boxspring Entertainment. Directed and written by Angela Robinson, the film stars Luke Evans as Dr. William Moulton Marston, a Harvard psychologist and inventor who created Wonder Woman in 1941. Rebecca Hall will portray his wife Elizabeth, also a psychologist and inventor, and Bella Heathcote will play Olive Byrne, a former student of Marston’s and who also shared a polyamorous relationship with the couple.

It looks like Thor: Ragnarok, the third film in the Thor franchise has found its composer. According to TheWrap, the folks over at Marvel have hired Mark Mothersbaugh to take on the job. While not a household name, Mothersbaugh has a great deal of experience in Hollywood, and his score include that of The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street, The Royal Tenenbaums, and of course, Herbie Fully Loaded, among countless other films and creative projects. The composer is also notable as the lead singer, co-founder, and keyboardist for the New Wave band Devo, which remains active today. Thor: Ragnarok marks Mothersbaugh's first Marvel film.
Admittedly, I haven't been completely thrilled by what Marvel has had to offer moviegoers on the musical front. Their Cinematic Universe is a franchise that begs to have several amazing themes throughout, but instead, when all said and done, the only memorable composition from...

Watch: The First 'Monster Trucks' Trailer Is Basically 'Herbie Fully Loaded' with Adorable Creatures
Randomly stumbling across Herbie Fully Loaded on TV the other day, a few things stood out. First, how delightful Lindsay Lohan and Justin Long were as fresh-faced teenagers. Second, just how dang charming the Herbie movies were. There's something about teens and a magical car with a mind of its own that just plain works. That formula is also why everything with Sam and Bumblebee is the best part of the first Transformers movie. Now that the first trailer for Monster Trucks is here, it...

Now that the first trailer for Monster Trucks is here, it looks like Hollywood has found the spiritual successor to the Herbie franchise. It also looks like the title is surprisingly literal. It's about a teen whose old beat-up truck gets infested with a monster. But that's not a bad thing. The monster is super cute and apparently gets a kick...

The star shared her ideas on how a good 'Mean Girls' sequel could be made.
Did you love the classic 2004 teen comedy Mean Girls? Of course you did, you're only human. Well, it turns out that Lindsay Lohan really loved that movie too.
It's not really a big surprise, when you think about it. Mean Girls was the high water mark in her cinematic career (up to this point. Who knows where it will go in the future?). After Mean Girls we got Herbie Fully Loaded, I Know Who Killed Me, The Canyons, and those are actually the highlights.

Box office is one way a film makes its cash: but what are the others?
I know you’ll have noticed this by now, but it’s definitely called show business for a reason. It’s not show show art, show entertainment or even show exhibitionist impulse. Unless movies make money, the money to make movies would dry up pretty quickly. But where does this money come from?
Actually, that’s an easy one. It comes, almost entirely, from you and me and people like us. The real question should be how does this money get from our back pockets and into the coffers of the big movie studios.
Some of the pathways are incredibly obvious, some perhaps a little less so. Let’s take a look at 16 of the ways that movies make money.
1. Ticket sales
I had just started working in a cinema when Jurassic Park was released.

Lindsay Lohan wrecking a car is nothing new, but this time she's doing it on purpose. In an appearance on Fuse's Billy on the Street, she and host Billy Eichner destroy a beige-ish station wagon to express their outrage that How I Met Your Mother is ending its run after a mere nine seasons on March 31st. "It's actually my favorite show," Lohan said in quasi-mock outrage. "I'm really fucking pissed [that it's ending], it's too soon."

It’s not always the actors that are the stars of a film. Sometimes it’s the car. Here’s our list of the 10 most iconic cars in movie history.
Much like in our everyday modern life, cars are a big part of movies. They have created many memorable moments, been a part of many exciting action sequences, and helped to define characters clearly. Cars are much more than just another movie prop. Sometimes they are part of the cast, and others they are the main attraction.
This list commemorates those cars that went above and beyond simple transportation in a film. These are cars that define a particular movie or character. These are cars that, when seen in real life, conjure up images of their movie counterparts. These cars have infiltrated popular culture and become historic icons of both film and motoring.

Jason Bateman will produce and star in the comedy Game Night, about a bunch of couples who get together regularly to play games and one night, something goes awry and they wind up in the middle of a real murder mystery. The writer of the script is Mark Perez, who wrote Disney's The Country Bears and Herbie Fully Loaded. Game Night is said to be in the same vein as Bateman's Horrible Bosses including a big ensemble cast. Bateman stars in Identity Thief, which opens in theaters tomorrow.

Boy, if there was ever a story titled, .The Most Successful Child Star Ever.... it would probably be about Ron Howard. But somewhere in there, Jason Bateman would be mentioned. And the Arrested Development workhorse has added yet another film to his upcoming roster, and it.s an intriguing one. Deadline reports Bateman will star in Game Night, an ensemble comedy filled with couples whose regular game night turns into a murder mystery, and shit gets real. The film was picked up by New Line Cinema as a pitch from screenwriter Mark Perez, the man who graced audiences with The Country Bears, Herbie Fully Loaded and Accepted. He.s also recently sold two scripts to Sony and Happy Madison, both of which are currently in development. None of those are ensemble comedies, and can barely be considered comedies in the first place, but his script will at least be in...

On the surface, the Baywatch movie from Paramount sounded like the usual freezer burnt idea to re-package a piece of recent pop culture with the intent to use name recognition to sell a project that no one in particular asked for in the first place. Since it’s the new operating mode for major studios, this didn’t seem like such a big deal. If it caused a groan, it was forgotten about a few moments later. Then again, the presence of Rescue Me creator Peter Tolan as screenwriter was a curiosity. He’d proven his character sensibilities and ear for dark resonant comedy, so what was he doing with the buoy-stuffed red swimsuits? If that question was enough to keep a bit of faith, the announcement via Vulture that Reno 911! co-creator and Night at the Museum co-writer Robert Ben Garant will direct should be enough to make the project full-on interesting. There is going to be a Baywatch movie. This is a fact and you should not avoid it. The good news is Paramount realizes it needs to be a comedy and not a so serious it’s awful drama like the TV show. The other good news? Reno 911 co-creator Robert Ben Garant is probably going to direct.
Vulture is reporting Paramount has hired Garant to direct the film from Peter Tolan’s (Rescue Me) script. Now, Garant is also a writer, so I imagine he’ll take a pass at the script and add some of his own unique humor. Tolan has said his script similar in tone to Stripes. Ivan Rietman, who just happens to have directed Stripes, is on as producer.
What do you think of this news? I can honestly say I’ve never seen an episode of Baywatch, so I really couldn’t care less about a movie based on it.

Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are in final negotiations to write The Machine, the Vin Diesel-starring action comedy that is also the first new production for the restructured MGM. Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant wrote the original script, about a human-like machine created in secrecy by the Pentagon to be the world’s first ultimate weapon. After the machine was decommissioned and buried it is discovered, reactivated and befriended by a kid 20 years later. When the government learns that it’s back in operation, the machine’s mission becomes to protect the family harboring him. Diesel, who also is producing via his One Race Films, was set to star when the project was unveiled in May 2011. The hope is to create a franchise. Gough and Millar co-wrote the screenplays for I Am Number Four, The Mummy: Tomb Of The Emperor, Herbie Fully Loaded and Shanghai Noon on the film side.

Last week, we took a look at the relative dearth of leading men in Hollywood: why Tom Cruise, Will Smith, et al. remain at the top of the tree and why so few serious competitors have emerged since. But one of the most exciting things about our job is getting to watch the new names that emerge, breakouts who have the potential to join the A-listers, or at the very least, deliver a host of hugely exciting performances for decades to come.
So we've decided to kick off our On The Rise selection for 2012 by looking at some of the actors who we're tipping for big things in the next few years. Last time we made these kinds of picks and predictions we did pretty well, listing the likes of Joel Edgerton, Edgar Ramirez, Jason Sudeikis, Adam Scott, Jake Johnson and David Oyelowo who have all gone on to become much-sought-after names,...

Before I Knew Who Killed Me, before Just My Luck, before and then again after Herbie Fully Loaded, we had Lindsay Lohan the singer. It’s been about seven years since the world was graced with a Lindsay Lohan album, but if Ryan Murphy knows what’s good for him, we will get a cover of “Rumors” when LiLo guest stars on Glee at the end of this season. According to TVLine, Lindsay will mostly likely be playing herself as a celebrity judge when the New Directions perform at Nationals; past celebrity judges have included Josh Groban and Olivia Newtown-John. So what we’re hearing is that Lohan could potentially play Lohan singing Lohan? Do you have any idea how long we’ve waited to hear an eight-part harmony version of “Bossy”? Our. Entire. Lives.

As a filmmaker, Angela Robinson has made some real flops – she wrote and directed the 2004 spy girl story D.E.B.S, and helmed the Lindsay Lohan Disney vehicle Herbie Fully Loaded, neither of which made a good impression on audiences or critics. On the small screen, however, she’s a highly successful powerhouse, being the co-executive producer behind the acclaimed HBO series’ True Blood and Hung, in addition to writer and producer of Showtime’s The L Word. Now, after a hiatus from feature films, she’s returning to the big screen with the help of some other notable TV compatriots.
Deadline reports that Robinson sold an untitled supernatural teen thriller to Paramount, a project she will write and produce. She’ll be joined by fellow producers Dawn Parouse (née Olmstead) and Marti Noxon, two people who really know supernatural teen subject matter. Previously, Parouse worked on the Fox time travel drama Tru Calling,...

Using The Hunger Games as hype, Relativity has also unloaded the first ever look at Jennifer Lawrence in the Mark Tonderai-directed House at the End of the Street. The PG-13 horror flick opening September 26 "centers on a teen girl (Lawrence) who moves with her mom to a new town and learns that their home is across the street from a house where a double murder took place. Complications ensue when the teen befriends the massacre's sole surviving son (Max Thieriot). Elisabeth Shue costars as Lawrence's mom." Usually, treasures like diamonds, bank vaults, and other things worth millions of dollars are the subjects sought after in heist movies. Typically, comic books don't fit the bill of the loot of a heist movie — that is unless, it's a comic book that was once owned by Nicolas Cage.
In 2000, several very expensive comic books were stolen from Cage's home, including the very rare Action Comics No. 1, which any comic book geek could tell you is the first ever appearance of Superman (there are only 100 known copies in existence). Cage had purchased the near-mint copy in 1997 for $150,000. Luckily for Cage, the comic book was insured. Fast forward to 2011, Cage's copy of Action Comics No 1. was discovered in an abandoned San Fernando Valley storage locker. Despite Cage's attempt to buy back the copy, the new owner auctioned off the comic book for a record $2.16M in November.

Lindsay Lohan has been enmeshed in controversy for as long as I can remember. Her Playboy spread is no different: the photos showing a naked Lindsay Lohan, 25, posing à la Marilyn Monroe have been leaked online, much to the official consternation of the Playboy top brass. "Because of the interest & the Internet leak," Hugh Hefner tweeted, "we're releasing the Lindsay Lohan issue early." Hefner then added, "Lindsay Lohan was the top search name on the Internet yesterday. Her issue goes on sale late next week. Hot. Hot. Hot." (Hefner surely didn't sound too consternated in his tweets.) Lohan's nude photos, in fact, are quite good-looking. Those writing nasty comments about them are doing so because they're envious: either they wanted Lohan's face and body or the almost $1 million she earned for the shoot. Else, they're just envious of Lohan's fame/notoriety. Or all of the above. By the way, Lohan...

Girls on Film is a weekly column that tackles anything and everything pertaining to women and cinema. It can be found here every Thursday night, and be sure to follow the Girls on Film Twitter Feed for additional femme-con. Another day, another new Lindsay Lohan drama… When Lohan first stepped into the spotlight, she was a charismatic bundle destined for great things. Her red hair, freckled cheeks, and bright blue eyes contrasted the usual Hollywood kid machine, and her talent set her even further apart. She handled the dual roles of The Parent Trap with ease and quickly became a Disney star. Her specialty – the remakes, whether it be classic Hayley Mills comedy, taking on a little Freaky Friday, or dealing with Herbie Fully Loaded. But just as she began to...

D.E.B.S. was actually made twice. First as a short starring Tammy Lynn Michaels, and later as a feature length film with a larger budget and distribution. The latter version came out in 2004 and was just as gay — if not gayer — than the original.
So what happened to the ladies of the feature film D.E.B.S.?
Sara Foster as good girl Amy
D.E.B.S. was Sara's first feature film, and she was its star. Since then, she's had a few minor roles on TV shows and movies (Psych:9, Demoted) but most recently she's appeared in the recurring role of Jen Clark on 90210. She is often photographed watching the matches of her boyfriend, professional German tennis player Tommy Haas.
Jordana Brewster as bad girl Lucy
Jordana went on to star in Anapolis and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning before getting the role of Mia Torreto in Fast & The Furious, which turned into the...

What a difference six years makes when it comes to Lindsay Lohan's willingness to go nude!
In 2005, during an interview while promoting "Herbie Fully Loaded," the actress was asked by Access Hollywood's Billy Bush about the possibility of going nude for a film and Lindsay had strong opinions about baring all for the big screen.
"You'll never see me in a nude scene," the then 19-year-old actress said at the time.

Glen highlights the tracks that tend to get aired just a little too often in modern day movies...
There are quite literally millions of songs available on this planet called Earth, catering to all ages and tastes. But in spite of the vastness of this musical back catalogue, there seems to be a small percentage that crop up time and time again in films, depriving other songs of much deserved royalties.
In an attempt to encourage the movers and shakers of the movie industry (like they actually read this) to spread the love, I thought I’d highlight a few songs that have been over-used in the movies.
Just to clarify, I don’t necessarily hate the songs included (except Who Let The Dogs Out, but that’s not really a song). It’s just that I’ve heard enough of them in the movies, and think they should be...

Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, two of the (lesser talented) guys behind "The State" and "Reno! 9/11" before selling their souls in exchange for unearned cash (and lots of it) are releasing a book today called Writing Movies for Fun and Profit: How We Made a Billion Dollars at the Box Office and You Can, Too! It's a semi-serious self-help book for screenwriters, not about how to make a good film, but about how to make a commercially successful one. In other words, how to cheat the system.
Clearly, Lennon and Garant have a lot of experience in making incredibly shitty but very popular films that appeal to moviegoers barely smart enough to count out their ticket money. Screenwriters Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant have mastered the art of screenwriting enough to generate twelve figures at the box office (through movies like Night at the Museum, Herbie Fully Loaded and The Pacifier) and in their new book Writing Movies For Fun and Profit: How We Made a Billion Dollars at The Box Office and You Can, Too!, the duo gives aspiring Hollywood scribes tips so that they can do the very same. And it all stems from the simple lesson the duo revealed in a recent NPR interview, during which Garant explained that every movie "is exactly the same" using Die Hard, Night at the Museum, Casablanca and The Matrix as examples.

With this Friday’s release of "Fast Five" barreling towards us, MTV Movies Blog is taking the time to look in the rearview at the four films that paved the way. First up, the movie that started it all.
There have been a host of car racing movies that came before "The Fast and the Furious," but its debut in 2001 saw the rise of the sub-genre’s biggest and most popular franchise ever. Described as “gritty and gratifying” by Variety, the Rob Cohen-directed film cemented the popularity of Vin Diesel after his role in "Pitch Black" the previous year and used an ensemble cast composed of young Hollywood’s biggest stars of the time. There were a couple of storylines in this week's box-office numbers. First off, the number one film, Rio, bested expectations to open with $40 million this weekend, the highest grossing opening weekend for an animated feature since Toy Story 3. Rio's box-office tally also helped this week to break the year's slump, the first weekend in quite some time that 2011 outperformed the comparable week in 2010.
Not a lot of thanks is owed to Scream 4 for that, however, as the Wes Craven sequel actually underperformed at the box office this weekend, whimpering beneath the $20 million mark with $19.2 million. That's considerable less than the openings for Scream 2 and Scream 3 (around the $32 million range) and far less than what 2009's Nightmare on Elm Street remake managed ($40 million). Even 2008's Prom Night remake managed $20 million, and it was awful, as opposed to Scream 4, which was merely disappointing in the middle (but bookended...
