Love letter to Hayao Miyazaki or complete ripoff?
The heavy influences of several of Hayao Miyazaki's films, most notably 'Spirited Away' and 'Castle in the Sky', are hard to ignore, but homage of ripoff, this film still has a lot going for it, and also deals with some interesting themes, chief among them "grief" and "acceptance".
And while Makoto Shinkai has been called "The New Miyazaki", he's still a ways away from even being able to sniff that rarefied air.
